IC: “You are a stranger, an alien,” said the man who retorted before. “You feed us to get information. We may be rebels but we are not traitors!”

GM

Reia decided to interject here.

“I assure you that is not true. Mister park is a respected crew mate of mine and I feed you because you are hungry.” Reia explained attempting to put them at ease.

  • Reia, CIO

The man was taken aback with the CIO’s answer. For the briefest of moments, he hesitated. “If I do not want to give you information, what would you do?”

GM

“She would feed you and let you be.” Tom said from the direction of the bay doors.

Tom was wearing his best friendly face and looking like a fresh from the academy graduate.

“I think the important question is, since you are no longer prisoners of the pirates, where do you want to be?”

  • Tom, IntSec

OOC: Apologies! My internet connections had some issues.

IC:

The man was taken aback a second time. He took a longer to respond but without the defiance and bravado, “I am sure I speak for my friends: we want to go home, if only we could…”

“We have been branded traitors!” said a woman. “We will be seen as such and then treated as such.” She started weeping and her two children, a boy and a girl, began to comfort her. The others, who were murmuring before, fell silent.

GM

Reia made note of the situation and did her best to be sympathetic but, in truth, she had nothing to say that would ease what they were going through. And when the hell did they get an IntSec officer on the Genesis?

  • Reia

Ben had made three big pots of a hearty, meaty stew with fresh bread to dip it in for the guests aboard in the galley. He had already planned this meal when he had helped transport them from the encampment. He walked to the nearest panel and presseda button =^= computer begin transport from the galley under Park alpha-three six and place them horizontally along the back wall of cargobay one.=^= A shimmering light appears with three tables were gently lined up against the wall. It had three huge pots of stew on one table. The middle table had multiple loaves of bread that were still warm on covered heating trays. The last table had plates, cutlery, and napkins Ben looked at Reia “you mind helping me move the tables out a bit so I can serve food to our guests?”

Park

Reia began to help Ben with the tables while still managing to observe their guests and the newly minted IntSec officer.

“Good preemptive thought process there.” she murmured to Ben.

Tom arched an eyebrow.

“You’re outcasts. You don’t want to be prisoners of the pirates and you can’t go home. Is there an easy third option?” Tom asked the man while gesturing to the tables being prepped for a meal.

  • Tom, IntSec

Reia had to guess that there wasn’t an easy third option, there never really was in situation like this.

  • Reia

The remark brought about different facial expressions from different Pallasians: some scowled, some looked sorrowful, some wept, some looked anxious. No one had a response after the remark.

GM

Ben had started scooping a ladle full of soup into bowls when he saw a signal from a crewman. He nodded back to signal that he’s ready to serve them food.

Park

Again, it was the children that broke the ice. Some of the children tugged the sleeves of their mothers and pointed to the food waiting for them. Some of the women slowly moved towards the lieutenant with their children in tow. Some of the mothers looked tentatively at the other Pallasians but a few of the mothers looked straight at the lieutenant, their maternal instincts telling them that feeding the children was of utmost importance at the moment and not their status in society.

GM

Ben smiled at the Pallasians as he started handing out full bowls of soup and a piece of bread to the Pallasian mothers. “Enjoy the food” was a commonplace phrase that he used as he handed out the soup.

Lt (j.g.)Park

Magnus watched the people with care, things were going pretty much as expected, they were slow to trust a bunch of strangers… no not just strangers, aliens, beings from another world so far away they probably couldn’t comprehend it given the short amount of time they had. Starfleet Officers were so used to being around aliens that they sometimes forgot sometimes they were the most alien of them all.

XO

The mothers had taken the soup and bread tentatively at first but when they saw how their children were enjoying it, they relaxed and tucked into their own bowls as well. Other Pallasians were slow to respond to the invitation. However, after hovering their fingers over the bowls of warm liquids and touching the bread, they also moved into feed their empty stomachs as well. Only a few stood scowling, they were probably the most difficult to convince.

GM

Reia had noticed several Pallasians hadn’t yet taken food and made her way towards them.

“Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you. Different food perhaps?” she asked.

  • Reia, CIO

“I’m not hungry yet~” one answered. Another who was braver said, “What is going to happen to us?”

GM

Magnus took a step forward “That depends on several factors. We are guests in this system so as such we will have to follow the laws of its governing body, we have met with their leaders who expressed an interest in taking part in a larger interstellar society, mainly ours.” He spoke calmly and with respect, he had no interest in treating these people as fools “Our Captain will be making the final decision, I don’t have any direct answers right now but it should not be too long”

XO

Seeing the children enjoying the food made Ben smile. After the screwup he did with greeting them, hopefully the Pallasians didn’t take too much offense with him still in the room.

Park

The men went silent for a few moments when they heard the XO’s declaration. Then they started speaking among themselves in low whispers.

Tom stepped up to Magnus and stood facing him with his back to the Pallasians.

