IC: Riley strolled around his and David’s quarters. They’d finally settled in. While a few crates were tucked deep inside their closets still needing to be unpacked, the space was organized and reflected a solid mix of the two men’s style. Riley felt better than he’d have thought about sharing his living space with another. Rather than feeling anxiety at the change, he welcomed it.

Change was the operative word on the Genesis these days and tonight was meant for those closest to Riley and David to celebrate it. Julien’s departure had left a hole in the heart of the crew, but Marius’s ascension to the captain’s chair provided a measure of continuity that eased the loss. And now there was a new personality in the mix. Lt. Cmdr. Peterusson was an unknown quantity. Riley had the benefit of a one-on-one with the new XO, but other’s hadn’t had the same opportunity. Riley hoped tonight would provide a chance for those the XO would work most closely with to start to know the man.

And if it served as a makeshift housewarming for the Counselor and CSO’s new living arrangement, so be it.

“David, I hope you’re ready. Our guests should be arriving any minute,” he called toward the bedroom where he knew the CSO was finishing getting ready.

The set up was casual. A few hors d’oeuvres mixed with desserts were laid out on the circular dining table in the middle of the room. A bar was pushed against the wall with bottles of beer and wine in buckets of ice next to stiffer fare and glasses. Riley had invited the senior staff and bridge officers to attend along with any companions they’d like to bring. The Genesis had a tradition of large parties, especially around Christmas. This was a more intimate affair.

Riley made his way to the bar and poured himself a Hendrick’s over ice, adding a twist of lemon. The Scottish gin had been around for centuries and was a favorite of the Counselor’s. He took a sip and let himself look over the space one more time. Everything was ready. Now for the people to arrive.

Dekker, CNS

Ben was dressed in his family’s traditional attire. An emerald green woven shirt and tan slacks with his black leather boots. Waiting just outside the door for Tigress.

Park

Tigress came up shortly after Ben. ” remind me why you decide to drag me along again” Tigress asked with a grin she was clearly teasing him. She was oddly enough in a simple dark blue dress. Her wight and black striped fur was neatly brushed. Her tail twitched but back an forth. Tigress shook her head. ” time with you is always great and is the only thing that make leaving Zoology worth it” she said after a moment still testing Ben.
Ensign Tigress

Dagen was only a minute behind Park and Tigress. He was dressed in a collarless white tunic with blue braided highlights that was shaped like one of the old dress uniforms of a past century. His grey pants were made for comfort; overall nothing he wore particularly stood out. It was more his characteristic five o’clock shadow and failed attempt at getting his hair under control that bore more interest by some. He held a bottle of a recently purchased wine from a recent Italian vineyard. Their reputation was good and had been receiving good reviews, though their entries into any competitions tended to be overshadowed by leading French producers. Dagen was more of a whiskey man, though for occasions wine seemed more the standard. This was called ‘Cathedral’s Shadow’ and was a drier white wine.

He moved slowly. He was sure that the new XO was one he had crossed paths with some years ago. His memory on this was dim, however. There were more than one Peterusson in Starfleet. He only knew that the memory was not pleasant. Would he even remember him? Dagen was annoyed with Thor; the little slug was no help with this one. “Are we going in or just hanging out?” He asked with a smile. They were an ‘item’ he knew from the grapevine. “Are we too early?” He had not checked the chrono before leaving.

While no one had pressed the chime, Riley could sense the gathering of minds outside his door. He called one last time to David, “Guests are here.”

He didn’t believe it would hurry the man up. David would be ready when David was ready. That wouldn’t stop Riley from letting them in. Light jazz played over the rooms sound system as Riley made his way to the door. One last look in the mirror confirmed his hair was in place and the thin dark grey sweater he’d paired with black slacks were striking enough against his pale skin and dark hair.

He pressed the door release, revealing Ben and Tigress, the Chief Engineer a few steps behind them. Riley reached out to greet his guests.

“Lt. Park, Ens. Tigress, I trust there are no hard feelings from my part in your recent prank,” he grinned. “I’m only sad I didn’t get to see it come off. Please come in.”

“ he threw a net on me” Tigress said. She did not sound amused.

Only once the pair had passed through his door did Riley extend his hand to Thor, “Welcome, Lieutenant. Please come in. You’re right on time.”

Dekker, CNS

Dagen swapped hands that held the bottle and returned the hand shake, smiling freely. “Thank you for the invitation. I’ve not known too many welcoming gatherings so this is nice.” While he said that his stomach felt a touch of trepidation, those butterflies. Suddenly remembering, he handed Dekker the bottle of wine. “Something for later,” he said, then entered.

