Valleea took her time as she created a salad in her bowl, opting for some of the eggs but avoided the reddish things she was less certain about. “Well, it’s a bit of story about how I came to the decision and person to do so, but…” She stopped filling her bowl and looked up at Ryley, feeling her body flood with tension. “I hired someone to look for Daharren.” It was such a simple thing to do, but she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. The decision should have brought relief at a path forward but it was opening up far more questions than she had had before.
Ensign Valleea, Doctor
Riley wasn’t sure how to respond. Thankfully he’d managed a bite of food as Valleea spoke and he used the time he was chewing to think through her news.
“You’ve taken action. That’s good,” and he meant it. “Has it born any fruit?”
Dekker, CNS
“Not yet,” the Kriosian said. “I paid a man that Lieutenant Thor knows a great deal of money to go digging, but I’m well aware my search may turn up nothing,” she said, her face impassive despite the tightness she felt in her stomach.
Setting her fork down, she gazed at Dekker. “Though I suppose regardless of the outcome as far as Daharren is concerned, I did make a friend,” Valleea said, actually smiling a little. “He, Dagen, came across me in the jefferies tubes where I was”-she flushed with some embarrassment-“humming and playing a card game we do on Krios. We got to talking and I played the game a little with him. We ended up making a deal. I would search for Daharren and he would do something personal he was avoiding too. Then we’re going to let each other know it it goes. I’m still not sure how all that happened, but here we are.” Oh there were so many emotions all this brought up that she could feel her heart rate start to rise.