“Are you sure you want to mention following the laws without looking into them first? Perhaps the laws won’t be good for these disenfranchised people. After all, that one there said that they were branded traitors. If their punishment was exile do you suppose the punishment for breaking exile might be death? Perhaps they escaped execution with self imposed exile. Either way I don’t see a good outcome if we just drop them off. There could also be potential trouble if we go telling the system officials that we have their exiles or escapees from justice, whatever the case may be.”

  • Tom, IntSec

Magnus didn’t lose his smile as he turned his head “Yes I do. Three reasons” He started calmly, he reminded himself again that this stranger was in fact no stranger, at least according to his strange notebook, something he wished he had on him to recall this conversation for later. “We are in Pallasian space so we follow Pallasian law, one” He started “The local government is serious about wanting to join the Federation, by now they’ll have read the materials we gave them and realized that capital punishments are a no-no in the Federation, two” He continued “And I have no intention of lying to these people or fudging the truth, they deserve that much at least.” He rubbed his hands together “Besides, if their punishment was exile we can simply offer to drop them off at a more hospitable location or negotiate for their safe return. ‘Give Up the Shadow of Worthless Rights for the Substance of Real Advantage’“

XO

Reia had overheard the whole conversation whilst playing the good assistant still wondering who the hell the IntSec officer was. Shouldn’t she have known him by now? She smiled slightly at the XO’s response. It was similar to something she herself might have said.

  • Reia

“We were captured and held without our permission. We will trust the government rather than to have our names continued to be sullied,” said one of the men after their low voiced discussion ended.

GM

Ben walked around checking on the Pallasian mothers “is the soup to your liking?” Ben asking curiously.

Park

“Can I have more?” asked a little girl, holding out her bowl.

“Koko!” the woman beside her chided. Turning to Park, she said, “My apologies for her lack of good manners!”

Magnus nodded “Understandable, if you have any more worries or questions don’t hesitate to ask. Hopefully, we’ll have more news in the next few hours.” he added.

XO

The man nodded and turned to glance towards the food, his hand on his abdomen.

GM

Ben glanced at the man briefly. Looking at the child “if it’s okay with your mother, then yes you can have more.” Ben in a louder tone, “I’ve made plenty more soup for you all to enjoy. You’re more than welcome to try it.”

Park

The child looked to his mother who nodded her head. He walked purposefully towards the Starfleet officer. Reaching out with bowl in hand, he asked, “Could I have another bowl please?”

GM

Tom had faded back to watch the interactions with the crew. He didn’t expect the Pallasians to be so ready to submit to their government’s judgement.

  • Tom, IntSec

Ben nodded and smiled “of course you can.” Ben walked back to behind the table with a bowl and filled it with more soup that was still warm. He then placed a piece of bread in the bowl. He then offered the child a clean spoon.

Lt. Park

The child beamed and flushed. He had never been treated so well before. “Thank you!” he said. His mother came up and thanked him profusely as well. A few other children then ventured to ask for more soup.

GM

Ben beamed as well seeing the child smiling. He always wanted to have kids one day. Seeing the group “You are more than welcome to have more food.”

Park

The parents of the children smiled in gratitude and came to take more soup.

GM

Ben snuck away to the farthest left side of the table and lifted up a covered long metal pan lid from the cart that was tucked away beside the tables of food. What he displayed was a warm assortment of cookies. Ranging from walnut and raspberry cookies, chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, and sugar cookies. Ben smiled looking at the parents “we have an earth delicacy dessert called cookies. You’re more than welcome to have some.”

Park

One of the older girls came to test the cookies. She turned around, “They taste good and they smell great!” This brought some chuckles among the people. Even the adult men who were reticent before softened their faces a bit. She turned round to Park and said, “Let me. I am sure it would be easier to get them to eat if I serve them.”

GM

Even Reia had to smile at that.

“Cookies have been known to be the universal ice breaker. Bravo Mr. Park.” she said quietly.

  • Reia, Intel

Ben noddedtothe girl “Of course.”Ben took a step back so that she can take the cookies.

Park

The girl moved quietly across the cargo bay allowing the children and the adults to take the biscuit that they liked. Many hovered their fingers over the cookies for a moment before choosing the one they wanted. Before the girl could finish half the cargo bay, she had to return to ask for more cookies.

GM

The comms chimed in on the XO’s badge. =^= Thor to Commander Petursson. We are arranging to have a transfer in the Cargo Bay of the refugees to Pallasian shuttles. They are going to be arriving in approximately one hour. Can you be ready in that time? =^=
- Thor

Some of the adults overheard the message and there were murmurings among them. The mood was not negative, mor were they jumping for joy.

GM

Ben went around and asked the older girl that served the cookies “would you be willing to ask your people how’d they liked the food?”

Park

The girl turned to look and Ben and nodded meekly. She went about the Pallasians and they spoke in quiet tones.
