NE Bat arrived, his stride quick and, to many, looking like a strut but it had always been his gait, looking more like a rolling wave onto a shore than anything. The Bolian was stocky and looked like he was going to burst out of his tunic, but, somehow, it held. Over one shoulder he carried a standard engineering satchel and his belt was brimming with away team items. Best safe than sorry he always said … to anyone and everyone who would listen. Or not.

Seeing no one yet that looked like himself - an away team brat - he moved over to the nearest technician that he could see and engaged him in a conversation. One sided for the most part, ever looking about for anyone else in his ‘team’. As his head swiveled, his ears, which were large and tall and looked like small radar dishes (hence the nickname Bat) appeared to be ‘scanning’ the bay.

Magnus arrived with Ensign Tigress a moment later joined by a young Security Ensign. “Now, this is a simple recovery mission. Ensign Tigress do you have any flight training?” He asked the young Caitian.

XO

“ the basics but Iv not flown sence the academy. I’m not shure I remember the controls sir” Tigress said nervously. Her ears turned backwards but did not flatten against her head he tail stoped moving it was unusual for the young Caitian.
Ensign Tigress

Magnus turned and smiled reassuringly at the young woman “Relax Ensign, I just need a copilot” He waved at the Engineer “You just need to read sensors and help plot the course, it’ll be a good refresher” He nodded to NE Bats “You’re my Engineer then?” He asked without stopping.

XO

“I am sir, and if I might say, a very good choice was made. My dissertation was in impulse and warp sequencing in shuttles. When I was a young Bolian I was fascinated by how Commander Spock of a century had converted a impulse only shuttle into a warp capable craft. He was very crafty, that Vulcan. It does get the creative juices going, don’t you think? I mean, just how he did that. That is an elective class in the Academy. Did you know that, Commander? Try to reverse engineer what Spock did with the technology of the time?” He took a breath as he took a step in behind the Commander and boarded.

Tigress reluctantly followed the XO to the co-pilots spot. Her ears laid backwards agents her head and her tail twitched, she was not thrilled about something. She had learned when not to say anything. Tigress did not trust Magnus he would have to earn that. She watched him carefully as the away team got settled. The others on the team did not have her trust either but they were not as potentially dangerous as the XO.

Ensign Tigress

OOC: sorry Magnus but Tigress is going to test you. It’s part of her personality she very careful and does not trust easily.
Christina Crafford

Unfortunately Bot was distracted by start up sequencing and paused in his discourse. He had so much to say about this story and the engineering around it. He just hoped the Commander had as good ears as he did. “Engines and life support on line and at optimal levels,” he reported helpfully despite all that knowledge being at the pilot controls. But Bot was helpful. Sometimes .. too helpful.
- NE Bot, Eng

OOC: Would a shuttle be enough? It would take about a week to travel using a shuttle’s low warp to reach the Pallasian probe. A runabout with warp 5 can retrieve the probe in 8 hours.

Kenson

OOC: I had thought to take the Liberty Runabout still on the ship, both for speed and size. I won’t be back posting til after the weekend. I probably forgot to specify.
Hjörtur

OOC: Bumping .. just in case .. Gene

OOC: I know I am sounding impatient. I was hoping for this away team to get clearance to go and then I will start posting on this thread IC.

GM

OOC: Apologies, I forgot to respond here. I’ll just get us moving for sanities sake.
- Hjörtur
IC:

After pre-flight was done Magnus informed flight control that the Runabout would be lifting off. A moment later the Craft lifted up and exited the Shuttlebay “Alright, let’s plot a course to the object and get a timeline before jumping to warp. Let’s also try not to startle our friends here. We’re just a research vessel doing some checkups.” He smiled at his motley crew.

XO

OOC: I will be away for a week. (LOA) Please do fill in the in between spaces before and after what I have posted. Thanks!!

IC:

Bot was bored. The runabout was running well. The crew there seemed uninterested in talking (aka listening to the Bolian run on and on). However, he was interested in the up and coming asteroid field. “Sirs,” he said, breaking his silence that had lasted an interminable four minutes now. “Sensors show not just one rogue asteroid that snagged their probe but a small asteroid field. Many more targets. Fascinating though, isn’t it? An asteroid belt this far out and nowhere for it to just be. Where did it come from? And all together? Such a navigational hazard for anyone traveling at warp to stumble over.”
- Bot, Chatty engineer

“Yes rather fascinating indeed,” Magnus said without turning around “Is there a possibility that it isn’t a natural occurrence” He directed his question to his Scientist Copilot “I don’t remember seeing something like this before.”
XO

The trip was finally over after about 8 hours. They had reached a small asteroid field.

