“Well, that’s odd,” the Captain said. “Let’s decode the message, and put it on the screen.”

The computer chewed on decrypting the signal for a bit before spitting out an answer. It was a set of coordinates and it was not at the signal source but nearby. The ship’s current speed of warp 8 would bring them to the coordinates within 35 minutes.

GM Dread

Dvorak looked at the message on the viewscreen. The computer very helpfully had automatically plotted the coordinates on a map of nearby space, along with the Europa’s present course. The spot in question and the signal source both seemed to twinkle next to each other on the map, ominously.

Point… zero six light years, he thought as he worked backwards from the ETA to the distance in his head.

“Alter course to match those coordinates. Maintain current speed.”

– Johann Dvorak, CO

The helmsmen acknowledged the order and changed course. A quick 35 minutes later, the Europa dropped out of warp at the coordinates. The NE at tactical ran a sensor sweep. “Captain! I’m picking up an escape cryo pod. It looks to be damaged and sensors are picking up faint life signs inside. It looks like whoever is inside is not doing well.”

GM Dread

Marsh looked over. The likely orders were simple.

Indeed they were: “Beam it directly to Sickbay. Have someone from security dispatched there as well, just in case,” the Captain said as he got up from his chair.

He looked over at Avik. “Take over here, I’m going to see who our new unexpected guest is. If there’s nothing else in the area of note to investigate, then return us to our original course and speed.”

And with that, he left the Bridge for Sickbay.

– Johann Dvorak, CO

Avik silently stood to the side. She observed both the CO and Marsh, her emotions hidden behind a mask. Though she had concerns, she didn’t voice them.

Once the pod had been beamed onboard, the CO appeared satisfied with the situation. After he turned command over to her, she nodded. She suspected the helmsman heard the order and began to lower the speed. If he didn’t, she would shortly reconfirm the order.

The XO remained upright, giving him a simple answer, “Yes sir.”

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

The ensign at tactical finished the sensors sweep and said to the XO, “I’m not detecting anything else in the area Ma’am. The pod seemed to be the only thing here except for a bunch of floating rocks.”

GM Dread

“I could send a security officer?”

Marsh didn;t much like the Captain heading down there alone despite the fact that it was a Federation escape pod.

Marsh

“Then return to our original course and drop back down to Warp 5.” Avik ordered, relieved it had only been a pod.

She wouldn’t lie, she had felt her anxiety fill her mind, and she forced it down. Unlike what many humans believed, her kin had strong emotions. They could hide their inner conflicts better and see past the emotional influences. Her attention moved toward Marsh when he mentioned sending a security officer. She fought the urge not to blink or tilt her head, shaking the desire off. Her chest expanded then constricted before she replied.

“I heard the CO order someone from security to also meet him there. The CoS will take the proper precautions.” She reassured him, then added.

“Did any more information pop up when you were running scans over the pod?” A sorry attempt at a conversation topic and caution on her part.

–XO, Avik, Lt. Cmdr

The ship resumed its former heading and speed.

GM Dread

“Not much, But since we have the pod, we and scour her with scans.” Marsh was used to long range scans, but the close point blank analyses usually revealed… almost too much information. “I can start with her ejection logs, they are activated on escape, but the try to download the information from the ship before they go, an independent black box as it were.”

Marsh

Mattie was going over the scans from the original position where they got the coordinates she was trying to piece together if there was a bouy or an actual ship that had the coordinates of the pod. It was strange that the pod was just floating in space, where was the ship, how had it come to be where it was . Did it have something to do with the place they were going? Mattie continued monitoring the ships systems to ensure that there were no issues.
