The man nodded then followed Holway, letting her lead him away. He didn’t resist while he hopped onto the bed still cradling his arm close.

“Please tell me she’s alright,” His eyes held a distinctive pleading and anxiety within them.

-Janice B.

OOC: I’m going to assume she’s okay since you didn’t say differently. If this is wrong—you can delete it.

IC:
Lake got the injured man settled, gave him something for pain and then began running scans on his arm. She was gentle and professional. “The woman you brought in will be coming out of surgery in a minute or two. We’re going to get her set up in a more private area for now, but she’s fine. We were able to remove several pieces of shrapnel from the rib area and heal the damage they caused.” She smiled at him. “So, let me take care of your arm and anything else I find and then we’ll let you look in on her. Okay?”

—Holway, DR

OOC: You assumed correctly. If there was additional complications that your character would’ve seen, I would’ve mentioned it.

Now to your current patient- The lower arm has several hairline fractures, mostly centered on the ulna with the radius suffering minor impact. The muscles around the lower part of the arm has suffered some heavily impact damage from blunt force trauma indicating that something heavy had landed on top or pinned his lower arm at some point. The annular ligament (tendon wrapped about the wrist) has suffered some heavy tearing which could affect his wrist movement later on if not treated and rested.

IC: “Thank the fates,” the man said using an obscure reference to some higher force in the galaxy.

His worry promptly faded, but his face was still covered in slight wrinkles and showed his age better up close. He appeared to be in his early forties. As the painkillers kicked in, he found himself relieved at being freed from the pain. His lips curled into a small, grateful smile at Lake.

“Thank you, I was afraid for her. I can’t lose another. I couldn’t save her sister,” He mumbled as he allowed the woman to scan his injury, “I’m grateful that this whole ordeal…”

He strangely paused, as if catching his words then noticed how he might’ve looked. Quickly he finished his thought, “… will be over soon. I hope.”

–Janice B.

Lake went over the scans, giving the pain killer a few minutes to start working. “Was your arm crushed? Because there is significant damage that’s going to take more than a few minutes to heal. You’ll also have to wear a brace for a few days to ensure that the work I do isn’t undone by a careless or surprised movement.” Once sickbay treated certain injuries, some patients felt so much better that they assumed their normal routines and caused further damage that required a return trip to medical. She didn’t want that to happen to this man. (Sorry, forgot his name :()

“Why don’t you just get comfortable and I’ll start treating the damage. Once I see how its going, we can reassess. Okay?” She raised the head of the biobed some and then encouraged him to lay down. “Is there anything about your medical history that I should know before treatment?”

—Holway, DR

OOC: Don’t recall if he ever gave his name because I don’t think anyone asked about it. :P

IC: He nodded in agreement to her observation, “Yeah, I’m allergic to peanuts. I was also treated for a hole in my lung some time back. It was a birth defect, but it hasn’t really given me any serious issues.”

He inhaled then continued to explain, “Yes it was crushed by a large structural beam. It fell down across the corridor when the hull ruptured and sealed temporary. I was lucky only my arm was caught underneath. My daughter was helping me when another explosion happened and she was caught by the metal in her side. She was the one that you were treating.”

–Janice B.

Well, his insistence that the woman be treated before him made more sense now. His daughter! “Ahhhh, okay, she’s your daughter. Were you two the only survivors?” As Lake questioned him, she began another medical train of thought in her head about the danger of a peanut allergy and just how to treat the crushed limb.

“No, we weren’t. We rushed down the corridors toward the bridge. Doors started to seal off the damaged sections,” a hint of anger rose in his words as he continued, “We were lucky enough to make it through, but others weren’t. They were sucked through into space or burned to death.”

“How about a names? Yours and your daughters, so I’ll be able to chart your treatment.”

“Her name is Cammy Wescott, she changed after she got married. I’m Darron, Darron Laux,” He replied, feeling sick to his stomach. Both side effects of trauma and the damage to his body.

Lake reached beneath the bed and pulled out and additional six inch padded ledge that folded up in order to make more room for the injured arm. She carefully moved the crushed arm onto it and settled it carefully so as not to cause any additional pain. She listened as he spoke, all the while scanning and setting up an osteo regen unit with exact measurements of the crushed bones that needed to be repaired. Once a 3D example had been programmed into the osteo unit, Lake set the support for it over the forearm and it began emanating a soft, red, healing light.

“Try not to move that arm. The unit works on mathematics and has to recalculate every time there is a disparity between what I’ve programmed and how that would align with the bones in your arm.”

Darron nodded, his body attempting to relax. The pain wasn’t present as the medication began to numb him. However, he kept talking while the machine did its work, “How could this have happened to us? It was suppose to be a simple trip and it became a horrible nightmare.”

-Janice B.

OOC: This is the second post I’ve lost tonight because of the stupid internet. I’ll repost tomorrow. sad face

D…

Lake gave him a thoughtful look. “Because of the nature of Starfleet, a lot of us have experienced a significant loss, Mr Laux, so I can identify with you feelings of outrage and despair. As far as answers though, I don’t have any at this time. I’m sure our crew is working on finding out exactly what happened to your ship, so hopefully they’ll be able to explain what caused the accident.”

She placed her hand on top of his, a comforting gesture that came easily with patients and not at all with others. “For right now, why not concentrate on the fact that you and your sister are alright? I’m going to go check on her and I’ll come back and give you an update, okay?” Lake caught the eyes of a nearby medic and motioned them over to the bed.

“The osteo regenerator has its work cut out for it. Mr Laux needs to keep his arm still while it works. Why don’t you stay close in case he wants to talk? I think he’s just now beginning to deal with the shock from the events he’s been through. I’ll be close by if his situation changes.”

NETurret nodded once and took up a position by the bed.
