“You are free to inspect anywhere on the planet to see if we have satisfied the third requirement,” said Neve. “In the area of the second, we have established faster than light travel. What’s left is the first: Do we have a sufficiently advanced level of scientific technology?”

GM

“We can provide a preliminary report to the Federation of the level of technology we observe. We are not equipped to make the determination ourselves. As for your social structure, perhaps a visit to one of your cities would help us gain a broader understanding of your society. If you wouldn’t object, I think our team would be interested in walking among your citizens. Perhaps a public space? A park or a market?”

Dekker, CNS

“That can be arranged. As you are the first from outside Pallas to come, I cannot predict the reaction in a public place,” remarked Neve. “My greatest concern is for your safety as I have already mentioned that there are some who are not welcoming of people who are different. There are those who will be curious, those who would be afraid. I gather that you would probably like the walk through with as little preparation as possible?”

GM

Chan listened to the people in the room “That i why we brought are own security officers. We are all trained to keep each other safe. However if we where to go with a guide, such as yourself or one of the others in the room. the public will probably be more receiving. Seeing their leaders talk and give a tour to outsiders they know nothing about, Will help to alleviate their concerns if they see their leader are safe, they will moist likely feel safer and more conformable around us. Beside the first sign of trouble and we can just fall back to here.” She said trying to think of solution that would keep every one happy. the last thing she wanted was a riot because they where outsiders or something.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

“That is reasonable,” said Bassa, who looked to Neve who gave a slight nod.

“Then we will make the arrangements now,” said Bassa.

GM

OOC: I’m really sorry for lagging behind. The whole month of May is a challenge for me. I’m in the process of cleaning out my sister’s house to make room for my mom and me, then we are moving across town. Situations change—I’m just trying to roll with the punches.

IC:
Sage thought a tour of a populated area was a good idea. Seeing how the Pallasians reacted to the Star Fleet crew would undoubtedly reveal a more honest cross section of the populace and might be a factor in acceptance into the federation.

“If you think a few of your own guards would ease the temperament of your people, we have no objections to them joining us.” It was an olive branch that didn’t cost a thing. If the Pallasian crowds got out of hand, she was sure the weapons they’d brought down with them would turn the situation in their favor.

—Sage

David had been biting his tongue, and Riley would be able to sense his unease. But he was committed to the mission and seeing things through, so for now he would play along. But he would most definitely be keeping his eyes and ears open for anything out of the ordinary,

-David Michaels, CSO

“Very good,” said Neve, “Mr. Bassa, please arrange for our guests to mingle with our people.”

“Where?” asked Bassa.

“We’ll bring our guests in our train transport and whichever stop the guests dictate, we will stop and let them mingle,” suggested Neve.

“Very good, sir” said Bassa.

Some time later, the away team were escorted to a small road vehicle that would bring them to the train station.

GM

As they were escorted from the conference room to the transport vehicle, Riley fell back, the away team following suit. He pitched his voice low enough to avoid eavesdropping.

“I’m sure I don’t have to say this, but for the record any altercations with civilians would be highly problematic. At the first sign of trouble we alert our Pallasian hosts and let them handle it. Our weapons stayed holstered unless you or a member of our team are in imminent harm. Despite our misgivings we are still guests of a people who have treated us well and scared civilians do not change that fact.”

The Counselor knew he was taking a risk by asking to mingle among the people, but he was sure he could gain a less guarded sense of their situation from strangers than their official delegation.

He tapped his commbadge =/\=Away Team One to the Genesis. We are moving into a public space with our hosts to gain a better understanding of their culture. Their ultimate goal seems to be stronger ties with the Federation, including technological exchange, perhaps to the point of application for admission. We are continuing our fact finding mission.=/\=

The train took several minutes to reach the first station from where they had left. It was the outskirts of the city of Lash. Neve said, “We stop here for about two minutes. We are in a special car but the cars in front are filled with our people.”

From the window, the away team saw that many who alighted were similar to the farmers that were observed in their own planets. There were also many who were boarding. Nothing seemed to be staged.