Initial sensors showed the debris of the drone. Sensors indicate that the drone was probably struck by a meteorite at a crucial place and it lost its bearing and crashed on one of the larger asteroids. It was possible to retrieve the debris without too much problems.

GM

Tigress thought for a moment. Her hands moved slightly as if she were righting or reading something in the air. ”What if…” she trailed off the stated to tap commands into her consul trying to get the dancers to get a full scan of the solar system. It was essential to know the layout of the system and see where the asteroids were in relation to everything else. She did not think the reality was a natural one but like any good scientist she needed to rule out the idea that it could be natural. ” do we know what the Astros are composed of” she asked finally speaking to the others in the roundabout.
Ensign Tigress

According to the scans and analysis by the computer, the asteroids were natural at a probability of 99%.

GM

Tigress growled in frustration. She stood up abruptly and started to pace in the small space. Then sat back -/- computer what are the Astorydes made of and where are the in relation to the sun.-/-. She then turned to the Commander. The computer is claiming the feald is most likely natural though to have asteroids close enough to hit and bring down three probes is unlikely. I don’t think this is natural if the computer would give me the information I asked it for I would be able to make a better determination.” She said.
Ensign Tigress

Magnus gave the ensign a curt nod “Alright, continue the scans whilst we go probe-hunting” He swiveled in his chair to face Bot “Prepare the transporter to pick up the debris” He stood up, stretching his legs for the first time for almost an hour. He’d forgotten how dreadfully boring runabout missions could be. =^=Computer start a broad spectrum scan of the debris and prepare it for transporting and catlouging.=^= He said looking at the small transporter area.

XO

Bot nodded and replied, “Aye, sir.” This was followed by a monologue about how technical this operation could be and that even though it looked an easy process to just transport things in that there were spatial requirements to consider, mass, temperature consideration of metal at absolute zero being suddenly beamed into a space that was pressurized and warm and so on. In the midst of that, he said to Tigress, “We’re a light year out from any system. This isn’t tied to any of the stars. This is likely just rogue field that one sees now and again.”

He paused in what might have been a longer monologue to say, “Containment field established and ready to transport. It will be tight with the space but we can fit it.”
- Bot

“ sir there’s no way the feald is nationally this close together where is the center of gravity holding this thing together.” Tigress said shaking her head. “ perhaps there is a black dwarf near by but are scanners would have found it not to mention the odds of that many probes being hit. It does not add up.” She added.
Ensign Tigress

OOC: I don’t how Star Trek astronomy works but in the real world astride fealds need a center of gravity to form and they usually form in souled systems. Can someone explain how we have an Astro I’d feald that Is descents enff to bring down three probes with no center of gravity. Also how are there not planets forming in this Asteroid feald. If the asteroids are close enough to hit three probs consecutively there close enough to start forming plants. Some please point me in the right direction because there are clearly some different rules in Star track astronomy that I’m missing.
Christina

OOC: The problem with the Pallasian probes were that they were using normal radio communications rather than subspace. I had mentioned in another post that as the probe went further, the data to and fro took longer and longer each time. The last contacts they had had from their probes were around the asteroid belt. In the last probe’s case, they had detected the nearing of an asteroid. They had tried and failed to steer the probe away from the gravitational field of the asteroid in question. Furthermore, it was not established that the probes were all destroyed by the asteroid belt. It was only surmised because they had lost contact with the probes at the same region of space. The asteroids are not close enough to form planets.

OOC: ok I got it now I definitely most have missed something in the previous post.

IC: Their sensors did not detect any more debris. However, there was a very faint warp trail leading deeper into the unexplored part of the Alpha Quadrant.

However the transport of the discovered probe would be successful.

GM

Tigress had long seance turned back to her console “ oh commander I missed some information. My apologies this not exactly my feald of study” she admitted quietly laughing at her self before turning her attention to the probe That was now onboard the ship.
Ensign Tigress

Bot, ever so helpful (sometimes NOT!) chimed in, “Maybe it is that there was sufficient mass here for the asteroids to remain together gravitationally with one another and a stable enough rotation to keep them from clustering?” A beep came up on the console he was looking at . “Transport complete. Oh, and I’m seeing a warp trail. Weak. Low power or decay through time on an arc farther into unexplored space. If it is one of their probes still, and if it is on a straight course, and given the time frame we might be able to focus a sensor beam along that line to detect it.”
- Bot, Eng

Magnus gave the engineer an odd look “These people have nuclear-powered vessels that take years to travel to the nearest system, I was under the impression they hadn’t yet mastered Warp Technology?” He asked turning back to the device “But in any case, let’s get a read on that signature, these people have seemingly never contacted another warp capable group. Ms Tigress, if you could work some Science scanning magic whilst our talkative friend goes through our space trash” Magnus said with a half smile as he looked at the two officers.
