Communication was a little scattered, but eventually one of the other ensigns approached. “Hey Valleea, did you get word about this research we’re supposed to do?”

She stared blankly. “Come again?”

“You know, about those people the away team went to see? Some sort of diplomatic thing, I think?” The other doctor just looked at her expectantly as if she would immediately understand. this happened a lot. There was the assumption that because she was older than the average doctor of her rank that she somehow knew more. That was true in some respects, but in this case, she had no idea what they were talking about.

“Leave it with me, I’ll let you know if there is anything we need to take care of,” Valleea said confidently. She knew that with Sage not here right now, Sickbay still needed to run, so she was prepared to roll up her sleeves to keep things in order.

“Computer, give a brief summary of the Genesis’ current assignment.”

OOC: If you don’t mind Kenson, please and thank you. :) I can then get the medical side of things going.

OOC: Sorry for missing this post earlier. I am taking this out of a previous post: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf6/genesis/notes/10223/

IC: The Genesis has made first contact with a civilisation who is warp capable (only at Warp 1), although the technology they have would not be able to help them reach the warp speeds that Starfleet now enjoys.

Physically, the species were similar to humans. The only difference was their faces. They only had nostrils but no noses. They did not appear to have ear lobes. (Think of Voldemort with hair and eyebrows but no ears.) The were bipedal and were on average about 15% taller than the average European human. From the scans, the majority of the crew were also broad shouldered and well built. Internally, they had two stomachs and two two-chambered hearts: one heart dealing with the oxygenating of blood and the other dealing with the rest of the body. Due to the lack of earlobes, the species did not have great sensitivity to sound. They had, however, had a heightened sense of smell. Their olfactory systems were very well developed with twice the number of nerves than humans. They were also able to smell with their fingertips. This suggested that they would be able to detect changes in temperature and sweat just by their fingertips. It was probably due to this that the species all wore gloves over their hands. The gloves had detachable tips for the fingers.

“Computer, is there any information on dietary requirements and known allergies?” Valleea enquired as she considered what they would need to be prepared for with any visitors.

Ensign Valleea, Doctor

“From scans, the food the Pallasians consume are endemic to their planetary system. There seem to be more vegetables than meat. They obtain most of their protein from legumes. It is probable that there are allergies to legumes and nuts like in the human race, as there are allergies to pollen in the air. Scans have shown that about 10% of their population is medicated with antihistamines.,” replied the computer.

Nodding slightly, Valleea figured they could handle whatever issues might arise from either side eating each other’s food. But there were other interesting details she wanted to explore, and some leaned towards sociology than medicine, but it would be equally useful. For now, she’d keep to her wheelhouse: surgery and the preparations for any eventuality. “Computer, extract any info on the two Pallasian hearts and which systems they govern. Show me any visuals you have as well.”

Bump

Bump for GM?

OOC: Sorry. Missed your post.

IC:

The first two chambered heart served the respiratory system. The second served the rest of the body. It functioned similarly to the human body. Instead of having a single four-chambered heart, the Pallasians had one heart functioning like the left side of the human heart and another like the right side of the heart. Unlike the human anatomy, the Pallasians’ two hearts were not close to each other. They were separated by one of the two stomachs they had, a mass of nervous tissue. This stomach seemed to be only connected to the hearts and the lungs. It was almost as if the heart and lungs had a source of nutrients specially for them. The most interesting part of their anatomy was their nervous system. The nervous tissue separating the two hearts were actually special ganglions that were responsible for the working of the hearts and the sensory nerves that served the tips of the fingers.
