Vora looked up from her stew in the direction of the stuttering voice. She smiled gently, her maroon eyes holding warmth. “Hi. How can I help?”

Just then, a stocky, older engineer stepped up to the table as well. Two inches shorter, and a good bit more solidly built than the ensign, Franklin had wavy blond hair and blue eyes. He held a tray of food, and smiled. “Afternoon Lieutenant, how are you? This one of our graduates?” His voice was thick with a southern accent, but his tone was kind. Franklin set his tray down, and began to sit across from and one seat down from Zorell. Unlike most of the others present, Franklin’s rank insignia denoted him as an enlisted man, a Noncomm.

Zorell grinned. “That would be my guess, Chief.”

“Have a seat, Junior, we don’t bite.” the man grinned and took a bite of something deep fried.

“Hey… I don’t dare speak for everyone,” she said with a smirk. But gestured to the ensign. “Please, do join us if you like,” the Tenraith said.

The young ensign sat down next to them and tapped on the table with a nervous, yet steady rhythm. “I’m Winston. Winston Greiss. I arrived with the other graduates.” He stared at Franklin and tilted his head into an inquisitive posture. “Excuse me sir, I don’t mean to be rude, but as someone who has never been to the Academy, what do you think of us cadets?” He pointed to Franklin’s rank insignia.

Vora raised her brows slightly. Well this should be fun. She looked over at Franklin with a ‘well?’ sort of expression, immensely curious and amused at how he might respond. Thinking back to her own early days out of the Academy, she knew what it was like to be curious about everything, but she had never been that forward. Ever. then again, her self esteem took years to finaly catch up with her current life path, so there was that.

The older man snorted and laughed. “Jump right in, the water’s fine…” Once he’d enjoyed the joke, Franklin’s drawl went on, not an ounce of offense in his expression. “They didn’t tell you in first year that half your classmates weren’t going on to Command School? Enlisted and Officer Candidates start out at the same place, us low-lifes are in a lot of your early classes. We just stay at the Academy for a shorter time and go into specific disciplines a lot earlier.” The Engineer took a bite and carried on. “We get a year of training at the Academy, then move into specialist training, depending on what that specialization is, that could be anywhere from Earth to Vulcan and back. I did my specialist courses at Utopia Planetia before they moved the Corps of Engineers to McKinley Station.” Here, he grinned at Zorell.

“As for what we think of Cadets, it’s similar to what we think of Officers… Only we like Cadets more.” He winked at the younger man.
