“Hey Ben, don’t be a loner, come on over to the table.” she said. After all it was an open invitation program and she had wanted to get to know the now-famous Ensign… Lt. jg. better for a while. Apparently he was also a good cook and cocktail mixer.

“I like the outfit the program has given me. Is it random?” she asked Chan.

  • NIniane Fahr, sci

Chan nodded “Yep. I programmed a randomization protocol into the program. It was supposed to just replicate armed forces uniforms, but i guess i must have programmed it a bit to well and it picks civilian clothing as well now. ” she said a touch of pride in her voice.

“I wanted this program to be available to anyone. However i made sure i was the only one able to make changes. This program took a long time to create” she added after short pause.

Riley was glad to see Ben join them. He hadn’t had a chance to congratulate the man in person on his promotion and he was keenly curious to hear more about his holodeck “date” with Tigress. For now he just flashed the new Lieutenant a smile of greeting and pulled out a chair.

Dekker, CNS

Chan watched Park to see if he would join them or not. After all the more the merrier.

Lt Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

It didn’t take long for Ben to work up the courage to join the others. He walked over to where the others were and nodded to everyone.

Lt. (j.g.) Park, BO Tactical/Security

Chan half smiled at him “Glad you could join us Lieutenant. so what do you think of the program?” she asked trying to start a conversation.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

While waiting for Ben’s reply, Niniane asked “Do you go here usually alone? Isn’t that a bit… well, lonely?”

  • Niniane Fahr, sci

Chan shook her head “No me and my husb…” Chan paused for a moment and a noticeable change in her demeanor happened, her antenna drooped sadly and she starred for a second into her glass “Me and my husband used to come here all the time, it was our romantic spot. I’m a widow now, a sub department head and a single mum. so I don;t have much time to myself so whenever i get the chance i come here for a little peace and quiet, to take a break.” she said simply. No one on the crew knew that Chan was now a widow many thought that her husband had just left her. the only people who knew the truth where Chan and Julian.

Lieut Chan (Sub DH Robotics)

Ben smiled “thanks Lieutenant.” Ben looked around. “I think it’s a very nice program.”

Park

Riley’s dark eyes focused on Chan. While he’d been enjoying the conversation, he had not missed her offhand comment about being a widow. She’d been married when he’d come aboard the Genny, to a doctor. He’d left soon after, most assuming the idea of married life and childrearing too much for the man to handle. In fact, he’d known Chan’s anger at the situation all too well.

His voice soft he simply asked, “What have you learned, Chan?”

Dekker, CNS

Chan sighed she had hoped people would no pay attention to the Widow part. it had just slipped out “Only that his body was found on Andoria. He had been tortured and murdered. We think it was because he was the father of my child and married to me. It was an attempt to draw me out. I know who did it. However i cannot prove it.” Chan sadness and anger in her voice.

“But it’s not about me right now. I’ll be happy to give you the rest of the details at another time. we’re here to enjoy the program and conversation.” She said after a short pause.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

Niniane however, despite her Trill spots, was still young and a junior officer and even though she now knew she would live twice as long as a human, she had no experience with the loss of a partner… or torture and murder.
Her blazingly blue Denobulan eyes widened to saucers at Chan’s almost off-hand mention of the tragedy and she froze, not knowing how to handle the situation at all.

  • Niniane Fahr, sci

It was a lot of information to take in outside the structured confines of his office, but Chan was a friend, and Riley felt for her. That she hadn’t come to him sooner, or even officially really, gave him pause. The guilt that could accompany such a realization was severe, but Chan embodied the toughness of her people.

Still, Riley couldn’t simply let it pass. He was not Andorian, but a hybrid that leaned heavily toward his Betazoid side.

“Chan, I’m sorry,” he spoke the words slowly. “We don’t have to push this away. You must feel so angry, so frustrated. How did you find out?”

He was expressly contravening her wishes to put the conversation aside, but friends reacted and absorbed information over drinks. He was the counselor, yes, but he had no intention of turning this into a session. He simply couldn’t ignore such a significant shock in his friends life.

Dekker, CNS

Chan sighed she wish she had never slipped up now. She had dealt with it on her own and didn’t want to drag the other into it. For fear of painting targets on their back as well. However she now knew that would be impossible.

“It was not long after i had, had a chat with Jullian about who i was and where i stood in the social Ladder of Andoria. He planted the seed of doubt about what i thought happened. So i started to dig around. I didn’t find much. However one day i received a priority call form my uncle. A human male had been found outside the capital city. DNA analysis proved who it was.” Chan paused and composed her self.

“I was officially ordered not to intervene. I was so angry and i wanted pay back. I was ready to go to war. My uncle talked me down as he had to do the same with my clan. When and Andorian is enraged there isn’t much that can stop them. However when the leader commands you to stand down you do. They are still investigating who is responsible, they need proof before they act.I know who it was though. But I’m not aloud to avenge my own husband’s death. I have to sit it out and wait. Like some.. some” Chan didn’t finish the sentence instead she just growled and downed her glass.

“That was 11 months ago.” she added anger clear in her voice. However even Chan didn’t know who she was angry at, whether it was herself or those responsible.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robortics)

Riley sat there, his drink cradled between the palms of his hands, listening. It was what he was good at, and as much as she may have resisted the idea of opening up, he knew emotions were better discussed than bottled up inside. At least when one was talking to a friend.

