“Helm, turn 90 degrees to starboard. Increase speed to Warp 8.” The Captain ordered.

He stood up, and walked over to Marsh, standing over his shoulder at the science station.

“Do you… uh… need a few extra hours or something?” The question was asked quietly, and with a hint of some concern.

— Johann Dvorak, CO

Marsh chuckled for a moment tiredly. “No Captain, I needed a few hours less.” That wasn’t exactly an answer, but couple Marsh’s known enjoyment of partying and the fact that he was off duty and not expected back on for 10 more hours, it probably meant he was entertaining himself and likely other members of the crew.

“I’m five by five, Sir. I can handle this.”

Marsh CSO

“Uh… okay…” the Captain said quietly. “Just ask if you need relief. Better that you ask then I tell, you know?”

He walked back over to the center of the Bridge.

Mattie arrived on the bridge as they went to warp. She relieved the Ensign at the engineering station with directions to go to main engineering and make sure that the coupling that had been replaced was holding true. She set up several scans for the ship to make sure that they were functioning at optimum so that if they ran into trouble they could either fight or flee.

Avik watched the exchange between Marsh and Dvorak. The Chief Science Officer’s appearance drew justified concern in her. He barely looked able to function as she considered something. She looked to the CO, recalling Officer Zorell’s skills in Astrometrics, then spoke.

“Doesn’t Officer Zorell have skills in Astrometrics?” She hoped Dvorak might get her subtle hint to summon the woman to the bridge. The XO didn’t want to overstep her authority or make her own concern public to those on the bridge.

“Yes, she does,” he said quietly. He knew what she was hinting at. He also knew that, he’d probably have to explain himself to her later, because he didn’t feel there was enough reason to pull Marsh off the science station that emerged from talking to him. That was actually a fairly extreme step, and there needed to be a significant amount of evidence to support doing it. But that wasn’t something he’d talk about here.

“Let’s just see what we get back first, as the triangulation proceeds,” he said even quieter.

– Johann Dvorak, CO

The data and filtering gained from the triangulation eliminated anything naturally occurring or organic. It wasn’t a warp signature of any known race or likely a warp signature at all. The computer identified it as a repeating signal that was likely encoded. A bearing was firmly nailed down into a 35 degree heading but the distance to it was as yet unknown due to signal scatter.

“Range is being clouded because of wave distortion and scatter… I don’t know what its bouncing off of but we are going to have to close to find something out. We do have a course.” Marsh shrugged.

“Its a signal. Repeating, my guess its a coded communication. It doesn’t match know races or encryption sequences.” He put the audio into his ear piece which he put into his ear, Uhura-ing it. “I’ll put the computer on cypher breaking, but without a language its going to be a long process.”

Marsh cSo

“Helm, alter course to intercept,” the Captain ordered.

“It’ll probably just be easier to see what it is up close,” he commented.

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Mattie continued with her duties as things unfolded, she did her own scans to see if the distortion waves could damage the ship. (OOC: GM can they damage the ship?)