GM

Sage had a lot on her mind, but tried to stay focused on the mission. She was happy to be away from the bargaining table and out in the city. They were only on their first stop, but everything looked copacetic so far. Moving closer to Riley, she spoke in a hushed tone. “You aren’t feeling anything out of the ordinary about the Pallasians or I’m guessing you would have said something already. What do you think their chances are for joining the Federation?”

—Sage

Riley took in his surroundings, curiously soaking up details of the Pallasians’ world. He was tempted to get off at this stop, eager to mingle among the people, but he thought it best to see more before choosing to exit the train. He leaned in toward Sage.

“They have an eagerness to them that is both understandable and cause for concern. I haven’t sensed anything threatening, but denying a people something they desperately seek can lead them to act in extreme ways. That’s my main worry. As for membership in the Federation, I don’t know. A unified world has a leg up, but their level of technology is so rudimentary.”

Dekker, CNS

“Mmm hmmm. I’m picking up an almost desperate desire to please. Perhaps the situation they spoke about with pirates is worse than they let on? Aside from the radiation they are exposed to living here, maybe there’s something more immediately threatening…” She glanced over to Neve and Bassa. “I can’t shake the feeling they aren’t being totally honest with us.”

Here, she shrugged. “If you aren’t sensing anything though, it could just be my current frame of mind, I guess.”

—Sage

“It isn’t only you. David’s been on edge from the moment he heard about the Pallasians. There has to be something more than we’re seeing. They’re own telepathic abilities could be blocking mine in a way I can’t discern. I’d rather you stay in your current frame of mind,” Riley gave her wan smile as they felt the transport decelerate. “Here we go.”

David flashed Riley a stern look. He wasn’t too keen on his thoughts of doubt and feelings of uneasiness being vocalized. Not that he thought either Sage or Chan hadn’t picked up on it yet. He just preferred to keep such things to himself.

Hearing that David was also suspect of the Pallasians somehow made Sage feel better. It would have been very unprofessional if she’d allowed her personal issues at home with Calvin to interfere with her ability to act appropriately on a mission—especially, a first contact mission.

Wondering if the man from the future would open up a bit about what he either knew or was feeling, the Lt made her way over to where he was standing. “I was just talking with Riley, telling him that I just can’t shake the feeling they’re,” here she looked over at the group of Pallasians not too far away. “That they’re keeping something important from us—something that would affect our decision to help them. He mentioned you were on edge too. Care to share?”

—Sage

David sighed. “I shouldn’t say. I just don’t trust these people.” He folded his arms across his chest.

OOC: I will be away for a week. Please fill up the gaps in the narrative below. I hope it is enough to keep the crew occupied and interested for a week.

IC:

They had reached their destination and as they stepped out, the expressions on the faces of the people around them told them that this was not a staged thing. Some were curious, some averted their gaze, and some came closer to look at the ‘aliens’.

However, there were a significant number of people who recognised the security men and guessed that this was a government tour of some sort. They kept their distance and tried hard not to appear afraid. Whatever it was, it was evident that the people where they were did not expect a visit from their off world visitors.

GM

As he stepped off the transport, Riley tried to imagine how humans several centuries earlier would have felt should unfamiliar aliens all of a sudden come amongst them. Curiosity and fear. Those were the two emotions that dominated the populace closest to them. Anger? For a moment he felt its tendrils nip at his mind, but he couldn’t locate it’s source and then it was gone. Was it only his imagination? He wasn’t sure.

Riley turned to his team, “Remember, we’re visitors. Observe, interact, but at the slightest hint of resistance from a civilian, retreat. This is their world, not ours.”

Dekker, CNS

OOC: Remember the aliens have the look of Harry Potter’s ‘the one who cannot be named’ :)

IC: There was an elderly lady who stopped and looked at the noses of the ‘alien’ visitors. “What good does that thing do?” she asked. Several passers by looked embarrassed when she asked the question.

GM

David heard her question and glanced over at Sage, who was closest to him. As the doctor, he would let her field this question.

-David Michaels, CSO

Sage gave the woman a bright smile, hoping it would ease any negative feelings the Pallasian might be feeling towards them. “Its how we breathe and smell.” She looked around at the other officers with her. “How do your people breathe?” It wasn’t mean to spark any adverse reaction, just open up a conversation. But anything was possible.

