Shuttlebay One

“Thought it would be nice to get out for a walk,” Dagen replied. Then, in a lower voice, he continued. “You have an eye for detail with your robotics skills. Every civilization but for ones in the old science fiction vids strove to be less and not bigger in their tech. I’m curious what you will see in their development that others will miss.” Those others included himself. Everyone had an ‘eye’ for something different and that made all eyes valuable.

The Counselor looked around the cavernous space of the shuttlebay as their away team assembled. Julien had pulled him into a secondary command role years ago and yet there had always been the CO or the XO to take up ultimate responsibility of an away team. With Julien’s departure and Marius’ expectedly unwelcome confinement to the Bridge, Riley felt a weight of responsibility he had managed to largely avoid. It was both exciting and foreboding.

At least his first chance to lead an away team was one of diplomatic and scientific discovery.

OOC: New arrivals to the away team can post their entrance here.

IC: “For those who were not a part of the away team aboard the Merry, welcome. The Pallasians have shown themselves to be hospitable, curious, and welcoming. I’ve sensed no subterfuge on the part of their leaders, and this remains a mission of first contact. We have been graciously invited to their homeworld to learn. As such our away team consists largely of scientists and engineers. As guests, we must respect the social norms of the world we are visiting. Air on the side of caution. And remember, we know very little of the people we are meeting. First contacts often come with background research, years of painstaking observation and evaluation. None of that has happened here. Do not assume the Pallasians are our foes, but neither assume they are our friends. Questions?”

Dekker, CNS

Dagen was good and looked toward Marishka and the Security chief. Between the two of them he would be well protected. This was going to be exciting and something new in Dagen’s experience, if not for past hosts. In that he would join their exalted ranks.

Chan listened to Dekker she didn’t have nay questions but she knew she would be careful. After all she had no idea if everyone on the planet wanted first contact. However she hoped it would go smoothly.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

Sage entered the bay looking a little frazzled. She’d run through the corridors in order to reach the assigned away team on time after a short stop in a public toilet to violently empty her stomach. She walked over to Riley looking a little piqued. “Sorry I’m late. I had to make a detour.”

Ben had sat down by the edge of the doors of the craft as a tactical maneuver to ensure crew safety from any potential ambush. If there was one, he’d be the first to snuff it out he thought.

Park

OOC: Hey AJ, I don’t think Ben’s on the away team. As the primary tactical officer for the bridge, I think it might be good to have him available there in case our CSO’s suspicions about the Pallasians turn out to be spot on and the Genny finds herself in some trouble.

Not wanting to look like one standing about, Dagen headed into the shuttle, moving past Park, to sit in a second row ‘passenger’ set. He had become accustomed to this when the Genny was being constructed. Then, he had a shuttle or work-b pilot whose job it was to take him around on exterior surveys when the ship was at dock, and, sometimes, when they had taken her out when the impulse engines had been installed to gauge stress points along the skeleton. While he would have liked to have piloted some of those times, Dagen had to admit that his piloting skills were adequate but nothing to write home about.

Checking his gear, the Trill settled in. His was minimal, though he carried what he had in a satchel over his shoulder rather than on his belt. No sense advertising, he thought.
- Dagen, CE

Charley

OOC: I would like to be on the away team regardless. I think his talents would be better there.

AJ

OOC: AJ that’s not really how this works. I also agree with Charley that Ben was not called by the Captain or XO or 2O to participate in either of the away teams and in this instance should stay on the ship.
-James

Marishka boarded the shuttle and stood at the back. Too much sitting was bad for her calves and she wanted a chance to observe the rest of the away team. There were so many things at play other than their official mission. She wondered why the Palasians hadn’t been affected by her pheromones. Perhaps they were one of the few who had a natural immunity to such things. She wondered why she had ever promised David that she wouldn’t question him about, well, everything.

  • Marishka, CIO

Thomas took a seat on the CE’s shuttle as well. Heading into the unknown was a somewhat unusual experience for him, but dealing with a large group of people suspicious of him and his origins? He was almost excited.
