Ensign Trenton was not far behind Abrams, equipped as per normal for being on shift and responding to a potential security risk. Her neutral mask is well in place, but her Betazoid friend would be more aware of her emotional state. Even the usual internal thoughts reflected the state of her emotions, though there were a number of them that worked to keep up the neutral mask. Trenton closed her eyes briefly and started screaming at herself internally, she didn’t have time to deal with this now while there was work to be done. The young Ensign pulled out a PaDD and began taking notes on every detail she could notice from where she was standing by the door. The shape of the pod, any unusual markings, readings from displays, how much impact the presence of the pod had on the floor, the reactions of the two people already present to the pod and how the pod responds to their influence. Any and every detail that will keep her mind present and with the situation at hand.

  • Ensign Ashlyn Trenton
    Security, USS Europa
The unopened, powered down stasis pod appeared to imply no threat.

The Andorian Doctor entered Sickbay at pace, antennae waving, his cane clicking against the deck plates as he moved. “Fayth, what do we have?” He barked, ignoring Cassidy and Ashlyn for the moment. For a man with a limp and a cane, he could move astonishingly quickly. As he waited for Fayth to bring him up to speed, he moved to his desk and equipped himself with his own scanner, which went to his pocket, and punched in a couple of commands to the computer terminal nearby, attempting to get the Europa’s internal sensors to give him information on the Pod as well.

Then, the Doctor moved closer to the pod and began to examine it. He used a sterile cloth to wipe away the condensation on the outside of the small viewport and looked inside the pod, also glancing at the small terminal interface near the window. He took the scanner from his pocket and tried to get readings from the interface. If the pod was operational, they could just open it… Otherwise, they’d have to power up its grid first.

-Zarath, CMO

Looking inside the ‘window’ Zarath would see the face of a Terran male. From the look of his unkempt, matted, dirty and clearly greying hair and beard, his age was in his late forties to early fifties. His eyes were closed, but the left one was swollen. There was considerable bruising around both ocular cavities and the man’s nose had been broken. His lips were cracked, bleeding, and discolored.

While the ships scanners would be able to give him more information, powering up the stasis pod would give more accurate answers.

“I was working in this area when this pod was transported in. No one has informed me of why or what it is. The power grid on this cyro-pod is almost dead so the interface units are powered down. I can’t get a reading on anything inside. I have a power unit standing by to recharge it. I’ve never worked with anything like this so I wanted to wait before I did anything.”
En Fayth, Doctor

Fayth doubled checked her scans. “Dr. Zarath, I’m showing a Terran male, approx mid 40s. The pod is loosing power fast, and it appears he’s been put into a coma. We’ll have to get power to the pod to maintain his stasis.” Fayth had a power pack and began looking at how to connect it. “Dr. Zarath, I’ve never done this. I’ve never worked with a cyro-pod.” She did NOT want to short circuit the thing and kill whoever was inside.

Fayth glanced at Trenton, with a look that said, “so this is what real Star Fleet is like.”
En. Fayth, Doctor

Cassidy drew closer, eyes searching the pod intently, while letting the doctors work. There was definitely a measure of curiosity about their visitor, but she was also on the lookout for early sings that something might go wrong. She was never paranoid, just alert and cautious.

Abrams, COS

The doors to the sickbay parted, and the Captain walked in. His ocular implants darted back and forth, looking at the activity that was taking place around the pod as it seemed everyone was preparing to open it.

“So someone is actually in there?” he asked almost casually.
– Johann Dvorak, CO

“Yes,” Abrams said to Dvorak. “As far as we can tell.”

SNIP

“Most cryo equipment has security latches to ensure that nothing accidentally pops open,” the former scientist said, as she moved around the other side, looking for something obvious that might indicate where the releases were.

“Trenton, provide cover when we open this thing. Let’s not take any unnecessary risks,” Abrams said. Even if the occupant was still alive and still in stasis, there were any number of things that could happen and she was proceeding with an abundance of caution.

Abrams, COS
OOC: The pod is currently powered down. Ens. Fayth is attempting to attached an external power module. Once active, the pod may be able to provide some answers.

Jody

OOC: Fayth is waiting for Zarath to make sure she doesn’t blow the power module before she starts it.

“You guys checked to make sure whoever it is doesn’t have like, a virus or something, right?” the Captain asked awkwardly. He definitely seemed a little out of his depth with that question, a trait he did not usually show… well… ever, actually…