Riley took the bottle offered, “Thank you. If the Genesis is anything it’s a family. That may be my Betazoid half talking, but I’m hoping we have more welcomings in the years to come. Please, make yourself at home.”

Stepping in, he heard the jazz playing. He had heard it before. On OP42 the bar there had a Jazz night. His impression of the music was mixed. Some pieces he enjoyed though much he just thought was percussive noise. The pieces he did like were those that seemed to carry a mystical air to them that evoked a sort of history or primal connection. Sorel, one of Thor’s past hosts found the music compelling enough to do a lot of his politically charged poetry in a parlor/bar of sorts that played Jazz. So in a way, Dagen had had a lifetime of Jazz experience. He saw the food and drinks and angled more toward the wine. Once, with a glass of white wine in hand and that he had tasted the cool chill of it, he turned to take in the room. Classic executive officer layout. His eyes moved about remembering the layout underneath of the life blood of a ship - all the things that made what was seen ‘work’. He was proud of his work on the Genesis and mused on whether the XO would want ‘renovations’ done like the past Captain had.
- Thor

Magnus arrived a little later than he’d have liked. He was admittedly more nervous than he thought he’d be. More nervous than he’d been in some time. He arrived just in time to see Parks, Tigress and Lieutenant Thor entered the room. He quickened his pace to reach the door before it closed, placing his hand on the end he looked inside and smiled his ever so charming smile “Evening” In his right hand was an unmarked green bottle. He was dressed in dark pants and a tight-fitting maroon dress shirt with rolled up sleeves. “I do belive this is the right place”

XO
“You’re the guest of honor,” Riley said setting down the bottle Thor had brought so he could accept the mysteriously unmarked offering brought by the XO. “That makes this the right place. Come in, grab a drink and a plate of food and mingle. I’m sure those you haven’t yet met are full of anticipation and curiosity. I’ll watch out for you. If anybody tries to monopolize you too much, I promise to intervene.”

Riley gave the XO a conspiratorial pat on the shoulder as he moved aside, giving space for the man to cross the threshold.

Magnus didn’t answer vocally, favoring a simple smile and soft chuckle in response.

Tigress heated the XO’s voice and turned to look at him. She was as of yet undecided as to wether or not he could be trusted.

Marius intentionally came a little late, he didn’t want it to seem like it was an ‘official’ welcome. Although when he thought about it, perhaps he should have had one. He exhaled, one more thing he would have to learn from. If Star-Fleet left him in charge long enough to welcome another officer.

He turned to face every officer there acknowledging them with a nod. He held an unlit cigar between his teeth which prevented him from talking too much which suit hime just fine.

Marius

Magnus returned the Captains nod. He wasn’t entirely certain of what to make of the man yet. He made a mental note of his choice of mouth accessory and lack of a companion.

Tigress’ ears dropped back against her head when she saw Marius. She did not have an issue with the man as of yet but he also did not have her trust. Though not many people on the Viking did, and those that did have her trust ensign Tigress had repeatedly tested before trusting them.

Ensign Tigress

Riley sensed Tigress’s reaction to the arrival of their new CO, but didn’t let it change the welcoming expression across his face. The scientist had never fully trusted Julien. He imagined her wariness came from her feline roots and would work themselves out in time. Instead he made his way to Calvin. He extended his right hand for a handshake and his left hand gave a friendly grip to the man’s shoulder.

“Congratulations, Captain, and welcome. I was glad to hear of your promotion.”

“Thank you,” Marius said with a half smile. “The Captain’s resignation caught us all by surprise a little bit, but I think we have all our pieces in place now.” He nodded slightly, “Glad to still have you aboard. You’ve always been a great resource to command and the crew… I hope that that continues.” Marius wondered why Riley hadn’t at least thrown his name in the hat for XO. As a general rule, Marius didn’t like Counselors becoming command officers, different training and all, but there were exceptions to every rule. And Marius had found his calm, logical, and yes, emphatic view of people and problems very helpful and probably would have made a good counter point to Marius’ command style.

Chan was next to arrive sh wore a pale blue form fitting dress and a white shall. Shew also wore her favorite necklace it was a beautiful silver and gold necklace with the Andorian role crest on the pendent. it had taken Chan a lot to convince herself that she should come. She had given herself self imposed excel to keep those closest to her safe. She had lost enough the people she cared about. However in the end it was Sheeah who had conceived her.

Sheeah was next to her mom wearing a white baby doll styled dress the six year old half Andorian half human smiled at the room and waved.