—Sage

Chan had just got off the train when the women had made the comment. If they thought that Having a nose was odd how would they react seeing Chan. A blue women with sliver hear and antenna. She knew it would probably cause a riot. She had, had that feeling in the conference room. she was so alien to everyone here aside for her crew of course. Chan stood next to the others wondering how this was going to pan out.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

“We know how our food is going to taste the moment our fingers are near,” said the old lady. “I guess you’ll only find that out when you have already picked them up.”

Then she saw Chan. “What do those things do?” she asked pointing to the antennae.

GM

Chan looked up “Oh those.” she said “They do many things. They give me greater spatial awareness, improve my hearing, Balance and show emotion. they also act as a redundant system. If i lost an eye i would still be able to ‘see’ rather well. Just not in the normal sense” She said trying to best explain what her Antenna did. However it was hard, they did so many other things. However Chan felt she had got the mot important things listed.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

Riley silently observed the woman’s interaction with the away team. Her bold and open curiosity was positive. It was better the people see that they were open to talking and learning and were not objects of fear. Even Chan was shelving her usually gruff self so as not to put off their questioner. Riley had moved closer to David.

“They seem harmless,” he pitched his voice low.

Dekker, CNS

“Everything is not always as it seems,” David said solemnly.

At first, when the woman was speaking, some of the other people retreated a little, fearing what the ‘aliens’ might do. When Chan and Sage started speaking politely, they eased a little. One by one, they got a little bolder and stepped forward to speak to the team.

“Where do you come from?”
“Is it very far from our planet?”
“Is your home planet similar to ours?”
“Are you passing by or looking for somewhere to stay?”

GM

Chan put her hands up in a calming manner “OK. OK. Ladies and gentleman please calm down. We will answer what we can” Chan said calmly and confidently.

“where do we come form? well in a broad terms we come form the united federation of planets. To be more specific i come from a planet called Andoria my fellow officers come form a planet called earth. the federation is made up of loads of planets. so narrowing it down is difficult” she said looking at the person who asked the question.

She then looked at the next person “yes we have come a long way”she said answering the question.

“Mine is not. Mine is a world full of ice. However there are many planets that are similar to yours”. She replied. Chan hoped she wasn’t over stepping her bounds. However she felt if she could clam the crows then things shouldn’t get out of hand.

“We’re not here to stay we are just passing through and have some business to attend to” she said answering the final question.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

When Chan finished her answers, the crowd murmured and as their universal translators were still trying to make sense of the Pallasian language, The team could not make any significant meaning behind the murmurings.

GM

David watched and listened as Chan was answering the questions of the locals. Better her than him to be playing the role of friendly ambassador. His mind was not set any more at ease by the fact that the translator couldn’t make out the murmurings and whisperings.

-David Michaels, CSO

Chan looked back at the away team. She didn’t know what the locals where saying she hoped they where just conversing about her answers. However her warrior training was starting to kick in. she was keeping her eyes on the crowd and the way team. She felt like something was off.

=^=Away team, see if you can get any information on their colony and the moon around it. We’ve picked up some ships there and want to know how much they know about them.=^=

Marius CO

And there it was. Chan thought. it wasn’t;t her place to answer the hail that was up to the others.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

=^=Away team, I’m going to move the Genesis off to take a peek at the colony. That will pull out out of transporter range. Don’t get yourself in to too much trouble while we are away.=^=

Marius.

=/\=Acknowledged, Genesis. We’re just meeting the locals.=/\=

Riley had been impressed with Chan’s interaction with the locals. Her usual defensiveness was nowhere to be seen, and yet her words were measured. It caused no harm to satisfy a bit of the locals curiosity, in fact it probably went a good ways to easing their anxiety as their curiosity was greeted with information, even if mostly vague.

Riley approached the old woman who had struck up the conversation, “My name is Riley Dekker. As my friend here said, I come from a planet called Earth. It seems like yours in a lot of ways. We have one moon, as you do, and it was the first place we colonized off of our planet. I understand your world achieved something similar?”

She wasn’t a scientist, not that he knew, but he was curious to hear what the popular thought was, not the government line.

Dekker, CNS
