About ten minutes before the ship arrived at the home planet, the sensors showed them that there was almost no movement of the ships in the defensive position. At the same time, there seemed to have been preparations made for their arrival.

Within an hour of the journey to the planet, the news was updated and there were news of a close encounter with beings from another world. There were pictures of the Genesis and the meeting of the CO with the representatives of Pallas on board the Merry. The encounter was described as peaceful and the impression of the representatives was that the ‘aliens’ were peace-loving. The big headlines was that the ‘aliens’ were arriving and officially meeting with the Pallasian government.

GM

Marius glanced at the news reports for a few moments. “At least they didn’t came we were cannibalistic homicidal aliens. ” He turned to the science officer on duty. “Let see what the are saying on the less official channel, might also give us some information on the political machinations underneath the surface.”

Marius XO

There was, of course, the nay sayers and those opposed to the government. The political opposition claimed that the government was pulling wool over the public’s eyes. There were others who sowed fear by insisting that the aliens were probably a scout which would later bring a whole force to conquer the system. Still others painted a picture of resource hungry aliens who were out to strip the planet of their natural resources.

GM

‘Figures,’ Thomas thought with a snort of derision reading the views of the opposition. ‘Because this government is obviously capable of building something like the Genny in secret and only dragging it out now, crewed by actors in makeup, for some reason.’

COS

Riley was scanning the news reports from his seat to Calvin’s left, “Fear can override logic. We are a big unknown to these people, it seems only natural some would think the worst.”

Dekker, CNS

“They are lucky its us not the Romulans, Orion or Ferengi.” He tilted his head. “By time they figured out who the Ferengi were, they would have already had their wallets stolen.”

They had taken about half an hour to analyse the news from the planet. They were now about 25 minutes from the emergence from warp.

GM

Dagen was quietly watching the feeds and the ships . “In many places the media are either the proponents or opponents of something. They will typically sway the populus by what ‘they’ feel is the opinion that should be taken more than any political voices. Underlying that is of course their own networking on the side of the people where everyone has their opinion and their five minutes of fame.” He shrugged. “No different with the Federation.”
Dagen, CE

XO

Marishka slowly turned and faced the XO, her green ringed dark eyes meeting his with a slow smile.

“Personally, I think they would prefer to meet Klingons.” she stated quietly.

OOC: Please all join the staff meeting in the briefing room, thanks, Jules

The ship was fifteen minutes from dropping out of warp and about another five minutes from the designated place that the ship was supposed to be in geosynchronous orbit. On the conn, the NE in charged reported the time to the CO and began a check on the engines and the weapons system. All were in optimal condition. Sensors showed that the communications systems on the planet were all focussed on the arrival of the Genesis.

GM

Marius came up after the briefing. He growled under his breath. Is this was acting Captain was going to be like. Giving orders and waiting on the bridge… that was going to get old fast. He never considered himself to valuable to risk, and he certainly didn’t think so now, but as the ranks above him decrease this relative value increased. “Report.”

Marius XO, Commander

The NE who was manning the conn, came up and said, “We are just minutes away from the coordinates given to us. We would be expected to communicate with them as protocol demands. The ship is ready for anything, sir. The sensors show that the Pallasians are at full alert. They have not powered up their weapons but their sensors are at full power.”

GM

“What about defensive systems?” Marius didn’t like the fact that they could beam aboard, even though he knew they didn’t have the the technology.

“Sensors do not detect any systems that would provide energy shields. The ships’ armour is considerable such that it would take a few phaser shots to break through. Planetoid, sensors detect quite a lot of underground bunkers,” reported the NE at tactical.

“Open Hailing Frequencies,” Marius paused, =^=Good Afternoon, this is Commander Marius of the Genesis. We announce our entry into your system and are thankful for your kind invitation. We stand ready to send our team to being a dialogue.=^= Marius turned about the bridge thinking to himself … and they say I can’t be tactful.

Marius

=/\=Welcome Genesis, this is Vice Admiral Hiko from the Pallas Space Port,=/\= came the reply. =/\=Please receive the coordinates for your team to land on the planet,=/\= Hiko continued, =/\=We hope you would enjoy our hospitality.=/\=

GM

=^=Thank you for the coordinates, Just to clarify we have two teams on two separate crafts landing, one of which is a science team for review of phenomena unique to your planet. =^=

XO

=/\=Very well, Genesis,=/\= came the reply. =/\=There will be two teams to welcome you. Again, Genesis, Welcome to Pallas.=/\=

GM

“Helm put us in stationary orbit above the capital.” He looked at the screen, “Standard planet, about 35k, but if the gravity is too different, be sure we stay in comfortable transporter range.”

=^=Shuttlebay One, we have the cooridinates for your landing sites. Go in slow and steady, no clever flying moves.=^=

Marius aCO

=/\=Acknowledged, sir.=/\= came the reply from the shuttlebay.

Dekker, CNS

“I want updates from the landing party’s at thirty minute intervals, but stagger them so each one is reporting in a different 15 minute window. Just in case something fishy happens. Every two hours flip the reporting window also.” Marius turned slightly as he finally reached the Captain’s chair. He had sat in it before but this time it was slightly different. It wasn’t someone else’s duty it was his. He dropped into it with a plop. “Well that wasn’t so hard.”
Marius aCO

Ben nodded at Marius. “Sir I think that chair suits you.” Ben looked down at his console and pretended to work.

Park

Marius snorted back a laugh. “We’ll see Mr. Park.” He then exhaled and with a more serious tone. “We’ll see.”

Marius aCO

“I could always test the chair out Sir for science.” Ben smirked

“Mr. Park,” Marius started, then paused. “Well, we learn by doing,” He stood up. “If you want to see what it feels like to be a Captain, take the seat, and be sure our Away Teams don’t get into too much trouble.” He would stay nearby just in case.

Marius

“Yes Sir.” Ben eagerly walked to the chair and sat down.” This was his chance to prove to Marius he can handle more Command duties if needed. “Sir isn’t it time for a sitrep from the away team?”

Park
