OOC: this is after the return of the away team from the planet, so since the last chat a couple of days have passed.
IC:

Julien rang the chime to La’kia’s quarters.

The pregnant Zaharan was sitting on the floor on a blanket watching A’naad play as she read through various reports that the Ambassador was behind on. “Enter,” she said simply, acutely aware it was Julien and naturally curious about his visit.

Julien came in, dressed - quite unusually - in civilian clothes, black loose slacks and a black shirt. As soon as he saw them he smiled and immediately sat down next to them, hugging and kissing his son, he was by now apt to navigate the lighter gravity. He greeted her looking into her eyes and inclining his head while playing with A’naad. A probing glance also went down to her belly.

For a while he just played with A’naad, it was obvious he wanted to say something, but he kept smiling. Then when A’naad had settled down again a bit between them, his mismatched green eyes met hers again.

It was clear he came for a reason, but La’kia knew enough that Julien would share that reason when he was good and ready. But she soon felt his intense gaze on her and looked at him questioningly.

“So I thought about it all again. Even though we are currently at different places as to which kind of relationship we want and need, there is no doubt about the fact that you and A’naad and Flavia need me. This second birth could be even more complicated than the first one medically and nobody except for me and Sage can make sure everything goes well. I can’t leave you alone with this. ” he said calmly.

“Julien…” she said softly. “I’ll be alright.” She was entirely convinced it would be, but it was what she was telling herself for her and A’naad’s sake.

“I’ve talked with Starfleet Command about it, they can’t delay the Genesis’ mission just because of me, so I’ve asked to be relieved of duty for an indefinite amount of time. They’ve accepted. Tomorrow a cargo ship can bring us back to Earth.” he said and his smile widened.

The look on her face was one of utter shock. It was one thing for him to have offered months ago to walk away from Starfleet when faced with her need to serve her people, but it was quite another for him to have actually gone ahead and done it. A part of her didn’t like it, but she also knew that he was determined and if he truly hadn’t wanted to go that path, he wouldn’t have taken such a drastic step.

Setting down her PADD, La’kia gazed him and slowly. “Okay, that’s a lot to take in, but… alright. You’re… sure about this?”
