=^= Tea, chai, hot =^= he ordered for himself Once everyone was set he took a sip and leaned back in the chair. Stiff, it didn’t yield much. “We’ll undoubtedly be called into a debriefing when we get back. What are your top observations and personal thoughts/feeling about our trip?” he asked, looking from one to the other, but lingering just a moment more on Reia.
- Dagen, CE

Reia had her hands wrapped around a cup of black coffee. The savory beverage on Palas had been sadly disappointing.

“I’d like to read through some of their literature, things that are not put out by the government. I have this wild idea of taking an unscheduled, unannounced, side trip. I want to know what the actual people are like because their figure heads seem far too orderly and a bit rehearsed if you ask me.

  • Reia, CIO

“Their best foot forward. Choreographed. I agree.” He inhaled the scent of the tea and thought. “You know, before the away mission we were able to get a lot of information from their web. It shouldn’t be more than a moment to access their libraries to see what they read.” He chuckled. “It’s too bad we don’t have standard issue cloaking suits aboard to do that walk about.” He looked over to the CSO. He was sure he’d have something revealing to say from his experience in that area.
- Dagen, CE

“Choreographed, but not as well as it could have been. I got the feeling we put them a little out of their comfort zone with that little lunch trip. It didn’t seemed planned, and the food there seemed the typical standarized industrial food you get in any mass-feeding operation. That’s contrary to Shou’s statements that they preferred home-made or at least someone-else’s-homemade and they don’t even have restaurants. If that’s the case, then who designed and operates that cafeteria? Why have it all if your workers are all going to bring lunch from home?”

COS

“I agree with you that that seems damned elaborate just to set up for us. I guess it does speak to their values. On some level it’s appearances before all. At least that’s the sense I’m getting.” Reia said finishing her coffee.

  • Reia, CIO

Dagen took a sip of his tea. “They did pretty good after the short time we gave them between us suddenly appearing and their having a tour arranged. Gotta give them that. It might be me but I wonder if we aren’t the first tour they’ve done.” He paused and swirled the tea while looking at the liquid moving around as he glanced at Reia. Her comment about it being too rehearsed fit in there too. He could totally be wrong, but in a one world system, who else would they tour around? “You have a point on that Tom. They did sound contradictory. We can access a lot of news,” he said glancing again at Reia. “But what will we see if the news was just government ordained. Unless we could dig out their archives to before and during their consolidation.”

“We almost certainly could, as long as the Captain lifts the restriction on not being noticed,” Thomas agreed.

“It looked to me like a very heavy handed government structure. As much as they say about the well being and idealism of the people, I wonder how they really hold up? There didn’t seem that much freedom of choice, despite the rags to riches story that we heard.” It wasn’t something that they were going to be the deciders on for whether they were candidates. That was for the diplomats to worry about and assess. All they could do was report their observations. He considered their work with their reactors and pollution controls. “They sure were keen to up their tech on their power plants.”
Dagen, CE

“Well I’m going to read the information Shue gave me. I’d love to figure out how to get into their main systems and ghost around a little bit.” Reia said setting her coffee cup aside.

  • Reia, CIO

Dagen grinned behind the cup. “Been there. Found that,” he said. “When we were on the Genny and nosing about in their newsfeeds and files there were more secure documents. Captain didn’t think we should risk detection by running a decrypt on them in the early stages of first contact. But from what I saw, they wouldn’t be that hard to get into with our tech.” He gave her a quick wink. “I’m sure a bright intel girl could worm her way in better than an engineer with a spanner.”

“Approaching Genny location. She’s not in orbit but a couple of planets away. Still a few minutes out,” called the pilot.

“They took a field trip?” Dagen mused. “Okay, thanks,” he said then opened a channel from the console. =^= Shuttle Team Two to Genesis. We are en route to your location after our planetary, ah, =^= He made a quick ‘face’ searching for the word. =^= survey. Request approach orders. =^=

“Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that,” Thomas said sheepishly. “They went to investigate the ‘colony.’“

Dagen, CE

COS

Had Reia just seen Dagen wink at her? Well why not? He was probably right.

“Oh that sounds like a lot of fun. I’ll get right on it as soon as we’re debriefed and everything.”

  • Reia, CIO

=^=You’re clear for an standard approach. Prep your report I suspect there are more things afoot then the natives wish to tell us.=^= Not that that was always an unacceptable thing. Every planet had secrets they wanted to keep to themselves. You don’t put your business on front street as his adoptive mother would say.

Marius

=^= Acknowledged =^= Dagen replied in the typical Starfleet nomenclature. Why couldn’t someone say ‘sure thing’ on such a reply? =^= We have been preparing a brief along the way back, Captain. Where shall we meet? =^= He tapped the pilot on the shoulder. “All yours. Bring us into the barn.” Turning to the others he said, “Almost home. It’s funny. We call a spaceship home and yet we have just been on a planet that is technically more home by nature of it being a planet. How ironic.”

To Reia he replied, “Yeah, I think we all have things we can look for once we get back. I’m sure the Captain will have no shortage of things for us to research once we have had that debrief.”
