There seemed to be a slight pause and light banter after the Counselor’s introduction to the new XO. Dagen had listened and the conversation with Reia appeared to have fallen totally flat. Ah well, some things do. Moving away and closer to better hear Dekker’s introduction, the Trill drained his glass and set it down. He wondered if the XO would speak or whether, as some of the whispered banter suggested, they might playfully ‘shut things down’, he cleared his throat and started the cheet.

Lifting his voice, he said, “To the Commander! Hip hip, hurrah!!!” He lifted his hand in a fist and his voice at the end to urge others to join in.
- Dagen, CE

OOC: I’m honestly not sure how this insert David in here so let’s just assume he’s been here the entire time, mingling and talking.

IC:
David suddenly appeared at Dagen’s side, cheering. He then handed the man a full glass. “Cheers.” David raises his own glass, toasting his comrade. They hadn’t had much chance to interact lately but had always been friendly.

-David Michaels, CSO

Suddenly David was there with a glass. Taking it he glanced at what it was before raising it to clink to his. “Know anything about our new XO?” he asked, studying whether David’s exuberance was natural now or ‘assisted’ by a drink or three. His eyes scanned about the room to see who was where and whether the XO was now going to deliver any kind of speech/rebuttal/words. His eyes noted Reia but she was hard to read.
- Dagen, CE

Reia had watched Dagen move away and figured it had happened again. She had said something stupid or her Orion pheromones had gotten in the way and made him feel totally uncomfortable. She thought about leaving or, perhaps, trying alcohol, but that wasn’t her style just because someone else had walked away from her. When it happened on assignment it was easy to put aside, but this was going to be her home.

  • Reia, CIO

OOC: Sorry, you were replying with your NE Mary and skipping over mine so thought I was boring you to death, which, I likely was … Gene

Marius

OOC: Or I missed a reply again. Not bored at all.

  • Catt

Magnus smiled at the group as they emphatically cheered him on, he raised his hands in gratitude indicating that he was going to speak for a moment “Thank you all for the warm welcome, some I’ve been fortunate enough to introduce myself to formally others have met me through work” He said giving the counselor a friendly nod “Others might even know me or know of me from way back when. In any case, I do look forward to working with all of you out here on the edge of known space as we explore the final frontier together. My office is always open for those who need anything, I like to think that after more than twenty years of this life I’ve learned a thing or two. So unless anyone has any questions I think it’s time to get this party going.” The Icelander raised a glass, saluting his new crewmates.

Dagen took a sip of that drink. These gatherings were always different from what he grew up with. Family gatherings. Friends. For whatever reason they always were loud, chaotic, full of cheers and laughs and a decided lack of ‘care’. Carefree. That was it. Once he was in Starfleet things became much more serious. Gatherings less carefree and more conversational and ‘mature’. A twinkle in his eye brought back some of that.

“Commander Petursson !” He called out, lifting his voice over the others. “We don’t know you and we should know you better. Let’s see how well we might guess. Gives us ‘Two Truths and a Lie’ about yourself. When you are caught out you can choose the next person for their turn!”

His eyes strayed over to Reia who had an expression he had a hard time reading. “Reia,” he said loud enough for her to hear, and gestured to her. “Come here. I need your intelligence to guess here.” He was smiling, encouraging her to come over.
- Dagen, CE

Reia signaled for another glass of her fancy water as she made her way towards Dagen.

This could be fun. she thought.

“Hmmm. I’ll do my best.” she said cheerily.

  • Reia, CIO

Dagen smiled. He’d not felt quite this way for years. It felt good. He used to be a prankster; perhaps that is coming back some. A restoration of sorts. Or was he just a tad tipsy and that was getting the better of him. “It’s a challenge in not knowing the person at all. Let’s see.” he turned his focus back to Magnus. Would he take it up or would he be scrubbing plasma tubes for the next month?

Magnus cocked his head slightly then moved to the side “Well alright I’ll play your game chief, but there must be a catch” He grabbed the green bottle he’d brought with him “A wrong answer equals one drink of my Black Death” He said with an amused smile. He seemed more than happy to play this game, a good way to build camaraderie with such a close-knit group “Well my three facts are thus, I failed temporal physics on my second year at the Academy, I’ve never been to Risa and there is currently a 10 latinum brick bounty out there for my capture” The slightly Scandinavian accent assisted Magnus in telling his two truths and a lie more convincingly. “Well, Lieutenant, Ensign? What sort of man am I” He said as he calmly poured some clear liquid into a shot glass.

