As they moved, Deeg thought that this was an interesting meeting on an intel side if not on a diplomatic one. “The Pallasians, your home world, has made some interest in joining the federation of planets we belong to. It sounds like you may have something to say that would put things in perspective for our diplomats. By the sounds of it you’d like to torpedo that hope of theirs. I’d be happy to share this with our captain,” Deeg said.
- Deeg, NE Eng

“Share all you like!” the man growled. “Tell your diplomats that we won’t talk until we rule Pallas! The next time we see you in our neighbourhood, I will not hesitate to fire you all into pieces!”

The men who were trying to nudge the Starfleet officers seemed to be getting nervous.

GM

Ben noticed the nervousness of the men “why so nervous?”

Park

“Move!” one of the men whispered. This time, the man used the muzzle of his weapon and nudged him forward. The other man who was behind Deeg tapped his back with the nuzzle as well.

If the two Starfleet officers were to look forward to the third and fourth man ahead, they also looked anxious.

GM

Ben had thought about briefly of him and Deeg overpowering the men with the rifles, but decided against it due to the fact that there was no backup plan. Starfleet doesn’t allow for unnecessary risks to their officers. “Alright we’ll comply.”

Park

The men accompanied the two Starfleet officers to the edge of the clearing where the shuttle was.

“Please leave now,” one of the man said, motioning for the officers to leave in the shuttle.

GM

These aren’t the people you came to meet, Deeg thought. They want us gone. Fast. But they’re nervous about nothing. They can’t be phased by the political zeal of their erstwhile leader. Surely they were used to that rhetoric. Who were they then? One way to find out though. “Lets go,” he said to Park.
-Deeg

As the shuttle moved up into the sky, the four men seemed to melt into the forest. However, the sensors showed that they were moving into several underground routes.

GM

Ben scanning the area “they’re going through underground tunnels. Want me to follow them?”

Park

Even the man who had chased them off, the leader, had moved into the underground.

GM

“Lets hold here,” Deeg said, then considered. “Uh, maybe a bit lower along the treetops so we’re not target practice.” He leaned over to look out bu didn’t expect to see anyone. “I have a feeling that isn’t the people we wanted to meet. It just seemed wrong. Two totally different conversations. You think?” He asked.

“Lets see where they go. And scan about the mountain where the settlers were supposed to be. Anyone there?” Settling into the chair next to Ben he thought of what they said. “They want to overthrow the government but have no clue what to do then. Just that it would be right. Anarchists. Idealists. Four of them thinking they can do that. Gutsy anarchists. What I don’t get was who they thought we were. We’re out of the blue and they are talking like we’re from the next valley. They have cobbled together gear and they see this shuttle and don’t bat an eye.” He shook his head looking to Park for his thoughts.
- Deeg

“Aye Sir.” As Ben tapped a few buttons on the control panel, he guided the shuttle to hover just enough to cover the shuttle by the trees. “I think we met the wrong people Sir. Something about them doesn’t add up to me.”

Lt. (j.g.) Park

OOC: You’re ranking there :) .. Deeg is just ensign material unless he gets promoted

There were no other individuals nearby besides those in the base, which numbered about thirty. Sensors also indicated that there were some who were observing the shuttle as it was hovering.

GM

Deeg saw they were being watched. He pondered their next move. It was a bizarre thing and he nodded his agreement to Ben. “Unless you can think of more, I’m just not sure of what to do. We could sit here and see if anyone takes aim at us but otherwise we should report into the ship.”
- Deeg

OOC: Thanks Gene. I just got confused when I see your character as a full Lieutenant and my character a Lt j.g.

IC: Ben thinking over his options quickly “Deeg get me the Genesis.”

Park

As if the Genesis had read their mind the shuttles’ comms pinged =^=Genesis to Away team=^= The voice of NE Bridge sounded over the speakers =^=The Captain wanted to know if you have anything to report. We noticed that you’ve been hovering over some trees for a moment. Everything alright?=^= She asked.

NE Bridge

Before engaging the reply, Deeg said, “I suppose he wouldn’t want us talking about some botany samples?” Tapping the screen he replied, =^= Shuttle here, Captain. We’re just taking some sensor readings =^= He motioned to Park to continue with the report.
- Deeg

=^= Park to Genesis. Captain we were immediately confronted by a group of people. I personally don’t believe they were the ones that we were to make contact with. They didn’t want us there. They actually wanted to overthrow the Pallasian government.=^=

Park

Sensor readings showed no change in the positions of the ‘pirates’.

OOC: Just combined the posts …

GM

=^=Seeing as the Pallisan’s called them pirates, I’m not surprised. Did you find out why they wanted to overthrow the government.”

