As David smoothly glided the shuttle out of the bay and toward the planet, Riley leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes. He wasn’t napping, he was running the away team’s initial encounter with the Pallasians through his mind. He couldn’t think of a single reason for alarm, but David was so adamant, in his vague way, that they remain on alert. Riley trusted David’s instinct.

He opened his eyes and looked at Sage, “What did you make of the Pallasians during our time on the Merry?”

He spoke loudly enough for all in the shuttle to hear.

Dekker, CNS

David entered the coordinates that had been given to them, and turned his head ever so slightly in his seat, as to indicate that he was very interested to see what Sage had to say.

-David Michaels, CSO

Chan was watching the ships systems but her antenna turned to hear what was being said. Any Intel she could get would be very helpful.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

She met Riley’s eyes. “They are checking all the right boxes in my mental list of what’s necessary to be accommodating, but there’s something about them that won’t let me relax. I know I’m very uncomfortable with the thought that one of them might touch me. Gloves or not, being able to read a person’s biologic responses even though they haven’t said anything—well, how do you fight something like that?” She looked around at the others, wondering if she was being over sensitive on the matter.

—Sage

“You don’t,” David said matter-of-factly.

David slowly guided the shuttle into the atmosphere and began the landing sequence.

-David Michaels, CSO

“I haven’t sensed anything nefarious,” Riley knew he was repeating himself, but it was worth reinforcing. “I suppose we don’t know how they interact with Betazoid empathic abilities. It’s worth keeping up our guard, but until they give us concrete reasons to distrust them, this is just a friendly, scientific mission.”

Dekker, CNS

Sage nodded. “I understand that and I’m not about to make any waves that would negatively affect our relations with each other.” She looked out the window and shrugged. “I think my mistrust is part of meeting an unknown species. Yes, its exciting and rare and everyone has a good time…until they don’t.” Looking back at the two men, she raised an eyebrow. “I’m just feeling a little wary, that’s all.”

—Sage

The window of the shuttle showed the slightly polluted atmosphere of the planet. They also saw the attempts to keep the oceans clean but the Pallasians had limited success. Where they were to land was a military complex with nuclear warheads. What the Pallasians have had success was the recycling of radioactive fuel. Although they had only twice the percentage of uranium than the planet Earth, the power in Pallas was primarily from nuclear power plants. Their most power weapons contained nuclear warheads. There was a small group of military personnel standing at the foot of the landing pad that the shuttle was heading for,.

GM

Chan saw the missiles “I hope you brought radiation protection Doc” she said simply.

Riley could only look out the window as David guided their shuttle smoothly to its landing. He trusted the four other members of his away team. If the situation became sticky they would handle it, and if everything was above board they would undoubtedly add countless significant scientific discoveries to Starfleet’s library.

As the rear hatch began to open, Riley stood and straightened his tunic. He met the gaze of each member of the away team before turning, putting on a broad smile and walking toward their greeting party.

Dekker, CNS

Sage took a deep breath as she returned Riley’s gaze. Although she had some apprehension about this meeting, it wasn’t really any more than normal. Meeting a new race for the first time was intense. Yes, she’d been with the other team on the first away mission to introduce themselves to the Pallasians, but this was different. This was private, a few of their people and a few from the Genesis. Conversations and observations would not be monitored and errors might be made. Even so, there was the internal excitement of possibly finding new, exceptional things on the planet. Setting her face to neutral, she followed Riley down the ramp.

—Sage

Chan was next to exit she surveyed the area trying to take as much in a she could, evaluating her surroundings and the men in front of them.

They saw Mr. Bassa, Mr. Sora and Admiral Clogtho. They also noticed that there was someone that looked “in-charge”.

“Welcome,” Mr. Bassa greeted. “I would like to introduce you to the planetary chairman, Mr. Neve.”

GM

David remained at the back of the group, letting Riley and Sage take the lead. They were both much more diplomatic than he would be in this situation. He was more curious about the enviornmental issues that seemed to be troubling the planet at present.

-David Michaels, CSO

Chan decided to stay at the back and let the others do the talking, she was a fairly good diplomat but not many knew that. that was hoe she liked it that way she could surprise people then.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

Standing next to Riley, the other members of the team behind them, Sage introduced the away team. “Mr Neve. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I am Lt Brennan,” She motioned to the doctor before indicating the two in the rear. “And these are Lts Dekker, Michaels and Chan. Thank you for allowing us time to visit your planet.”

