Deeg peered back to look at the available space, making an expression of ‘oh this will be tight’. “Am on it,” he said. “Gonna be cramped ..” he said, “but it should work.” After a few taps and another ‘look back’ before nodding. “There,” he said to Ben.
- Deeg

“Negative, We are going to stun them as they materialize. We won’t need the force field.” Marius pulled out his phaser and set it on stun. “After they are aboard we are going to put a screen between the main cabin and the transporter that they won’t be able to see through.” He looked at them. “You remember the orders? You agree with everything I say… and when the times comes you beam them back aboard without and order…”

Marius

“Yes Sir. Sorry Sir. ” Ben pulled out his phaser and set it to stun. He Ben took the first shot as soon as they materialized.

Park

Two materialised first followed by the third two seconds later. They had no time to react, not understanding what they were going through. The looked confused when they materialised and they were not able to get their bearings before they were stunned.

GM

Marius efficiently tied their hands behind their back and put a gag on them while they remained stunned. Afterwards he erected the barrier over the transporter compartment so that it was completely concealed from the main cabin.

He whistled a happy tune as he attached a safety harness to himself and he lined the three prisoners by the door. It might be a little time before they regained consciousness. Different races responded differently but 15 to 30 minutes wasn’t unusual. He turned to his officers, “Get bio scan’s on these guys… their stubbornness is very fishy.”

When they regained consciousness. Marius smiled at them warmly… “Good morning Sunshine,” he exhaled. “I know you might be a little confused right now. Same way I’m a little confused. See, I come from a conglomerate of races that have a rule… ‘we don’t get involved in the internal politics of a planet. So it DOESN’T MATTER if you are the good guys, bad guys, mass murders, or pacifists… we just needed to know what was what… so we don’t get involved.. see… easy…’ He held out his hands…

“Mr. Park take us to 5000 meters.” Marius opened the hatch door as he gave the orders so the trio of prisoners could see the ground spin away… “Ohh.. we are fast look at the ground moving away… can you smell that fresh air.” Marius commented distracted for a moment. “I hope you guys aren’t afraid of heights. I’m not see I jumped out of ships from several different altitudes… what’s so amazing is how long it takes you to hit the ground. At 5000 meters you’d drop almost a minute before you hit the ground… a full minute of knowing you are going to die before you do… Would you be able to do it without screaming?” He made a face… “You think you could… but you can’t. Trust me… ohhh… terrifying.”

“Oh.. wait… where was I… Yes, I remember, So I ask you what’s going on… and you try to KILL ME… ” He bobbed his head. “That makes me a little upset. You get it right? On the other hand, since you tried to kill me… that means I can try to kill you… here’s the best part. I’m better at killing you than you were at killing me.”

“So lets try this one more time. All I wanted to know is what the hell is going on?” He reached out a grabbed the ‘pirate’ closest to the door, removed his gag from his mouth. “Tell me everything, leave nothing out.” Marius broke eye contact for a moment to look out the open door and the ship being 5000 meters off the ground.

Marius

Deeg kept the craft steady and brought it to 5,000 meters alongside Park. “I’ll fly, you .. look annoyed,” Deeg whispered. Park was more the security guy and Deeg the mousy engineer pilot. He knew that the Commander had something up his sleeve, though found himself impressed at the creativity of it all.
- Deeg

Ben played along and merely waved his fingers slightly over the controls.”Yes Sir. Five thousand feet Aye Sir.”

Park

The three captives were quiet, trying to get their bearings. It was obvious that they had been trained and prepared for the possibility of capture. However, their eyes betrayed their fear. They remained silent but their vital signs were higher than normal. What the sensors also showed that bioactivity was also increased around their fingers.

GM

Marius shook the pirate he was holding, “I told you to tell me everything… talk.”

He dragged him closer to the door. “Not a very pretty moon,” he glanced out the door, “Even from 5,000 meters… you know what’s interesting, I’ve jumped out of ships from higher and lower than this, but never at 5,000.” He paused as he looked at the ground, “Depending on gravity and wind resistance… it would take a person about a minute to fall to the ground from this height. Do you think you would scream?” He asked rhetorically.

“I think you would.” He nodded at the pirate coldly, “funny thing, it wouldn’t be a scream… you have a full minute to dread the moment of your life ending… inevitable but strangely distant. You would have time to take a breath… a half a dozen breaths and scream the whole time… wholly terrifying… completely disheartening.”

“Talk.”

