Mary knew it would be rude not to reply so she turned around and looked them, both in the eyes before clearing her throat slightly. She didn’t know quite how to say what needed to be said but she was honor bound to do it anyway.

“A gift for our new Captain, from the same person who gave you your lovely bottle of Merlot Counselor Dekker.” she turned slightly to face Marius more directly, “Ensign Mary Jameson, Engineering. My congratulations sir.” she said calmly waiting to be excused.

“Gifts,” Marius looked at the package… He moved to open it. “What might the gift be and who is the gift giver?” He looked at the young ensign. “Its not common for ensigns to gift superior officers… might be viewed as a bribe.” Marius looked at her with a raised eyebrow.

“Marishka,” Riley answered for Mary who he could tell wanted her duty in this to be finished. “No worry of a bribe there.”

There was a wistfulness in the Counselor’s voice. Marishka had been a friend and her departure after Julien’s had been difficult.

Mary didn’t do very well in crowds but was learning to overcome that but she couldn’t overcome the early shift she had tomorrow.

With her third drink in hand, Sage found a place towards the edge of the group where she was out of the direct line of traffic to and from the bar. Her usual activity at an event was subdued, but she didn’t think anyone would really notice except, perhaps, her husband. She couldn’t get the conversation she’d had with Riley and David out of her mind where both of them had said she needed to do what was right for her—no matter what it was. Looking around at all the familiar faces, Sage knew she would miss her friends on the Genny very much if she left it for another post. What to do…?

Just then, her ears tuned to a voice she didn’t recognize. With a slight turn of her head, she saw Cmdr Petursson only a few feet away.

OOC: Pasting in Dagen/Reia in case it got lost in the mix, Catt :) .. Gene

Reia was surprised he had such an interesting answer, Yes, he is definitely a joined Trill. she thought and wondered how many hosts Thor had had.

“Some people never wake up from their nightmares even when they’re awake. It’s not a good place to be which is why I prefer not to remember either way. Dream, nightmare, as long as I sleep.”

Reia
“Dreams are fleeting though,” Dagen thought aloud. “How many do we really remember once we wake, unless one trains oneself to? Same thing with nightmares. There are only a rare few which may yet haunt one in the day.” He could remember some himself. “But it is the daytime dreams that persist because they are the ones calling us to risk them. They are borne out of who we are inside.” His free hand touched his chest, though it was more a spot between heart and where the sac was that held Thor. “Night dreams are often just … pizza.” He smiled. “What is your dream, your aspiration?” That seemed a safe question. For Starfleet that tended to be their ‘dream’, an opening question a department head would spring on them, or a counselor to gauge someone.
- Dagen

OOC: Thanks, I think it did get lost.

IC: Reia looked at Dagen in surprise.

“Pizza? Um what? I don’t know, I never thought about it. I guess I have several dreams. Some are professional and some are personal. I guess my dream, being new here, is just to do my job well and not spill coffee on the XO’s shoes.”

She paused and laughed.

Dagen laughed too. It was an easy laugh borne of both what he was drinking and of his own temperament. “We had a group back at the Academy. An ad hoc study group.” He held up his fingers to put quotes around that. “Mainly we plotted practical jokes on one another. I had set up the transporter to tag one of the people in class. He was scheduled to be the first out on a trial of beaming into a zero gravity environment .. missing his uniform.” Dagen swirled the drink in his glass, looking at it move. “Would have been great had not our Vulcan professor decided to ‘show’ us how it should irk in demonstration.” He chuckled. “Spilling coffee .. amateur.” He winked at her to say that he was saying that in jest.

“It’s a long story. Perhaps I’ll tell it to you someday. I’m guessing you have a lot of dreams too.” she finished.

  • Reia

“I’d be happy to hear,” Dagen replied. His gaze went off into the distance. Idly he noticed a larger group forming amongst the senior officers but had himself no desire to join them. “Have. Had. They can lead a body to the strangest places. Places where one never thought one would be. Or do. I’ve been trying to get my career back on track. You could say that for an engineer to be able to look at and hold something that they have made is a kind of dream come true.” He gestured with the hand that held the glass, moving it about and in an upward motion. “The last two years I was the principal engineer in charge of elements of this ship being built. So you could say I’m traveling in one dream come true. But also there are dreams of rebuilding my career that I let lapse. And others, like you, that build on the personal.” His brow furrowed. “They can be the most elusive of all.”

XO

Ben noticed Calvin and Riley together and he sucked up the courage to join his fellow bridge crew. Ben held Tigress’s hand ” I’m gonna join the Counselor and the Captain. I’d like you to join me. Also if it gets too much for you gently squeeze my hand. ” Ben smiled as he waited for her answer.

Park

“ I just hope he is not like Captain King let’s go” she said smiling and shaking her head” she followed him to John the Captain and counselor.
Ensign Tigress

“I assure you he’s not like Captain King. He’s been my Security Chief for a long time before he was our Executive Officer. I see nothing like Captain King in him.” After a short walk they got to the destination to where Riley and the Captain was. Looking at the Captain “mind if we join you Sir?”

Park

“It is a party Lieutenant. The more the merrier.” They were a couple that he actually foresaw happening way back when they fought the last of the Husnock the race that destroyed the last Genesis. They had battled in the water reclamation plant… planet side. An odd, but still cute couple.

Riley greeted the couple. He took a modicum of credit for facilitating their relationship. Sure, he played a side part, but he was glad to see them in public, together. It was a big step.

Mary stepped out of Ben and Tigress’ way but still stayed close to the Captain and Riley.

The bottle Riley was examining was Wolfbuprn Highlands 2330 from the last known batch made. It was pale yellow and had a smokey finish. There was a not enclosed for Captain Marius.