Marius

Deeg scratched his head and shrugged in Park’s direction. He couldn’t recall in all their rants just why they wanted to do that specifically. It was very hard to piece together anything useful from what they said. “They mentioned something about wanting to build up the colony to be economically viable,” he said quietly, though that seemed to be at odds with overthrowing the government especially when they they had little reason to even do that if they were in control of the homeworld. Nor did they say just how they might do it and with what. It reminded Deeg of the old ‘War of the Worlds’ story, a fascinating old pre-contact era tale of an earth invasion and where one individual was intent on rebuilding said world - but his single effort was unlikely to accomplish anything.
- Deeg

=^= They firmly believe that they could govern themselves better than Pallas Sir. They also mentioned that they wanted be economically viable=^=

Park

=^=That makes them sound more like colonists, separatists… perhaps even rebels, but not pirates? =^= Marius paused. =^=I don’t get it, Why did they invite us down if they weren’t going to tell us anything? Did you do something they didn’t like?=^= Marius didn’t know their first contact experience. =^= Would it help if I cam down?=^= not that he was a diplomat, but a Captain is a captain.

Marius

“If you know a more diplomatic way to get through to them by all means Sir, but I strongly recommend that you bring an armed escort per Starfleet protocols Sir.” Ben didn’t know if they were willing to speak to us after they were hurried out.

Park

The shuttle sensors showed that the one that was the pirate chief had moved back into the tunnels underground but the others were still in position watching the hovering shuttle.

GM

Deeg was dubious. He said quietly to Park, “We got out of the shuttle and they intercepted us on the way and wanted us gone from the start. We didn’t have a chance to insult them. As soon as they felt we weren’t going to join their insurrection they were all the angrier.” That was his perspective. He was rankled at the sense that they had done something improper - while that was possible, they needed to have a chance at that to do it.

His finger tapped at the place on the screen where the ‘chief’ had gone underground. The others were in position. “I wonder …” Deeg said, his sneaky mind thinking .. “His people looked nervous and didn’t look like they shared the same zeal. I wonder if we were to snatch one of them with the transporter and bring him here and see if there might be another version.” That was unlikely, though as it would be against various protocols for one and they had mentioned not using transporters. “I’d not like to bring the Captain into this before another comms communication with their leader. They were looking trigger happy.”
- Deeg, Eng

Ben nodded in agreement and quietly said “it’s your idea. Why don’t you inform the Captain about it and I’ll support you.”

Park

Deeg straightened up to be more professional, even though there was no visual and it really didn’t matter. But some things were habit. =^= Captain, Deeg here. The leader of the … envoy who met us was particularly zealous - moreso than those who were about him. Right now they are scattered about looking at us hover and their leader has gone back into the tunnels. If I might suggest a break in our protocols to beam one of these subordinates aboard the shuttle and see what he has to say. They appeared nervous even at the zeal of their leader. It may provide us more than rhetoric. =^=
- Deeg

Marius rubbed his chin, =^=That’s not very friendly. We might just want to talk, but it looks a lot like kidnapping. If someone transported one of you off my ship I wouldn’t be in much of a mood to have a friendly forthcoming conversation. Also I’d like to keep that transporter thing under wraps, that’s why you all have been using shuttles in the first place.^= He paused. =^=Would my presence be valuable?=^=

Marius

=^=Park here Captain. I believe from a diplomatic perspective yes Captain=^=

Park

Deeg was uncertain. His first ‘intelligence’ thought was that would put the Captain in a position for an attempted kidnapping. If they couldn’t make any headway even in a ‘hey lets do coffee’ introduction then how would the Captain unless he pulled out some kind of statement that they wanted to hear - such as - yes we will help you six to overthrow the homeworld and let your dictatorship prevail. He didn’t say anything. Deeg didn’t figure they’d be allowed to work the transporter. It was a toss up for him too for that matter. In response to Park’s reply , he just shrugged.
Deeg

OOC: Sorry if it seems that I have been inactive. I thought it wise not to make the sim more confusing and complicated. So I am simply waiting for the decisions to made regarding this thread, and the XO leading the away team to Pallas.

Kenson

=^=Alright then… Come to a higher position, I’ll beam into the shuttle… so as not to reveal our transporter technology and then you can put me on the ground with the ‘pirates’. Brief me on your first encounter so I don’t rehash the same stuff. =^=

In a moment or two Marius would have himself transported aboard.
Marius

=^= Understood Captain. Bringing the shuttle to a higher orbit.=^= Ben made a quick adjustment to the shuttle’s trajectory to the highest orbit he could take with the shuttle. Ben looked at Deeg in a reassuring manner “Deeg it’ll be okay. If anyone who taught me how to secure a situation quickly it’s the Captain. He taught me everything I know about ship security when he was my department head years ago.” =^=Park to Genesis standing by at a high orbit. We’re ready for you Captain.=^=

Park

As much as Deeg was sure that Park believed that, his experience showed that anything could go South. Paranoid by nature this only increased over the years since his stint with ‘other’ agencies. “Scanning for life signs and pirate positions,” he said knowing he could at least keep an eye on them.
- Deeg

Marius shimmered into existence on the shuttle. “Okay, put us back on the ground Lieutenant.” He looked around for a seat, where he buckled himself in. “Okay tell me what I need to know so I don’t get shot down here. It would be pretty embarrassing to die on my first away mission after I became Captain.”

Marius Captain
