Not a telepath himself, but knowledgeable about the relationship status of a good part of the crew, Thomas suspected Michaels had an ulterior motive for requesting Riley on his team. He was also fairly sure, from Julien’s expression, that the Captain suspected the same, and was putting the burden on Dekker to avoid any extra-mission shenanigans while they were on planet.

Which could be prudent, especially as the Genny didn’t know the Pallasian’s attitude towards same-gender relationships.

Marishka tried to keep her expression neutral but she couldn’t help wishing that she could be in several places at once.

Riley didn’t know why David continued to antagonize Marius. It did the man no good, but Riley had learned long ago he wasn’t going to fix that problem.

“Agreed Captain. I’ll be happy to ensure our scientific explorations stay within the Pallasian’s comfort zone.”

Dekker, CNS

=/\=Captain, we are fifteen minutes from dropping out of warp.=/\= the NE manning the conn had reported.

“I want the teams ready for deployment five minutes after that. Do your team collection in the shuttle bay and briefing on the way down. Remember this is a dipolmatic meeting as much as it is a data collection mission. So be diplomatic. Any questions?” Marius looked about for a moment.

“Go.”

Marius XO

Sage had sat through the meeting silently. (It’s because I don’t know what went on. Someone could fill me in, please.) As officers were assigned to teams, she bit her bottom lip in frustration. Once again she’d been passed over. It was difficult to be married to the First Officer sometimes. He didn’t want to send her into danger, which was understandable, but this was a chance to peacefully explore another planet and its people. As people began rising from their chair, she cleared her throat and looked at her husband. “And what team will I be on, Cmdr?”

Marius stared at her for a moment and glanced at the Captain, “Join the first team heading to Capitol, we have the counselor on the science team…”

Julien smiled shortly and just nodded to Calvin’s order.

Dagen stood up and waited for Marishka. He had not interacted with her much at all and as she drew closer noted with a bit of surprise that she was as tall as he. Not that Dagen was precisely ‘tall’, and as his mind fluttered about he thought he didn’t fit the mold for ‘dark’ either beyond his hair, though that was now gathering a bit of a ‘salt and pepper’ look. However, all of this said, when Marishka drew near he turned to go out with her. “What kind of welcoming party do you think we’ll have?” he asked. “I’m wondering if they have thought of a series of different tours in advance or do you think we’ll have to go fish and see if they are open to showing us what they’ve got under the hood?”
- Dagen, CE

Marishka approached Dagen and gave a polite nod and smile. While it was true that they hadn’t interacted much she had always found Trills interesting.

“I’ve never been much good at fishing. Of course that probably depends on your definition of the word.” she said with a wink, “I’m thinking there will probably be some type of meet and greet followed by separate tours. I believe that would be to our advantage.”

Dagen smiled and relaxed; Marishka seemed to be not the stern personality that he had envisioned ‘intel’ officers to be. He had met several in the course of the construction of the Genny who were conducting sample scans. He could see them coming a kilometer away; Marishka no. He liked that. “I fished a lot when I was a kid with my grandfather and father and brother. I’m doubting that they’d take us out on that kind of outing.” But that could be fun. One learned a great deal in a social setting that was not ‘staged’ like the meet and greet. Dagen was a social and casual person, though less so than in his youth, however he could negotiate a meet and greet. “How do you think that will go, this meet and greet?” Engineers tended to be more open than many as they tended to have a ‘non sentient’ common area of interest that they could talk about.
- Dagen

Marishka thought about it for a few seconds. She had been to several meet and greets. Sometimes undercover or on the arm of some sleazy diplomat.

“I believe this could go several different ways. Sometimes perception is reality you know. If you would like someone to perceive you as intelligent or intimidating, that’s the face you show.” she explained.
