“Yeah, no alcohol for her,” he said as he went to the fridge. “And definitely not synthehol either. She’s apparently allergic.” He grabbed the pitcher and moved back to the counter. “She warned me I might have the same problem, that it could be a Tenraith thing.”

“OH my!” She exclaimed at the idea that someone could be allergic to synthehol. She wondered medically what would cause such a phenomenon since she had never heard of it before. “Well, that is a shame. I love a good wine with Italian food. I suppose the strawberry lemonade will have to do and of course water.” The water glasses were tall cylinders and the lemonade classes were stemless wineglasses. She placed a lemon slice on the rim of each lemonade glass and a strawberry next to it. This took a bit of time so she continued their conversation.

“Mom’s okay with others drinking around her. So you can, if you want. She won’t mind,” Jerrin remarked. “Something about it being long enough now that there’s no temptation?”

“Well, they should be here in a few minutes. I suppose we could wrap up our more intimate chat with my suggestion that we do this fairly regularly. Perhaps not cooking, if you would rather not, but I find that I love teaching it and if you are not averse, we could continue to meet every other week? Though, I would like to meet with you in a few days to check on your progress in finding something to occupy your mind a bit more. Does that sound alright to you?”

Siennadye Nox, CNS

Jerrin half shrugged but nodded slowly. “Yeah, that would be fine.”

She looked up at him and nodded as well. “Good. Having a neutral person to talk to can be good for someone in a lot of ways. I can provide some fresh perspective, a listening ear, help with understanding what you are feeling or to help figure out a situation and its effect on you. We can focus on finding out what you really want out of life and how to achieve it. But most of all, I am here to support you and be your advocate. I won’t speak with your mother about the contents of our sessions. I am really glad we will be working together.”

She finished the flourishes and smiled. “Alright Jerrin. If you could remove the lasagna from the oven. It should be ready now. It should rest on the counter until after we have finished our salad course.”

Nox, CNS

Grabbing the holders… glove… things, Jerrin opened up the oven door and immediately his face was awash with steam and heat. He stepped back a bit with more than a little surprise and let it clear before he reached in and pulled out the heavy (and hot!) glass pan. “It smells good!” he said with a grin as he brought it to rest on the counter.