—Sage

“Please come to our discussion room. I believe it would be more conducive to talk there,” said Neve.

The were led to a large room with a table in the middle and chairs on either side of it. There were name cards placed on the table written in Pallasian script. Fortunately, one of the attendants pointed out the chairs in which each of the Starfleet officers were to be seated. Once the four sat down: Sage in the middle, Dekker to his left and Michaels and Chan to his right. Neve sat down opposite Sage with Bassa facing Dekker and Sora opposite Michaels. Clogtho stood behind Neve.

Riley took the seat next to Sage, letting his dark eyes and his mind wander over the room.

Most of the delegates there were rather curious about Chan as he looked the most different from the rest of them, however, they were not so evident in their actions, choosing not to stare but merely to steal glances now and then.

Neve looked confidence and his emotions were congruent with his appearance. Clogtho, who was behind Neve, was tense as he usually was when he had to guard and ensure the security of the planetary leader. Bassa, on the other hand, looked calm but his emotions were nothing but. It was a very important meeting, he felt, for the Pallasian people and he did not want anything to go wrong. Sora was full of curiosity about the visitors and their experiences in space. His eyes did not hide his curiosity.

Park

He sensed nothing out of the ordinary, but letting his mind focus on the tendrils of emotions emanating from each of the Pallasians across from him, gave him insight into their motivations. It was Bassa who intrigued him the most. The man’s feelings didn’t match his expression. That wasn’t damning, but it made Riley wonder what it was that Bassa hoped to achieve today, because something was on the line for him.

“Mr. Chairman,” Riley addressed the man in charge. “Thank you, again for your very hospitable welcome. We represent the United Federation of Planets. We are explorers and are honored to meet new friends.”

Dekker, CNS

Behind Sage stood the NE Security officer who had accompanied their away team. As Park’s voice filled the room asking for a sitrep, Riley turned to the officer and with a nod indicated he should answer.

Without a word he removed himself to a corner of the room and reported, =/\=The Away Team is currently meeting with the Planetary Chairman, Mr. Neve, Mr. Bassa, Mr. Sora, and Admiral Clogtho.=/\=

Dekker, CNS

Chan took her seat and looked around the room despite there best efforts Chan could tell the men in the room where all interested in her.she had been trained from birth to be able to read a location on a matter of seconds. She guessed it was because they had never seen an Andorian before, after all she did look very much different to everyone else. She wouldn’t say anything though, she would wait for them to to start asking her questions. However she did find it amusing how intrigued they where, she couldn’t imagine the look on their faces if they every met any of the other federation member races.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

The sound that the commbadge made and the voice that followed triggered something in Bassa’s emotions. He was curious and excited but he remained clam exteriorly.

GM

Riley was able to train two different sense on two different people. While his eyes remained on the Pallasian leader, waiting for him to begin their meeting, he focused his empathic abilities on Bassa. Bassa’s mind seemed the most variable and reactive to the situation, and therefore, likely to be the most telling.

Dekker, CNS

“We are very honoured that you would consider us as friends,” said Neve as soon as the counsellor had returned. “It is, of course, important that we welcome you to our planet as friends. We hope that there would be reciprocity practiced in the building up of our friendship.” He was full of confidence when he spoke this. Riley also sensed anticipation from the Neve. At the same time, Bassa’s excitement increased after Neve spoke.

David watched and listened, trying his best to keep a neutral expression on his face. He took a sideways glance in Riley’s direction every so often, trying to get a read on what Riley might be sensing.

-David Michaels, CSO

Sage noted that all of the Pallasians in the room were male and wondered how they felt about two females being on the Genesis’ team. Most of the races/species the Federation had run across since its development were built on a patriarchal society, so it wasn’t a surprise, it was just something to file away. Sitting between Riley and David, with a security officer at her back, Sage allowed herself to relax and bring her special training to bear. As she observed the men across the table, she watched for ticks and tells and listening for specific word choices that could clue the Starfleet officers into how honest the Pallasians were being.

—Sage

Sora’s eyes darted to Riley and then quickly back to the doctor. He seemed curious. He showed the signs of wanting to enter into a conversation but he did not act on his desire.
