Valleea nodded slightly. It would be hard, especially since she wasn’t entirely sure how she felt about it all, but yes, loss was there. It was something she’d have to get used to, but then again she had intentionally avoided getting connected to people. “I suppose it is what it is. And I have this search of Orr’s to focus on.” It would keep her mind occupied when work couldn’t.

Riley had concerns about that, but he kept them to himself for now. Between work and the search of Orr, Valleea could avoid a hyper-focus on one aspect of her life, but neither option provided much in the way of stress relief or self care.

As he finished his iced tea he simply asked one thing of her, “Find an hour a day to do something else. Exercise, read a book, take dinner in the lounge, whatever it is, schedule it and commit to it.”

Annoyance flowed through her at first but it wasn’t like Valleea didn’t have options. After all, she had her embroidery, and while it was good for her surgical dexterity, it was meditative in its own way. And she of course kept up her physical training to meet Starfleet fitness standards. Still, even though she understood as a doctor what Ryley was asking of her, there was that part of her that was irritated at having such a directive. But she simply nodded and said, “Fine,” nonchalantly.

Riley sensed his misstep, but let it go. There were few non-empaths who enjoyed having their feelings outed to them, especially when their external response was quite different.

“Is there anything else you’d like to talk about?”

Dekker, CNS

The Kriosian shrugged slightly. “Not much else to say, really. I guess i just keep on going.” She had kept her end of the bargain and kept him up to date about how she was doing. The search for Daharren was by far the biggest, and she knew he was right that people leaving the ship was not the end, but she had to admit that it was hard to lose what friends she had allowed herself to make so seemingly soon after she had grown comfortable with the companionship. But she would carry on as she always did.

Riley stood and offered her his hand, “Thank you for joining me for lunch. I’m sorry to hear about Ensign Fahr’s transfer, but as you said, we keep going on.”

Riley could relate to sentiment and the struggle behind it.

It wasn’t a gesture she normally would have done, but Valleea rose and took his hand anyway, giving it a squeeze that conveyed her gratitude that even a few words wouldn’t be apt enough for. Even if it was a simple conversation, Dekker was a lifeline for her in a seemingly uncertain existence.

“Lunch again in two weeks?”

Dekker, CNS

The Kriosian smiled and nodded. “I will see you then. And… thank you.”