Marius

The man looked terrified but did not talk. He looked to his compatriots who looked at him with determination. The man looked pleadingly back at Marius, “Either way I will die. Perhaps it is better do die not as a traitor …” He then closed his eyes tightly like someone saying a prayer …

GM

“You talk we return you the same way we took you… keep your secret, or not its up to you. I don’t enjoy killing, its a means to an end. If you get me to my end… I don’t need the means.” He looked out the open door. “Last chance.”

Marius

Ben looked back at them. He had a strong feeling that Marius was bluffing. He knew his Captain better than them. He dared not say his thoughts aloud.

Park

One of the other two seemed to relent a little and said, “Spare him. He has family. I have none.” He looked at the remaining one defiantly and said, “Don’t look at me like that! The true betrayer is Puck. He wants us to be free but he keeps us bound by him to do that. He takes away our freedom to give us freedom. What kind of nonsense is that!”

Then he turned around and said, “Return Sal back safely and I will talk. Rafe here will listen to what I have to say and then report me back to Puck. That way, Sal would not be implicated and his wife and children would have a better chance of survival.”

GM

“Replicator three sets of sound proof head phones.”

“I have all the cards, I could have killed you all already, but I haven’t. Tell me the truth and you live as I promised. Lie… and you die as I promised.” He picked up the sound proof head phones. “I want three identical stories. One difference, the three of you go… You don’t need to tell Puck anything, ” He nodded to the door. “Screw with me and defenestration, well not exactly, but close enough.”

He paused for a moment moving towards the one that the talkative one indicated, “If this one, Rafe, is the issue…” Marius dragged him to the door, replacing his gag as he moved along… “then out the door he goes and the two of you can get away Scot free.” If the other two didn’t speak quickly it was clear that Rafe was going to enjoy the one minute fall to the ground.

Marius

Sal was still looking extremely frightened. His vital signs were showing exactly that.

The one who spoke out for Sal asked, “Puck liked this colony and he was also a Vice Admiral in the Navy. He was unhappy with the way that the main government was exploiting the resources and decided to rebel. He kills anyone who opposes him. Back there, he was out of character: he let you go at first. He never does that to us. Any disagreement from us, we would eventually lose our life. Anything he doesn’t like to gets rid. He has Sal’s family underground. He says that it is for their protection but we have heard of how children and family members disappear when he is challenged or opposed. He wants to overthrow the government back at Pallas but he doesn’t have the resources. We do raids of convoys to get resources but they are never enough for Puck’s plans. He promises us freedom if we follow him but it is clear that he is chasing an empty dream. We obey him to keep our lives and the lives of our families. As I said, my parents died before he captured me and offered me my life. If I join him I keep my life. If not, I lose my life. Back then, joining him was a better option than being dead. Sal here is different. His family is back there. He would have to endure the deaths of his family members before being killed himself. I will die anyway, whether it is here or back there. Puck is suspicious. Rafe here will definitely report me just to save his hide.

Marius pointed, “This one?” gesturing at Rafe… “I think he will learn to keep his mouth shut.” He firmly put the gag in Rafe’s mouth.

“Do you think you can keep me from killing you anytime I want… let me clarify.” Marius hefted Rafe to his feet and promptly threw him out the door. He spent a moment to watch him start to fall.

The man who spoke yelled, “Why?!!”

“Well you were scared about what he would do to you and your family… now he’s not going to endanger you any longer. His life is more important than that of your family…”

When it was Sal’s turn to talk. The man was so terrified that he hyperventilated and fainted.

GM

Ben whispered to the pilot “take over Deeg ” Ben got up as soon as he saw the man fall. “Sir, I can take over.” Ben had said this in a reassuring but respectful tone.

Park

The muffled scream of Rafe could be heard for thirty seconds before there was silence.

Marius turned at the two officers… “Do what I told you to.”

Marius

Sensors showed that Rafe, who was pushed out of the door had fainted as well. The man who had spoken had evidently been very agitated. He was muttering under his breath and he was struggling with his bonds.

GM

Deeg did just that and shifted the displays to allow him to keep the shuttle where it was at while watching around them. There was always the chance of a rocket coming at them. He knew the Captain had something up his sleeve though was not sure what … and as Rafe fell he kept a lock on him as long as he could. Just in case. That or the tractor beam which, as Deeg considered it, would be rather an interesting feeling to be up in thin air like that. He didn’t know the Captain particularly well. He was an ensign and an engineer and didn’t often get out of his ‘man cave’ as some called Engineering. Was the Captain a kind of Captain Bligh in disguise?