“I’m so sorry, Chan,” he knew he had said it before, but it beared repeating. “Is there no one on Andoria willing to pursue his killers? Starfleet can’t be happy this happened to one of their officers. What about his family?”

He stopped himself with a draw from his drink. He didn’t mean to pepper her with questions.

Dekker, CNS

Chan rubbed her temple this was not what she expected to happen. However she knew that if she got it out the way now maybe they would stop bugging her about it. “The Andorian authorities have no evidence, all they know is he was dumped on a back road and an Andorian was present. DNA analysis has proven that. But they can’t investigate the entire planet. there are no witnesses, no evidence and no suspects. I only have my hunch. ” she said pouring some more wine into her glass.

“As for star fleet they have to be carefully. the political climate of Andoria is shall we say delicate. there are three main parties vying for control , the Remainers lead by uncle are leading Andoria at the moment. They want to keep everything the way it is, they have the largest following. then you have the equal-lists they want Andoria to stay in the federation but they think star fleet and earth are no longer competent enough to lead the federation. They believe Andoria and the Andorian fleet should lead the federation. then you have the worst of the bunch, the separatists they want Andoria to break from the federation and rebuild it’s empire. An independent empire free form the federation. However their main goal is to crush the federation and control all of it’s territories.” Chan said simply.

“So if the federation send an investigative squad, then the two parties will claim that the star fleet is a abusing it’s powers as Andoria is not allowed to investigate earth and the Andorians that live there. He was killed n Andoria so it is under Andorian law that the investigation must proceed. Any interference may be seen as star fleet pushing it’s luck. it’s a nightmare.” Chan said taking a swig of her drink.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

Niniane had meanwhile recovered her composure and was getting more and more enraged on behalf of Chan.

“Ooohhh, don’t you hate politics, this is so unfair! You should send Mr Jarvis to investigate, at least nobody will ever remember he was there…” then she clapped her hand over her mouth. “Oh, uh… do you remember Lt. Tom Jarvis, our INternal Security agent who can’t be remembered…” she knew she would have to pay for remembering him and indeed, the headache started almost immediatelly and she winced and touched her forehead.

“For me only my Denobulan half remembers it, my Trill half doesn’t and that’s why I get a headache, but don’T worry about me. Tom would be your solution and once in his position he has access to all the Intel files of Starfleet too. He could find the culprit and you could revenge the hell out of the guy… or girl…I guess.” she said.

“Excuse me, I’ll just grap a hypo with some pain killer.” she added and went to get the holodeck emergency medical kit which was not far away from them in a wall panel.

  • Niniane Fahr, sci

Riley watched as the scientist went to retrieve the pain relief. He had a faint memory of Julien talking to him about a new officer coming aboard, one no one would remember. That had been ages ago. Is it possible he was still aboard the Genesis?

As Fahr returned to their table he looked at her questioningly, worried that she was ok.

“Sadly politics is the only thing keeping the galaxy form falling apart. SO it;’s a necessary evil. However it does get in thew way more time then it helps. Even officer decide not to do something that could help just in case it sparks some sort of incident.” Chan said simply.

“As for this lieutenant Jarvis I don’t recall him but at least i know what the check marks in my note book are for. However I’m not sure he would be able to help much. he’s internal security/ his job is to keep internal matters in check. However Francis was found on Andorian soil and Andorian citizen is responsible. DNA proves that. So it’s classed as an Andorian matter and an Andorian security matter. we would need intel first and the only person that could help with hat is Lieutenant Marishka, but she’s to busy wrapping herself around Julian and flirting with half the crew. To help me. Besides i’m not even sure she would help.” it was no secret Chan didn’t like Marishka. Mainly for the way she acted, but also because since Julian had been involved with her. it felt like He never came to see Chan or his God daughter.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

Their table was turning sour and Riley knew he was largely to blame. He’d taken Chan down a path she wasn’t ready to travel.

“I don’t think that’s fair Chan. Marishka hasn’t neglected her duty one bit. If you are ever willing to reach out to her you may find her more open to helping you than you think. But we can put that aside for now, if you’d like. I didn’t mean to pry too deeply and ruin the evening.”

Dekker, CNS

Chan picked up her wine bottle i was three quarters empty “You’re right,. that was bit uncalled for. My apologies. It’s just when i get frustrated i have a tendency to direct it at some one. whether or not it is deserved. I also think part of it might be the wine talking. i was never much of a drinker. Synthehol or otherwise. I’m a light weight really.” She said simply.

“I guess you dug up a few things i had tried hard to bury. but your right what else shall we talk about?” she asked.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

The tension in the room subsided and Riley took a sip of his drink, happy to return to sunnier topics. Still, in the back of his mind, he knew, in the future, he’d press Chan on the murder of her husband. It was too significant an issue to be buried. Maybe he’d broach the topic with Julien. The Captain had known for some time and may have more insight into the barriers erected to the investigation.

“Well, I am curious as to why you chose this time period. I like the music.”

Dekker, CNS

Chan half smiled “I find it a fascinating time in human history. despite what was going on, the amount of bloodshed and loss. You humans still found time to enjoy themselves and meet up with friends. To me it show the reliance of humanity and also how long it took you to put aside your differences and work together. ” she said looking round the room.

“Also i enjoy the music form this period i hand;t found much human music that i enjoyed. However the music form this time is most enjoyable. it’s full of hope, pride and a sense of duty.” she added after a short pause.
