Now, Clint might have bene one of the most laid back and easy going of the entire science department, but he knew a cagey person when he saw one and people behaving oddly in a departmental space that was not their own certainly was going to draw a lot of attention. Holding his arm out, Marshall blocked the engineer’s path. “Sorry, newbie, not so fast. I might not outrank you but I do have seniority. Why don’cha have a seat and tell me what all the fuss is about and if the answer is satisfactory, then perhaps we won’t have to involve any of the uppers.

Greiss raised a finger to object, but quickly and weakly lowered it, knowing he could do nothing now that this man was certainly onto him. “Okay… Alright…”
He sighed in disappointment of his buffoonery and continued on. “Remember the deep space survey station that we stopped at a few days ago? There was a Bolian there who said he could have parts for the computer core upgrades shipped here if I helped him reconstruct these hunks of centuries old home electronic junk that he calls ‘Ancient Human Technological Relics’.” Winston picked up a cartridge with torn ribbons of tape extending from to openings to demonstrate. I’d replicate replacements, but he refuses to send the shuttle with the parts unless I manually reassemble and correctly repair this god-forsaken copper circuitry.” Winston moved closer to Clint and began to whisper. “Thing is, I can’t just ask for the components of that Micro-Ionized Redistributor over there without proper authorization. Bad news about that is that my Bolian friend I have contact with isn’t exactly… sanctioned

An engineer, tinker, deconstructor, he was not. But Clint could appreciate a sly deal on the side where necessary. He was not above bending the rules on occasion. Hence the cowboy hat. “Hmm,” he said leaning in to look at the odd device. “That does seem to put’cha in a bit of a pickle, now doesn’it?” He held up a finger to interject. “Can we revisit the part where you need to get parts without authorization? What is stopping from getting said authorization. The Chief Engineer doesn’t strike me an an unreasonable woman.”
