Marishka walked into the briefing room a bit behind Thomas. She had been on the away mission, seen everything everybody else there had, but was still suspicious.

Ben walked moments later and sat down by Thomas.

Tidying up a couple of things and putting the vessel(s) status as a flag in case they did anything untoward (aka .. any movements toward them) - and setting a forward to go to his PaDD if anything did hapen - Dagen headed into the briefing room. Finding an empty seat he sat down, leaning forward, his fingers folded together. Nothing happened fast at warp 1, even if it was warp, so this meeting was a welcome change.

Riley was cautiously optimistic that their current mission was mostly upside. Were it not for the anxiety he sensed from David, he’d have few worries at all from their first contact. He entered the briefing room in a good mood and took a seat.

Dekker, CNS

David entered the briefing room shortly after Riley. Since returning from the away mission the CSO has been strangely absent. He quietly took a seat.

-David Michaels, CSO

When everyone had arrived Julien stood up. “All right. The first round of talks went well, there is no sign of hostility or subterfuge, but of course we have to stay vigilant. As it is they have invited us to their planet and allowed our Science department…” he looked at David and Sage “… to explore their flora and fauna. I’m not a diplomat, I’ve informed Starfleet and I’m sure they will send a diplomat. We are a Science vessel however and this is the chance we’ve all been waiting for. Finally we get the chance to explore a new planet and civilisation.
Needless to say, every away team visit has to be advised and a security detail added. When a civilisation encounters their first aliens there are always traditional factions that are afraid and want to lash out.”

Thomas nodded. It was a sensible precaution. However, he didn’t have that many Security officers available, so there would have to be a lot of coordination involved.

he looked at Calvin and Riley “Please plan the away teams and -missions and make sure our crew stays safe. Any questions?”

  • Julien King, CO

Riley looked from Julien to Marius and nodded.

“Did they give us a social and legal regulation list. Always a problem if we don’t get one of those. We should also request a guide for each team. Particularity any team that is going to have social interactions.”

Julien shook his head “Not that I’m aware of, but that’s a good point. I’m sure Lt. Dekker can get it and brief the away teams on it.”

“Will do, sir,” Riley agreed.

“Security should be advised to defuse and evade issues…” Words that rarely came out of his mouth.

Julien nodded. “Another thing to brief.” he said, confident that Calvin would take care of it.

Thomas also nodded. He would make sure his most sensible officers were assigned to the teams, and keep the one or two hot-heads on the staff on board.

“Where exactly are we entering the planet Sir?”

From the discussions on the Merry, the ship was to contact the planet as they neared the planet. This was a similar procedure Earth had a few centuries before when airports were the places where people gathered to take the fastest travel available on the planet. However, from the sensors, there were only four places where the smaller ships launched from and only one of these was large enough to launch the Merry.

Julien looked at Ben. “Once we get into the planets defence perimeter we are to initiate standard protocol for making ourselves known and requesting coordinates for standard orbit for the Genesis and locations of entry for the shuttles. Let’s make use only of the shuttles, they don’t need to see our fighter… might give them the wrong idea and beaming down is also not an option, too advanced technology for the common folk down there. However, let’s keep a constant transporter log on anyone down there.” he said.

  • Julien King

Orbit was better than a hard dock. That way no locals would be making a charge for the ship. He nodded in agreement with regards to the non use of the transporters, but it should be no issue keeping a transporter lock on any on an away mission. He flagged a note on his PaDD around that.

“That’s fine anyway, rather keep the transporters our little secret for now. Don’t mind putting our cards on the table, but only the cards they know to ask for.”

Marishka sat back and listened attentively. One of the advantages of being the CIO is that she could perform multiple tasks while still gathering information. No doubt someone would find a way to make use of her unique skills.

“At least one person is to stay behind in each shuttle. Wouldn’t want curious natives, taking one for a joy ride. That would be touch to explain to Star Fleet Command.”

Marius

Dagen spoke up, “Sirs, they opened things up to flora and fauna. Any chance of a tour of their ships?” Hey, once an engineer, always an engineer, but then he had been a scientist in one incarnation and an exo-biologist in another. He could tap those ‘personalities’ if necessary, however, he still liked to tinker with things. “One question, sir. When the teams are down on the planet and others ask us how we are going to help their world and, more importantly, them, what is the proper reply for now?”

  • Dagen, CE

Julien smiled. “By all means, do ask them if you get a tour, but don’t go alone, needless to say.” his glance wandered to Marishka. “Maybe a good idea to take our CIO. And if you can glean anything of interest to us from this visit, I’m sure Starfleet Intel will be grateful.” he said to Marishka.

“As to your other question, just reply that your commanders and diplomats have entered into discussions on this and you might get punished if you act on your own. I myself am no diplomat, this is Starfleet’s job to send those. In the meantime we’ll just collect data and intel for them and explore a new planet and species.” Julien said.