OOC: I know it’s was a while ago, but I wrote this post

“Three is fine,” I want them to be beamed into a darkened room. We are going to stun them as they materialize, tie them up and bring them to the forward section.” Marius was done being diplomatic and they had tried to kill him so as far as he was concerned the gloves were off.

He turned to the two officers… “Very important, just agree with any thing I say… no matter how untrue. Also there may come a time where you are going to want to beam someone up… do so without asking me and put them in the storage hold. Remember, beam them up when the time comes…”

OOC: That was a few turkey comas ago chief. Grrr. Missed that. GM, can we work with this? OR did we miss the beam? .. Gene

OOC: Actually, I have left the scene rather vague. Of course we can work with that. I simply said that the guy (Rafe) went quiet. I didn’t say why :)

GM

IC:

Marius paused, “in retrospect, we could just transport you and family back to the home world. Would you prefer that?”

Marius

OOC: Just to get things straight: Rafe is the one who will talk to the commander Puck. Sal is the one with the family and is afraid to talk. The one who talked does not have a family and has not given his name yet.

OOC: ok got Sal and nameless wrong.

IC: “You mean Sal’s family?” the man who had volunteered looked queerly at the CO. “You got him so terrified that he is out. How are you going to get Sal’s family. You can’t just walk into Puck’s underground hold and then waltz out of the there with Sal’s family.”

GM

Marius made a guilty face, “Yes… I have that effect on some people, but that is neither here or there. I can get anyone at any time. You haven’t figured that out by now. What I don’t want to do is affect too much. So we won’t do things that have long term consequences… well not really.” Marius thought to himself. At this point Sal and ‘nameless’ had thought he just threw someone out the door so that was pretty long-term

Ben quickly remembered what Marius had said before beaming him aboard. “Yes Sir.” Ben sat back down to await further orders.

Park

Marius

Deeg knew that there was likely no chance of anyone hearing the transporter due to the whistle of the air from outside and the sound of the engines, faint as that was, but as Park was engaging the transporter Deeg had increased the pressure on the impulse manifold to ‘rev’ the engines more to cover any further sound.
- Deeg

The nameless one then understood what Marius meant. “Are you going to take over Pallas?” His voice trembled a little as he realised that the Pallasians were not as advanced as the visitors.

GM

Marius snorted, “No,” but he understood the train of thought. “We don’t do that… you remember how we just talked… then I came and we talked some more… then you shot at me… and basically I mostly only talked. We don’t want to take over anyone. We defend ourselves and try to make friends. If we can’t make friends we try not to interfere. If your home world didn’t ask for our attention we wouldn’t even be here.”

He paused, “but we are here now… and rescue operations are well withing what friends do. Do you and your friends and your families need a rescue?”

Marius

OOC: Added CE’s contribution …

IC: “Puck doesn’t make friends. He makes slaves …” said the ‘nameless one’. “I have no one. I have Sal and some others as friends. Sal has family. Even Rafe has family. How are you going to save our families before Puck takes them,” he asked, apparently still not realising what had happened to him regarding how he had got onto the ship.

GM

“How many people are we talking about?” He looked at him. “And lets also be clear, this is a pick up and drop off home sort of deal. We aren’t taking sides, we are just freeing you from a criminal venture.”

“If its only one guy… how can one guy force compliance from so many. he most have loyal people somewhere to balance the numbers.”

Marisu

“Puck has a group of 6 lieutenants who are absolutely loyal to him. They do not have families and their hands were injured during their tour of duty in the forces. Each of the lieutenants have an assistant. I know Rafe aspires to be one. These are ambitious but they are not trusted completely by Puck. They have uninjured hands. However, because of their ambitions, Puck uses a mixture of fear and their ambitions to keep them in line. Then there are the eighty odd soldiers who have their names in the wanted list because they were forced to leave with Puck during the mutiny. Only about five of us are without families. The rest have families held in ransom. The only contact between these soldiers and their families are via visual communicators. In the beginning, there were more of us soldiers. Those who did not believe that their families were held in ransom were shown how their families would die before they were shot. About twenty men challenged Puck and they stared in horror as their families were brought out to the open and executed. They were quickly dispatched when they tried to break free and save their families. Since that day, no one dared to defy Puck. The five without families, like me, were not able to escape because if we went back to Pallas, we would be executed as traitors, mutineers or deserters.”

GM

“That’s very much a no win situation. even if you leave you can’t go home.” Marius looked about to the crew. “Well your families aren’t guilty of anything. So they won’t be executed. I can presume? ” It was a question he didn’t know how strict the Pallisan laws were.

“I don’t know what kind of options are.” Marius thought. “If getting your families out was not an issue. What is your best option?”

Marius
