Stephen was also immediately struck by the selfishness of Zorell’s statement. However, after a moment’s contemplation, he began to understand her reasoning. He did not feel it was his place to speak up in her defense at that moment, but Vora’s reasons were, in Stous’s opinion, what Starfleet was all about serving. The question of safety was still paramount, of course, but that did not discount the importance of the mission and of its message.

Cass nodded and smiled warmly at Vora. She knew how hard it was for her friend to stand up there and talk about any of this, but to do so with such confidence was a testament to Vora’s growth. “I’ve bene giving it some thought and I agree with Vora that if we go too much on the defensive, we’re just fuelling Cotrallo’s belief that they still have a hold over Vora. While there are some… factors that we may or may not need to discuss here, I think at a minimum we can reduce some of the risk by ensuring a buddy system by any crew on the surface. There might be times when that isn’t appropriate, and we can look at those separately, but on the whole I think making sure no one is raoming about on their own would in the very least be pudent.”

“Additionally, given that members of Cortallo rather blatantly abducted Vora before, she and I have discussed another precaution and she’s agreed to have a subdermal transponder. If there’s an issue we can beam her and anyone with her out.” Cass folded her hands on the table. “I don’t want us getting jumpy though. Cortallo has had many years to try and instigate further contact since… previous events involving the Europa and the main actor in that situation is no longer a concern. The evidence suggests that there is a likelihood that they will leave her, and by extension us, alone.”

Abrams, COS

“Yeah, I think he got the point,” the Captain piped up. It was a very flippant way to refer to Roquan’s death during the attempt to kidnap Vora. It was a traumatic event for her, given that she was the one who ended up stabbing him with his own knife when the two of them were beamed to Europa’s brig. After a chase out of Black Rock, which involved tractoring that ship before it went to warp. He was actually rather proud of how well the entire boarding operation went, considering it was thrown together in a hurry and well executed. And he didn’t let his feelings get in the way, even though Vora had been in mortal danger the entire time.

Probably shouldn’t end on that note, he thought. Maybe I can lighten the mood slightly…

“Frankly, I’m more worried about getting our pockets picked than anything else. Though that’s actually worked out pretty well for Starfleet as a recruiting method. You were going to say something about the moons?”

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Vora couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m sure Captain Amhurst might agree with you, but he still grumbles about it.”

The joke allowed her to relax a little and she turned at the waist and tapped a key, zooming out slightly to show the two moons. “Adra & Kiel are our two moons, though both are fairly small. Adra has some deposits of dilithium and between it and some on Beta Zorcal Two, it’s how we were able to develop a similar warp drive system without influence from others. Mining occurs there and as such there is regular traffic which the Tenraith Defence Forces keeps tabs on. They have some set places for geosynchronous orbit with Kebbran that are calculated to avoid interference with the moon transits. Kiel orbits on the inner track and Adra’s is tilted, so they don’t ever collide even though they pass fairly close. They orbit in a roughly equatorial line to Tenra so it’s easy enough to set a ship’s orbit on a track outside of that.”

Stous opened his PADD, running some calculations. “Will the moons result in any interference with transporters or response systems?”

~ Stephen Stous - XO

Vora shook her head slowly. “Not anymore than any other planet. We’ll still be in a geosynchronous orbit with Kebbran. Now, if you’re a wanting to be on the other side of the planet, Tenra doesn’t have transporters. So if you’re with the locals, you’ll be using shuttles anyway. Communications should operate as usual, with the usual restrictions. I will say that if anyone is in the subterranean areas, there are comm relays set up, but I wouldn’t rely completely on them. But more than any of that I don’t know. That was the basic information I came across.”

“We’ll make sure we test all the connections before people go down. Whoever the Starfleet crews liaise with can likely offer guidance as well,” Abrams said.

Abrams, COS

Mathys had remained quiet. His folded fingers pressed tightly to his lips while he digested the information. However, a subtle hardness surfaced into his eyes. He didn’t like the idea of the Cortallo. Vora’s retelling of their reputation reminded him of pirates. His pursed lips released a breath, soothing the conflict raging in his head. The overwhelming emotions began to quiet down. He hoped she was right, but his instinct didn’t agree. One thing about groups that maintain control, they were ruthless when it came to keeping it. All it took was one person to rise before others began to fight.

“I would suggest a TTE communication device as an emergency back up, but I’m not sure it’s allowed. Especially with the restrictions mentioned earlier. I will admit, the flash bombs in my office are looking more tempting, the more I learn.” His tone was lighter with the last sentence, indicating a slight joke.

-CE, Mathys Ducote

“Sorry, I think I missed something,” the Captain said. “What exactly are the restrictions? We’re visiting a warp capable planet, right? Do they have some sort of local law that’s going to be a problem?”

– Johann Dvorak, CO
