It had been a few days since David and Riley has opened the box from Jackson. It had been in David’s mind, as well as what he needed to do. With Julien gone, things were inevitably going to be different. He had to face the fact that no matter how much he detested the idea, Calvin was now the Captain. David has a responsibility to do what was necessary to keep the crew safe from any harm, including Marius.

Arriving at the ready room, David rang the chime and waited, trying to breathe slowly. There was no outcome of this meeting that ended pleasantly for either of them.

Another visitor at his door. Calvin shook his head. As XO he had a handful of visitors in a day, sometimes as few as one. As Captain he was averaging a dozen a day… The ready room was not there for peace and contemplation… it was a place where he could be found whenever someone wanted something.... usually his signature on a PaDD requesting something from someone.

“Come.” he half yelled, as the door, already keyed to his voice commands slid open at his comment. The ready room had been cleared of any vestige of Julien, but was not yet clearly Marius’ as it hung in that nether-land of not empty, but not quite full of personal items.

David entered cautiously, looking around the room slightly as he approached the desk.

“Mr. Michaels,” Calvin said as he moved one item from one side of his desk to another the frustratingly sliding it back. “What brings you, rap, rap, rapping on my chamber door.” He wasn’t certain that the science officer would get the reference.

David raised an eyebrow curiously. “There is something I need to bring you into the loop on. It is an ongoing personal matter than Captain King had been briefed on and with his departure I owe you the same as my commanding officer.” He paused, knowing the next part would not sit well with the new Captain.

That sounded serious. Marius stopped fiddling with the item on his desk turned to face Michaels fully and squinted slightly.

“Before I begin I will only say this once,” David said. “I will only give you information that I am permitted to, as I am still bound by the temporal Prime Directive. In this case there are..” He pauses, searching for an appropriate word. “Circumstances that allow me to bend the directive a bit and give you more information than I would normally in a routine mission.” He looked at Calvin, eyebrows raised, awaiting the mans reaponse before beginning his story.

“You’re a time traveler on an active star-ship, performing an active role, and in a relationship? I’m not fully brushed up on my temporal regs, but that seems out of bounds…” He paused, “Hmm, that does explain how so many of your hunches had positive results and why Julien gave you such a long leash.” He snorted… it explained so many other things…

“You…’ He paused changing his tack from his initial urge just to ask questions. His questions might be answered by Michaels explanation. It was better to listen and absorb at this moment. “You said there was information, I welcome knowing what’s going on.”

Marius.

David sighed. “There is someone from my past, from the future.... he’s… been playing games with me so to speak. I first received a message from him when we were docked at Black Rock. Then on the trip I took recently with Julien and Riley I encountered him in person.” David paused, trying to get a read on a man he personally disliked. This conversation was difficult enough to have, but more so difficult from their own personal attitudes towards each other.

“The mans name is Jackson Grey,” David continued. “Like me he is also a time agent who formerly served under the Department of Temporal Investigations for Starfleet. I followed him back in time to prevent him from the mass murder of a species who would become a major threat to the Federation and to preserve the timeline as best I could. My initial mission failed and I was stranded here in the current timeline without access to a temporal ship.” David paused again, this time letting out an even bigger sigh and running a hand through his hair.

Marius hand came up as he rubbed his chin in thought. If David listened closely he could his the ruffling of his stubble against his hand. It had the secondary effect of covering his mouth on passes as if he was physically trying to he keep himself from talking.

“Jackson is also my ex lover,” David said. “I think he in some twisted way wants me back. He’s made no direct threats to me or the ship but he’s obviously been tracking me through time. I honestly don’t know what he wants.”

BUMP

“Unreal.” Marius exhaled. “I can’t even imagine…” There clearly had to be a lot of information that went past people with a higher pay grade than hime. “How did you get cleared for the Fleet? and who else knows?”

Marius

David shook his head. “I have always been an official member of Starfleet. I was cleared for active duty in this timeline by Admiral Janeway herself. You can check with her if you like.” He let out a sigh. “Captain King knows as does Riley. Oh and Marishka.” He let out a sigh. “I’m bringing you into the loop as my Commanding Officer. The safety of this ship and the crew are of the most importance to me.”

-David Michaels, CSO

“It was the judgement of the Captain and Admiral Janeway, that Riley and Marishka was cleared to have this knowledge prior to the first officer? Or was that a personal choice?” It seemed to Marius his concern for the safety of the ship and the timeline was directly related to how much he liked the person he was informing. Marius could understand that something was too classified for him to know as the XO, but if this was true the 2O and the intelligence officer also were not to be informed.

David laughed, shaking his head. “Marishka knew things that I don’t believe even Captain King knew himself. She had a way with information.” He heaved his shoulders in a shrug. “As for Riley, well I shared my very personal situation with him because of the nature of our relationship. If you and I had been sleeping together, then no doubt I’d have given you the same information.”

David scowled. “Look, I’m telling you now and so now you know. If there are further developments to this situation I will make certain that you are informed. Or if you prefer I can make a ship wide broadcast and inform the crew that my ex lover is attempting to play mind games with me, and that he happens to be a rogue time agent from the future with access to unknown future technology and information.” He folded his arms across his chest. He was done with trying to be civil and professional. How Starfleet had let a man with such poor interpersonal skills take over the Genesis was far beyond David’s understanding and comprehension.
