It was mid afternoon by the time Reia got to sickbay for her boarding physical. She had meant to be there earlier but other small matters kept getting in the way.

Stepping in, she glanced around looking for an available Doctor.

  • Reia, CIO

It was fairly busy as evidenced by the beds filled and the staff moving about swiftly, communication passing across the General Purpose Ward.

“We’re getting low on terakine,” a woman with dark wavy hair said as she moved towards Reia, walking slightly backwards to talk to the other staff.

“I’ll restock from the replicator,” came a response from one of the nurses.

“Bed Three needs a surgical consult,” one man called out from the left bank of beds.

“Noted,” the dark haired said. Turning to face the newcomer, the highly focused doctor took in Shandy, her light smattering of spots reminiscent of a trill, though the colouring was much softer. “Good day. We’re a bit backed up today, so name, rank and what you need and we’ll get to as quickly as possible.” If it had been an emergency, Valleea was quite certain she’d have been able to determine that at a glance. Still, with her tall posture and abruptness, someone might mistake her for being cold, even though reality was very much the opposite.

Ensign Valleea, Doctor

“Ensign Reia Shandy. Boarding physical. I can wait as long as you need me to. I would offer to help out but…” Reia shrugged and trailed off.

She had some basic first aid experience but she was not the type of down and dirty CIO they might have been used to. Her skills were more observational. She saw things more as a puzzle.

  • Reia, CIO

Valleea gave a half-smirk. “It’s alright. It’s busy, but nothing we’re not used to. Find an empty bio-bed and I’ll be right with you after I do a consult,” she said simply. “Won’t be long,”

Stepping away immediately, Valleea moved to the left biobeds and began to look over a PADD plus the monitors over a biobed. She conversed between one of the other med staff and a woman lying on the bed, clearly in some discomfort.

Ensign Valleea, Doctor

Reia took the last biobed on the right and waited. Glancing around the busy sickbay she realized she’d always felt at home in a crowd.

  • Reia, CIO

Sage entered sickbay to see her staff working smoothly through a busy time. She watched Valleea leave the bedside of a white haired female and cross the floor to assist a patient that was totally reclined with NEBron at his side. Must be a consult or an assist… she thought. With no treatments glaringly in need of her skills, the CMO headed over to the platinum haired woman. “Hi, I’m Lt Brennan. It looks like Valleea got called away so I’ll take over if you don’t mind?”

Sage could not place the species of the patient, as not only was her hair absolutely white, her eyes were white too. Unless they had full blown cataracts, which was highly unlikely as they were very treatable, Sage had no explanation for their appearance. She was eager to to see what the visit was about. “What is your name so I can pull up your chart?”

—Sage

Reia smiled politely at the doctor, her grandmother had been a nurse so she felt at ease in medical facilities.

“I’m Ensign Reia Shandy, your new CIO. Pleased to meet you doctor.”

  • Reia, CIO

Sage smiled at the Ensign as she pulled up the woman’s medical file. Emerald eyes scanned pertinent information: species, height, weight, ongoing health issues. “You’re half Orion? I never would have guessed that.”

She pulled a medical tricorder from the pocket of her med jacket and scanned Shandy. (OOC: What does she find?)

—Sage

Reia got that a lot, she merely gave a slight smile of embarrassment. The tricorder’s readings showed a healthy young woman with no long term illnesses or pertinent medical needs though she had inherited Orion pheromones from her father, they were not nearly as strong as a full Orion or, perhaps, an Orion/Klingon hybrid.

“Yes, no green skin here, just this pigment instead. The rest of my Human family is quite fair skinned. They eyes are natural and not a form of any type of illness but you’re welcome to take a closer look if you like.” she said patiently.

  • Reia, CIO

As Sage read the results from the tricorder, she nodded. “I’m not getting any negative notifications on you, so things appear to be fine. But I would love a chance to examine your eyes. Does bright light hurt them?” She needed to choose the best way to see inside the white orbs. A way that wouldn’t cause Shandy any pain or discomfort.

“If your siblings don’t have your same pigmentation, I think they lost out. Your coloring is quite striking!”

—Sage

“Actually I’m an only child which is probably for the best. My human mother had no sisters or brothers and I don’t think bright light hurts my eyes more than it might anybody else’s.”

Reia had deliberately omitted her Orion father. How could she speak about someone she didn’t know.