“Sorry we’re late” she said as she entered the room. “I brought this. it’s a bottle of the finest Andorian ale. I wasn’t sure if we where bringing anything so i just did anyway.” she added Giving the bottle to the CNS.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

Riley obviously enjoyed playing host and greeting everyone as they arrived. He shot a smile at Chan, but his attention quickly went to Sheeah. He squatted down in front of her and opened his arms for a hug.

“Don’t you look just stunning, little one. You become more beautiful every day.”

Sheeah smiled and hugged Riley. “Thank you, mummy helped me pick my dress out. I like the color” she said sweetly.

After greeting the daughter he stood to greet the mother. The hug he gave Chan was less tight than that he’d given Sheeah, but he greeted her as a friend nonetheless.

“Thank you for the ale and I’m so glad you could make it and bring Sheeah with you. Please help yourself to anything. I think you’ll like our new XO. He knows a thing or two about loyalty that makes me think you’ll speak the same language.”

“I’ll make it a point to talk to him. The ale will probably be a lot stronger then you think. i had it delivered straight form Andoria” she said kindly.

Reia stepped through the door behind the Andorian mother and daughter. She was wearing black slacks and a red and gold blouse that suited her skin tone.

She didn’t make it a point of avoiding ship functions because it was a good opportunity to watch all the puzzle pieces in action and, perhaps, make a friend.

“Hello Counselor.” she said passing a small box of chocolate.

Reia never drank alcohol afte that third time, on the Luna Colony and synthehol of any kind just wasn’t her style.

  • Reia

As Chan and her daughter made their way deeper into his quarters, Riley greeted Reia, “I’m glad you could make it, and bring a little something for my sweet tooth. I know this is officially a party for Commander Petursson, but I hope you find it a welcome for yourself as well.”

Reia gave a slight smile to the Counselor. He had been nothing but kind and professional to her so she took his kind words as they were meant.

“Well I suppose we’ll see now won’t we?” she said cheerily.

Walking in with Tigress “it’s nice to socialize with people Tigress so they and you can get to know each other better.” Ben looking at the Counselor “It was wet Counselor good job on the prank.”

Park

Tigress smile then leans over and kissed Ben on the cheack.
Ensign Tigress

Thomas was the next to arrive, bringing a bottle of Macallan’s Scotch with him. It was unwrapped, but still sealed.

He made his way silently over to the table collecting all the other drinks bottles, before adhering himself to the wall to observe the goings-on.

COS

Riley noticed the COS slip past him and make his way to the wall. It wasn’t unexpected. McGregor had served on the Genesis for a long period now, but Riley knew him to be an introvert. Only the entrance of Sage prevented the Counselor from invading the man’s space.

Reia had gotten a glass of sparkling water with cloudberry essence before realizing her proximity to the COS. She gave a shy smile and took a few steps away sensing he might be the observational type like herself.

  • Reia, CIO

A few minutes later, Sage walked into the party wearing an off the shoulder cream, colored sweater with the sleeves ruched up, and a pair of figure hugging, black leggings, with a pair of medium heeled short boots. Her hair was pulled over one shoulder which drew attention to the turquoise jewelry at her ears, and wrists. Since Cal had decided to go to the party without her, she wasn’t at all interested in finding him now. Crossing the room, Sage set a square, black box tied with a ribbon on the house-warming gift table. A tiny card on the box simply said, ‘I’ll tell you both what this is when we are alone.—S’

A quick look around told her that almost everyone had arrived. Time to find a drink and some conversation.

—Sage

Marius watched Riley walk over to Sage. As he awkwardly stood mostly alone watching another man smoothly and comfortably hand his wife a drink. Marius cursed his stubborn nature. Another man would just apologize and move on, although he barely knew what he was apologizing for. Not to mention he thought false apologizes were more insulting to the receiver than honest disagreement.

He continued to roll the options in his head, Sage could just as easily come to him. She was the one who walked out on their conversation… why should he come running back to her. ‘ARRGGGG.’ he screamed inside his own head.

Tigress noticed both the captain and CMO’s strange behavior. She turned to Ben ” ill be right back” she said. Then she walked over to the captain. She got to just within his reach before stopping. Her ears were laid back against her head and her tail twitched. She was definitely not comfortable with being this close to the captain. But with the party going on she had to in order to talk to him. ” is there a reason your acting out of caricature Captain ?” Ensign Tigress asked her voice was not exactly conversational. She was trying to see if he was ok but at the same time Tigress could not hide the fact that she did not trust him.
Ensign Tigress

Marius had picked up the approach of the feline ensign but had not turned just in case he wasn’t the objective of her course. When she stopped he knew and turned slowly, the unlit cigar leading his face. He paused as he listened to her question. “Out of Character Ensign?” He said slowly and with what sounded like a bit of humor. “Cigar, check, Nodding authoritatively at people, check, Drinking… ” He reached out quickly and picked up a glass from someone passing too close. “check” he finished as he took a sip.

