“I don’t know if we get to make that decision for them Ensign.” Marius turned at the screen. “Hundreds of worlds used fusion power without immolating themselves, Many times more than those who did. In any case they would be safer with our help than without.”

“Scan their current reactors… its curious that they mentioned them so readily.”

Marius

“ I just wonder what kind of damage has already accord” Tigress said as she started the scan. “ scan is running I’ll let you when I get the results captain” Tigress said.

Magnus turned to the Captain “Well it is Starfleet Policy to deal with new Species with openness and trust until proven otherwise” He smiled “If they are anything like other first Contacts they’re probably so in awe of our technology that they daren’t lie to us. Did you not detect them from several days away at our maximum speeds, that’s so far beyond their comprehension we might as well be wizards”

Deeg chimed in at this point. “S-sirs,” he began, his stutter acting up. “They primarily utilize fission nuclear plants. Their outputs are generally higher than average. It is what they use on their s-ships as well. Scans of their news indicates research into fusion and unsuccessful experimentation.”

“That seems unremarkable,” Marius faced the screen as he rubbed the goatee he wore. “Anything on the scan of gravity wells? Particular the one that they lost three probes to.” He didn’t surmise the gravity well itself would be a problem for the Genesis, but he doubted the problem was as straight forwards as they reported it to be.

Deeg agreed. There was nothing unremarkable about their developing technology. Sure their power outputs on their nuclear plants were impressive and they had done work toward that, but in the end, fission was still fission. It was so 20th Century. Deeg had slept through those classes in grade 6. Pirates were interesting though, and they between this homeworld and the colony. They wouldn’t be aliens; that would be silly, unless the aliens had taken over the colony and was perpetuating the mystery of the lack of communication of the colony. But the missing probes. That was interesting.

“Moving sensors to scan the s-s-space between here and the nearest star,” Deeg said. “If there is a gravity well or planetoid we should pick it out. It’s not that far away.” His fingers moved carefully on the board, himself leaning in and squinting at the small screen before him as though he would find out anything more that way.
- Deeg, NE Eng

OOC: I think this fell off, still scanning for gravity wells, pirates, and the general status of their reactor tech/risk.