XO

Dagen had never heard of that kind of drink. It sounded like the classic version of rot gut that every culture seemed to have. He wondered if the drink was in lines with old Earth naval terms of ‘wet your whistle, sip or gulp’ .. each of which was less than any traditional ‘shot’. “Agreed!” he said with a smile, then turned to Reia and David. “How bad can it be?” he said in a low voice. He turned to confer with them. “My guess is that he’s lying about Risa. Anyone with ‘black death’ and a bounty had to have been to Risa. Your thoughts?”

“ I have an idea” Tigress said watching the man she did not think he could have a bounty on just head.
Ensign Tigress

“What’s that Tigress?” Dagen asked.
- Dagen, CE

“ did I say that out loud” she said looking at Ben. She then turned her attention back to degen. “ I’m sorry Lt. I do have an idea but I am not dumb enough to guess. The stakes of a wrong answer are a little to high for me alcohol positively burns my nose. I never intended to say that out loud I sorry for distracting you” she said politely with a smile.
Ensign Tigress

Dagen looked at her nose and tried to imagine that, though his attention went back to Reia.

Reia weighed her options carefully. She had studied the man and her reasoning was as follows…

It would be easy to look up his record and see if he failed temporal physics tor not. It would also be easy to find out if someone had, or hadn’t, been to Risa, especially if one was an intel officer like her. And ten latinum bricks was a terribly high bounty.

Now that he thought of it a brick was an immense amount. “2000 slips to a bar. Bricks are a lot more than that. I think I heard 10 bars but I could be wrong there.” He’d never seen one himself.

“Very impressive Commander. I think I’ll confer a bit but I have an idea.”

She turned to David and Dagen.

“The bounty sounds fishy to me. Do you know how many bars are in a brick of Latinum?” she asked.

OOC: I don’t think it ever been stated, but it’s damned high.

  • Reia

“You could be right. That is pretty huge. Bricks are more of a ‘vault’ style of thing and not something you’d tip the taxi driver with.” The more he thought about that the more he was sure that that was right. “I’ll go with that. That seems a highly improbable thing. Bars yes. Bricks would be a personal fortune.”
Dagen

Magnus stayed quiet, only smiling at their internal discussions. While he waited he poured a secondary shot for himself and downed it with ease “Tick-tock ladies and gents” He said in a sing-sony voice “Was I an Academic failure, resort avoider or a walking bank for the worthy bounty hunter?” He asked the group.

XO

“A walking bank for the worthy Bounty hunter” Ben replied. Returning the smile back to Tigress most affectionately.

Park

Tigress leaned over and whispered in ben’s ear. “ I believe that is the lie.”
Ensign Tigress

Still standing at Calvin’s side, Sage hoped for the last choice. Having a bounty hunter after you was the most exciting of the three choices, but it wasn’t something you would announce to a room full of strangers. Since she still hadn’t personally met the XO, Sage was just going with her ‘gut’.

Riley felt the warmth of a few drinks and as he listened to the crowd in his quarters debate which secret of the new XO’s was a guess he was happy to see the crew of the Genesis welcome the man, and to see the man engage with his new crewmates. He felt like he should have some insight. He’d read the XO’s file, met with him and his empathic abilities were usually quite good at picking out a falsity, but he wasn’t sure.

“I’ll make a claim,” he said, sounding more confident than he felt. “It’s Risa, isn’t it. It seems the most obvious truth, so I’ll bet it’s the lie.”

Dekker, CNS

Dagen nodded to the others. “I’ll take this one,” he said, winking at Reia to say that he was taking her logic over his. “Commander, I’d say that it’s the bounty. But if it’s true, after some of that Black Death it’s a bounty worthy of us to think of claiming and buying a moon somewhere with it.” He smiled as he said it, his tone light. Truly it was a huge bounty and one in which he would totally suspect that there would be someone trying to claim it. Deeg, Dagen thought, would love that sort of thing.
- Dagen, CE

Reia was wondering just what was in that black death and would she be doing something very stupid tonight. Either way, she had gotten her truths and lies in a row in case it came time for her.

Not really into the festivities, but attending because it was the right thing to do, Sage unhooked herself from Calvin and went to look over the finger foods that had been laid out. A day drinking too much coffee, followed by alcohol at the party, had made her stomach burn a bit. She stood their, glass in hand and scooped up some creamy cheese dip on a celery stick. It was crispy and the dip was creamy, pleasing her mouth and taste buds. “Mmmm…”

She followed the celery with a carrot stick, also dipped into the cheesy concoction. “I think I need the recipe for this…”