“I’m not certain of what behavior you speak of.”

“ you are usually next to the CMO doing all of the Sir. It’s been that way every party Iv see you at with out fail. Not to mention something just seams off about you” she said.
Ensign Tigress

Riley poured a vodka over rocks with a twist and brought it to Sage. His quarters had filled with people and the buzz of conversation was competing against, and winning over, the soft music playing. He lifted his drink to hers, an intimate toast.

“You look stunning Sage, no doubt reminding a certain someone of the benefits that would come with a detente.”

Dekker, CNS

She took the drink and smiled. “Thanks! And I’m not holding my breath for a truce. He’s said some really awful…” She stopped and bit her lip. “Sorry, guess I need this more than I thought I did.” Sage took a healthy swallow from the glass. “Go ahead and greet your guests, I’m fine.” Riley didn’t move away immediately, so she reassured him again. “Honest, Riley, I’m okay. Its been a while since I’ve seen some of these people—I’ll just mingle.” She began looking around to see who exactly was present.

—Sage

Magnus looked across the room and watched everyone with great interest. Casually making his way to the drinks table he eyed the different drinks available. He grabbed a beer and opened it, lifting it up and took a slight sniff. He took a sip as he considered what to do next. He turned around and looked across the room. In his mind a mental roadmap of where everyone’s locations was forming. The Security Chief by the wall next to the Intelligence officer, Ben Park, and Tigress together next to the Chief Engineer Thor, the Captain chewing his cigar standing a surprising distance from his wife, an Andorian woman and her child who he was fairly certain was one of those subdepartment heads He’d tried to memorize. Then, of course, his generous host zipping across the room conversing. At what time of the night would it be acceptable to open his bottle of Black Death to entertain the crew.

XO

As Magnus watched the room he would feel a tug on his trousers. Looking down he would see Sheea looking up at him head coked to the side. She cocked her head to the left then the right then smiled. “Hi I’m Sheeah are you new here. I didn’t see you before. Maybe we can be friends” she said sweetly.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics) And Sheeah

Magnus turned around and looked down at the young girl and smiled. After placing his drink back on the nearest table he took a knee to face her directly “I am indeed new here. My name is Magnús Péturson” His slight Scandinavian accent evident “You can call me Maggi” He placed his right hand on his knee “I’m sure we can be friends. Do you have many friends here?”

“But isn’t Maggie a girls name?” Sheeah asked she had obviously misunderstood the shortened name.

She then nodded “I do. None my age though. They’re all grownups. I like NE goodie, she makes cup cakes and they’re yummy. I can always find a friend at anytime” she said happily.”My best friends gone though he was in charge before. But he left to save people.” she added a twinge of sadness in her voice.

Dagen had a target rich environment for talking to people. Sipping on the wine he thought it a tad too chilled (to his taste) though it would warm soon. He could people watch, though that was not his style entirely. His watching was .. more interactive. He noticed Reia who was by herself. He didn’t really know her but had heard of her. Dagen didn’t know everyone though the key people it certainly behooved him to know. Slipping over to where she was - which wasn’t ‘that’ far given that it was someone’s quarters … he introduced himself. “Hi, I’m Dagen. I find it is always more fun to people watch with someone.” He glanced down at her drink. “What is that?” he asked, curiousity evident.

Marius

XO

Reia turned her attention to the CE and glanced down at her glass before looking back up.

“Reia Shandy. I’m your new CIO and this is sparkling water with cloudberry essence. Alcohol and I don’t make good mates.” she said casually allowing a bit of her Australian accent to show through.

  • Reia
    Lieut Chan

Dagen had certainly heard of the water-with-flavor mixes. He had always found them to be .. pale, the flavor just not enough to satisfy. Thor liked it though for whatever reason. Dagen had his theories which went back a host and her penchant for flavored teas. “I know what you mean. Before I was joined I was fine for certain things, well, most things. After I joined with Thor I found that I was irritated by certain things. Some alcohol and things that are very salty.” He took a small sip. Indeed he had had a time when almost any alcohol was upsetting, though after his time on OP42 he found that there was a tolerance for some but not others. He was still searching that out.

“What did you do before? And what got you interested in the intelligence arena?” he asked.