  • NE Mary

“Oh my, where are these bottles coming from. I haven’t had such a selection since the last time I was on Earth.” He half laughed. “It was my wedding day.”

“It might find it’s way into my cabinet if you don’t hide it,” Riley joked as he turned the bottle over. He was joking of course. Marius was a big man, much bigger than Riley, and could pry the bottle from him in a second if Riley tried to keep it. Instead he handed it over.

As Riley handed the bottle over, the attached note slipped off and into Calvin’s hand. It read simply, ‘Congratulations Sir. May you have a less complicated relationship with my replacement than I fear you and I would have had.’. It wasn’t signed, but it was obvious who it was from.

For appearances sake, Sage made her way over to the small group that was growing larger by the minute. As she sidled up next to Calvin, she slipped her arm around his waist as if everything was hunky dory between them. “This is quite the turnout, don’t you think?” Although the party wasn’t really for the Captain, she knew Riley well enough to know that he had more than one goal when he planned it. “I haven’t met the new XO yet but he is getting favorable reactions around the room so far.”

—Sage

“Serendipitous,” He looked down at Sage as she put her arm around him. “I was just commenting on the fact that the last time I saw so may whiskeys I was back on Earth on our wedding day.” He had a slight smile that he forced wider. His mood was more somber than it should be when recalling their wedding and much like Sage he didn’t want everyone to know how he was feeling.

He leaned in and whispered in her ear, “I love you.” That was the bottom line in all of it. At least to him. The rest he could work through as long as he loved her… and he did. Even when he didn’t want to.

Marius

His words drew a small, private, smile from Sage. In response, the hand at his waist squeezed his side to let him know she felt the same way about him. Their feelings for each other might not be enough to see them through their current situation, but for just a moment, she allowed herself to just be his wife and to bask in their emotional attachment.

(just pasting in Chan and the XO’s conversation it’s been cut out. Nathan)

“I don’t mind, always had a fondness for children myself.” Magnus answered “She’s a beauty that’s for certain with a very dedicated crew. I’m lucky to have been assigned here that’s for certain.”

Chan nodded “She is a good ship. Study and strong. I should know i was the CE for a while, i could crawl through this ships Jeffires tubes blindfolded, even today.” She said she wasn’t good at making conversations but she was trying.

The Icelander nodded with interest.

“We’re all lucky to have such a varied but strong crew. people to help us when we need it. this ship’s crew where the first people i had met who did not treat me differently because of my so called ‘high born status’. None judges anyone from first impression here. It’s a refreshing change. SO many of us become judges as soon as we see someone. we make decision on who that person will be like and whether or not we want to talk to them. Most judge wrong and miss out on a potential Allie or friend. Not here though each person judge the other on there action and talking to them. Not on first impression. Even if some are very cautious around other people.” she said pointing to tigress her body language showing how cautious she was being.

“Or in trading ideals and our thoughts on larger, more cerebral topics” she said pointing to the Dagen and Reia “And of course we have our counselor flowing around the room helping everyone, making everyone comfortable. A duty he preforms every single day looking out for everyone. Some on first impression would judge this crew to be to conflicting with each other ideals. That’s not the case our differences help us out and make this crew as good as it is. I’m sure you’ll fit rght in and make us even stronger.” Chan said simply but warmly

“Sorry i went off on a tangent there” she added after a short pause.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

Magnus chuckled “No problem lieutenant, gushing over your crew and friends is to be expected.” He looked around the room “I’ve never served on a Scientifically focused ship before, I suspect I’ll need to brush up on several academy subjects before long” He said with a smile “But I have no doubt it’ll be great.”

XO
“Well if you need help with robotics and cybernetics. I’m happy to help just come down to the robotics lab and I’ll do what i can. After all i have something i think you might be interesting on seeing. It’s a project I’ve been working on for years.” she said kindly. Chan liked the new XO he seemed to be willing ti listen and learn, which was always good.

Lieut Chan (Sub DH robotics)

Riley flashed Sage a smile, happy to see her join Marius. He felt a moment of guilt that he was about to abandon their little quintet, but he knew he’d be doing her a favor by drawing the room’s attention to himself. All the easier for her to exist with Marius for a minute, silently or not.

“I have one last duty as host to attend to. If you’ll excuse me,” Riley pardoned himself as he backed away from their group and moved toward the center of the room tapping a butter knife against his glass to gain attention.

“Apologies, truly, for interrupting everyone’s conversation, but you didn’t think I was done with you yet did you? Don’t worry, I won’t be long, but I can’t promise anything for the man I’m about to introduce. We all know the crew of the Genesis likes a good party and my duty tonight is to introduce you to the man whose arrival was our convenient excuse for throwing this one tonight,” Riley’s words were crisp, but he had obviously loosened up after the whiskey he’d shared with the Captain. “A few of you have met our new XO since he’s come aboard, others may have talked with him tonight. As befits the Genny, our new XO comes to us with a record of experience, and he’s not bad on the eyes. Let’s all give three cheers for the newest member of our family, Commander Magnus Petursson.”

Dekker, CNS

Sage and Calvin turned, still holding onto each other, to look for the officer who’d just been announced.

—Sage

Ben whispered to Sage “if you want I can cut him off as a security measure” motioning to Calvin

Park

Tigress sneakered at Ben’s comment. She smiled at him. ” please try not to create trouble ” she said with a smile.
Ensign Tigress

Sage looked at Ben. “What are you talking about? Why would I want you to cut him off?” She didn’t understand what the security officer was inferring from his comment. Why would he think she might want him to interfere with the XO on her behalf?
