Sllyrasa signaled to the operator who then attempted to communicate with the shuttle. Hailing frequencies weren’t working and neither was radio. The field seemed to be impeding the signal.

Before the next action could be accomplished the field covering the shuttlebay shimmered brighter as the shuttle inside fired the phasers at it. There was no change otherwise to the field.

GM Dread

A glimmer of hope in the darkness, Avik thought. She observed the ongoing as Sllyrasa signaled to an operator. In the back of her mind, she noted Marsh’s. There were a few ways to explain it based on their technology or other reasons, but she didn’t dwell on that. Suspicion had no place when it came to saving their crew.

Avik was surprised at the shuttle’s reaction, but it didn’t show on her facial features. Did the crew know more about the cause of the interference then them? She didn’t have enough evidence to create an answer as she continued to let Marsh take the lead.

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

Marsh pursed his lips… “A forcefield that they want to shoot down,” Marsh faced the XO. “Computer take over the ship… but that wouldn’t explain the loss of power. That could explain the loss of communication.” He started working through options.

“That force field has to be getting power from somewhere/ He turned to the aliens, Can you do an analysis of the generation. Forcefields generally had axises like the lines of electromagnetic flow around planets. That would show the ‘beginning and end’ of the power projection and then in turn the source of the forcefield… and then establish if it was a ship issues of some secondary force.”

Marsh

Sllyrasa tapped a finger against his lip in thought. “We’ve had our various sensing and scanning abilities focused on your ship since it arrived in our orbit. We’re not detecting anything similar to a planet’s magnetic field. It could be that…” He paused in hesitation for a moment. “Our technology isn’t sufficiently sophisticated enough to detect whatever that shimmering field is.”

GM Dread

“Considering our technology isn’t working right now, we are blessed to have access with yours.” Marsh’s ability to be diplomatic was directly proportional to the level of support he felt he was getting. He tapped his fingers against the side of his face.

There were rare times when Cassidy slipped out of deep analysis mode during a crisis. With her background in science, it was her default. It didn’t mean she couldn’t act when the situation called for it though. And right now all she wanted was to do something. And she couldn’t. Not unless they could get up there themselves to scan the damn thing. Her frustration flared, but she put a damper on it not wanting to affect the XO. Still, it was likely apparent in the way she tapped her right fingers on her thigh.

OOC: Matt: I vaguely recall they have ships, yes? I just need a refresher as that early scene when they entered the system was long enough ago that I can’t remember details.

Abrams, COS

“Let’s execute the morse code signal.” He nodded towards the screen as if that would make what he said come true. “If we can see the shuttle and the phaser fire, they should be able to see the light being projected inside.” That wasn’t 100% true there were polarized and one way screens.

Marsh

Avik glanced to the CoS, appreciating her attempts to ease the emotional stress. Her attention returned to the other two as she began to add in her own questions.

“I don’t recall any scans indicating a field when we arrived. Could it be causing or connected to the strange power outage on the ship?” She had no evidence to prove it, but the timing was oddly convenient in this situation. Her memory couldn’t think of single case of a field causing this to happen on a ship. However, from her experience there were logs of stranger things on Starfleet missions.

OOC: Will note, as far as I remember there was no indications of a field. GM can correct me if I’m wrong.
-Janice B.

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

Marsh shook his head, “We didn’t scan anything like that. It could be anything. We’re not even picking it up now, but it clearly some sort of inversion field that is bottling up EM transmissions on a scale that is near 100%. That’s why the ship seems dead from the outside.”

OOC: So first to answer Linds, there are two unmanned ships in orbit. Both were tasked to be tug type ships for the warp vessel. One of which is current observing the shuttlebay. To answer Janice, no field was indicated until the Europa’s power seemed to fail. The only time it became apparent was when the shuttlebay doors opened. It can’t be seen on the rest of the ship but the ship is encapsulated in it. Though I’m describing it as a field, I’m referring more to something like a forcefield or energy that coats the hull.

Sllyrasa nodded at Marsh’s consolation and suggestion to use light communication protocol. He signaled for the operator to commence the lights and waited to see what happened next.

GM Dread

Sienna watched without much to say though she very much appreciated Marsh sounding as grateful as he is about the resources being provided to them in this state of emergency.

Nox, CNS

A light on the shuttle flashed a pattern to the craft outside of the shuttlebay. The pattern was thus:

.... .. … / .. … / . ..- .-. — .–. .- .-.-.- / .–. — .– . .-. / -.. .-. .- .. -. . -.. / -… -.– / ..-. .. . .-.. -.. / … ..- .-. .-. — ..- -. -.. .. -. –. / … .... .. .–. .-.-.- / -.-. .- -. / -.– — ..- / .-.. — -.-. .- - . / … — ..- .-. -.-. . / .- -. -.. / -.. .. … .-. ..- .–. - ..–..

Sllyrasa murmured to himself. “Interesting. A twenty six lettered alphabet with various punctuation to denote stops and queries.”

OOC: I’ve made a joint thread for the communication to be continued between both parties without my needing to telephone each message to the other. You can find it here: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/europa/posts/175004/

GM Dread

Marsh held up his tricorder and had it do the translation. “This is Europa. Power drained by field surrounding ship. Can you locate source and disrupt?” He looked at the XO.

“I’m going to send, We haven’t detected a field beyond that which you have revealed from your weapon fire. The citizens of the planet have been helpful but we don’t seem to have the sensitivity necessary down here to see it.”

Marsh

Avik nodded her acceptance of Marsh’s message.

“Now that we got a primal set up for communications and know that they are alive, we still need to power them up. Unfortunately, that force field will siphon the energy we deliver. Even with a continual flow, I am not sure it will last long enough for a proper scan.”

Her attention turned to Sllyrasa. She wondered if the earlier physic brush had something to do with the field, especially since it happened after arrival. If so, it might be worth investigating or using it to track back to the source.

“Does anyone on this planet have advanced mental capabilities? Most Vulcan, for example, have touch telepathy which with physical contact we can sense other beings’ thoughts or intentions.”

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

“Power projection works on the inverse square law, the further the projecting is from the projector the square of the power has to be used. So that is at least a starship worth of power dampening. That means a point blank range a star-ship power source has to be used… the greater the distance the power increase exponentially. It is impossible to hide that power at a long range so the source has to be close… very close.

Marsh

=^=Tug boat: unmanned. Away Team: All here and stable. Location: Planet’s command center for space operations, within walking distance of the plaza.=^=

Another message followed shortly after.

=^=Can’t find the source of the field surrounding the ship. Natives have a way to send power to the ship.=^=

-Avik, XO

“Im not so sure about that. If the field can control phasers, they probably can limit any kind of power transfer. Not to mention, it now appears that there is power inside the ship. So a transfer may not be necessary.

Marsh

Okay the last time I bumped a thread I missed something I was supposed to respond to… (fingers crossed)

((OOC: no, just our gM left so I dont know what we are going to do about this?)
