Dagen had been quiet, trying to put together things basing it on limited information. If it had been ‘him’ looking at this from their side, right now the thought would be to keep the people in the dark on the news. No sense in creating a panic of sorts over the world around a ‘visitation’ of an unknown alien species that they themselves are not sure are friend or foe or deceiver. If they had had a scare then their going into defensive mode was totally normal. If they hadn’t and weren’t sure about ‘these Federation’ people taking a posture was normal. The thing of note though was: they were expanding their space program far too fast and at a detriment to their world economy. Why? And were they potentially being played as allied benefactors against some as yet unknown to them foe? “Seems like a normal action to me. Being careful.” More a show for political reasons. They couldn’t hurt the Genesis if they tried with what they had up to this time seen. Vigilance was always a good thing … “What do you think Chan?” He asked. Andorians took suspicion to an art form and her perspective would be good to have.
- Dagen, CE

Chan thought for a few moments “I think something has gone wrong along the way. Either a miss step on our way teams part or on our friends side.” she said indicating to the fleet. “This is a defensive formation, a good one. However they are no match for the Genesis. I think they are being careful, getting ready to either go on the offensive or to guide us in. showing us they will defend themselves if we try anything. They moved quickly not wanting to raise suspicion among their people.” she said simply.

“However there is no way of knowing until we hear form the away team or we get fired on. Personally i think their getting ready to make a move on the Genesis. Like i said either guiding us in or starting a fight.” she added after a short pause.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

“Sir I recommend going to yellow alert keeping our scans focused on the planet.”

Park

“I’d recommend being alert but not having shields up,” Dagen replied to Park. “We keep them guessing on what we can do and anything they are doing with powering weapons or firing missiles would be easily detected and we can put shields up then.”

“We tapped into their comms and satellites. By any chance are their comms from those ships going through one of those satellites? Or something we can listen in on?”Dagen asked Chan. It would be nice to know what they were at least thinking.

OOC: As CO seems to be AWOL, what would the XO suggest we carry on. Should I play the CO for the moment? The sim will stall if we keep waiting and nothing happens.

Kenson
GM

OOC: Jules wouldn’t mind. You can push on.

Marius looked at the sensors. “Aren’t they about a hour away at their maximum warp?” Marius hadn’t done the math but he thought they would have plenty of time if they decided to become hostile and rush all they way to them.

XO

Dagen did a rough calculation in his head. The estimation was close enough. “About that, sir. Really, we are far enough out that we could easily see what they are up to. They aren’t inside our weapons range. Phasers anyway. We could still use torpedoes. If we had to we could metaphasic shield our way into sitting in their sun and be away from them. Right now the danger isn’t with us. It is with them out there and our away team. My big question is: are they hiding anything? What are their motives here? Sure they are scrambling because we came out of the blue and are probably asking the same questions that I just did about us. We just don’t know enough right now.”

OOC: I am going to take it that the CO’s post was adjusted. See https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/genesis/notes/18938/

IC:
“Just fishy enough to make me nervous but not enough to make me start shooting.” Marius frowned. “This middle ground is annoying.” Marius turned and sat back in the Captain’s chair. “Too much waiting in this job.”

The CO’s shuttle took off from the Merry and returned safely to the Genesis.

GM

“Commander the shuttle is docked”

Park

The Merry moved slightly away and engaged their warp drive to return to where their home planet was. At the same time, the smaller ships near the home planet remained stationed at their defensive formation.

GM

“Give her a full scan and then welcome the Captain back.”

Marius XO

“Lt Chan,” Dagen said, “You’re good with small things. Please head down to the shuttle and run a scan for any foreign objects .. as in listening devices or otherwise, that might have inadvertently become attached.”
- Dagen, CE

From the bridge, the internal sensors did not show any presence of foreign listening devices.

GM

“Excellent. I doubt they have the ability to hide things from us if we look.”

Marius

It had sounded like the Genny had been invited to meet the Pallasian leadership, and Thomas was curious if that meant a trip closer to the planet… specifically inside that defensive perimeter.

Perhaps a call to Command for a Diplomatic specialist wouldn’t be amiss…
