While there were many ways to try to contact Major Osvern, the simplest was a comm to his office at the Valtese Defence Force HQ here in Daquen. But there was always showing up and seeing f he would see Orr. It was hard to say what would garner a better reaction or result.

Orr pondered the options. The bold gutsy thing would be to just charge in and see. However the military worked according to protocols and discipline. Charging in was for the holos and old veterans who had a long standing relationship. He had neither going for him, so he crafted a letter with the DefCom letterhead, indicating that he, as an operating officer of the company was in ‘town’ for the next week and would appreciate a short meeting related to an exchange of student workers. He included a link to a promo video of their company that was all glitz and impressive clips. A further search of their company would show a list of contributors and projects they had done - that they could say. After all what was a defense research corporation if it didn’t do anything useful?

As he sent that off Orr ran a hand over his short hair and leaned back in the rather overstuffed couch. How does someone just drop off the grid in this day and age? Change in ID? But why? He was a promising student with a budding relationship and no known (yet) enemies. Were they to search for ‘new’ identities at that time after his ‘disappearance’ that would still be difficult. With the trillions in the Federation how could they just find ‘one’ new sort? But then, perhaps that wouldn’t be so hard … if he stayed put.

About an hour later, the Major replied that he was able to meet for about half an hour that afternoon, otherwise it would be a couple more days before he was free. He gave the time and said that he was to check in at Reception at HQ if that time was acceptable.

Orr was on his Comm-PaDD doing some local searches and gathering general information about Major Osvern from the public web to get a basic idea about him. When he received the confirmation he checked the time and logged the location and transit means to get there. Counting back in the time he figured he had enough time to take in lunch, check with the others and then head out. Orr replied that the afternoon appointment would be perfect.

Later, after having paid the cabbie Orr approached the building. Typical ‘military’ hues; Orr always felt that whichever paint was in high volume and cheap was the one the military tended to use - even if they mixed it with a more trendy architecture. He was dressed in his business attire - a light military turtleneck under a lighter colored blazer, slate grey trousers and comfortable shoes. Reception was not hard to find in a most establishments; doubling often as security they were there to see you before you saw them. He approached and greeted the person there. “Good afternoon. My name is Orr. I’ve an appointment with Major Osvern. He removed his ID to pass to the guard.

The uniformed guard took the ID and passed it to a woman also in uniform sitting behind the desk. She scanned the ID into their computer and nodded to the guard that was standing. “Mr. Orr, your appointment is confirmed. If you’ll just step forward over the line, you’ll be on your way in a moment.”

The line mentioned was a dark grey strip 1 metre long and 8 centimetres tall embedded into the pale stone floor. Tiny blue dots slightly illuminated the line and were clearly some sort of sensor system that would check for anything potentially dangerous of contraband.
