She thought about it for a bit. “I would have to say the dessert at the end of my parent’s 25th anniversary. It was a small round cake shaped like a hockey puck. When you cut into it, a somewhat molten core of sweet caramel came out of the middle, oozing out over the plate. It melted the architectural white chocolate slivers into an amazing river of warmth that you could dip the cake into to eat. I think I ate three that night and could have gladly eaten more if my mother had not given me such a disapproving look.” She laughed softly and took another bite.

Nox, CNS

Mathys took a moment to consider the dish’s name.

“Sounds like a type of molten lava cake. Maybe I can find the recipe and we can replicate it here. It sounds like a fun challenge to add to my growing skills. Though, mama said my baking skills needed work.”

Once Nox finished with her first bowl, he held out his hand.

“Want another bowl? I’m about to get myself seconds.”

She grinned and handed him her empty bowl. It had been good and she had been thorough in emptying the bowl. It was obvious she had enjoyed it. “Half please. It was quite a lot but so good I cannot resist more. Was your mother the baker of the family?”

Nox, CNS
“Baking was definitely her domain.” Mathys took the bowl and moved to the pot. He lowered his and began to fill hers up half way while still talking.

“She knew so many tricks that she could whip up fluffy cookies in no time. Often told me that baking took a little extra special something.” An amused smirk crossed his lips as he turned to fill his up.

“Pa loved the stove top. Joked about how she tended to the bottom and he got the top. Made her roll her eyes before smacking his shoulder.” He passed over Nox’s proportion and settled back into his chair.

“I got enough family stories that it would take days to tell you about all of them.”

She couldnt help but feel the love he had for his family. It made her heart warm and then after a moment, it began to sting. She had missed out on over 5 years with her family. What was Johann in her universe like now? She could only imagine what her disappearance had done to him and her parents. “Family is a precious thing. You seem to hold on to those memories with love and a smile. I envy you a bit to be honest.”

Nox, CNS

Mathys’ head tilted slightly, noting the tone of the CNS. Deep down, he knew he was lucky to have such a wonderful childhood. However…

The man sighed, with a fainter smile than before.

“Yes, I was lucky to have a family that loved me, from my parents to my three sisters. Sadly, my son never got that. In fact, I’ve barely gotten to raise him.”

A bitter chuckle exited from Mathys’ breath.

“Funny how life goes some times.” He began to pick up his bowl, his appetite diminished by the topic.

“I some times wondered what might’ve happened if I knew Paige was only using me for security rather than love me. Would we still had Hayden? Would my son have the happy life I envisioned when he was born? What could’ve been vs what happened. Drives me crazy some times.”

-CE, Mathys Ducote

OF course Sienna had read the file on how the divorce had gone and subsequent years. She could imagine how agonizing it must have been to lose custody through no fault of his own to a woman who had committed adultery. It was terribly unfair, especially since the topic had not been revisited to his satisfaction since evidence exonerated him.

“And I could drive myself crazy wondering what would have happened if I had not been transported to this universe, away from my husband, friends, and family. Would we have had children by now? What would either of us be like had we not experienced the trauma of our separation? Would the Siennadye from this universe now be a Captain somewhere?” She sighed. “This is certainly not the way I would have thought this conversation would go, but here we are. I am a strong believer in organic conversation flows.”

“I guess I would ask how you like your life now?”

Nox, CNS

Mathys’ head cocked in confusion, but let it flow past. If Nox wanted to explain farther than she would. Moving on from the odd wording, a light heartness entered his tone.

“Organic flow is some times the best. It reaches issues you never knew existed and can make you feel better. At least, according to my mother’s motto.” He turned to face her while continuing.

“As for your question, there’s parts I wish were better and some I’m content with. That’s nothing unusual with most folks. Right now, I think I’ve done the best I can to make it acceptable.”

-CE, Mathys Ducote

OOC: Small bump, I think we can likely bring this to a wrap in the next reply or two. Then we can likely plan another thread if you’re done? I like the chem of these two.
