Siobhan smiled and turned back to her console. She was more than glad they were following the creature . She watched the probe head out towards, and beyond, the creature and watched as the telemetry started to come in of not just it, but the space around it. Was it following a trail of something? Or a ‘smell’, or its equivalent in space? How did the thing know which direction to go? “Captain, permission to set a probe at the nebula for energy reference before we get too far?” She asked, turning to face him. If there was a ‘road’ of some kind this thing was following, perhaps they could read the differences if she had a reference point.

Siobhan
Xenobiologist

Magnus turned to the Xenobiologist as she made her request before returning his attention to the creature itself. Even though this wasn’t his field of expertise it was still extremely interesting, a spaceborn alien entity pulling a butterfly transformation in a nebula, in his mind he was searching for the words to put into his log later on.

XO

The creature was still travelling at sub light speeds at the moment. It was about 1.2 times full impulse.

GM

David had been preparing the second probe, which the computer alerted him was now ready for launch.

“I’ve got another probe set to monitor the nebula sir,” David said. Checking the data from the probe monitoring the creature, he added, “It appears the creature is loving at a spread equivalent to 1.2 times full impulse.”

Chan was sitting at the engineering console keeping an eye on he systems. She had heard Dragen but was some what shocked at the creature. However she soon got over it. =^= Chan to Dagen. Apologies for the delay. we’ve encountered a creature of unknown origin. It bumped us as it passed. We’re now following it=^= Chan reported through the com.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

OC: Minor edit

=^= A creature? I hope not an energy sucking planetary sized amoeba like creature. Any surface damage from the .. bump? Residuals? =^= Dagen inquired. His tone sounded intrigued, but cautious.
- Dagen

The creature had increased its speed to two times impulse. The ship’s sensors showed no surface damage as there was no physical contact between the creature and the ship.

GM

“Wow, baby is crawling pretty fast.”

Magnus examined the latest readouts from his chair “Have we got any specific information on the creature’s biological makeup? If it has higher, well for lack of a better term, brain functions or if we’re discovering some sort of Space Butterfly?” He asked the Science team

XO

David cast a glance over towards Siobhan at the station next to him. This was more her area of expertise.

“Its actually doing us a favor going a little faster. Helm set up a parabolic course, curve us around the creature at warp one.” If the creature continued at 1.2 impulse it would go too slow for the Genesis to purse at warp. The curve she would have to make would cause mathematical issues.

Marius

According to sensors, the trajectory was predictable. The co-ordinates were obtained with the most suitable vantage point for observing the creature.

According to sensors, there was differentiation of different frequencies of energy modulation found within the creature. However, it was not possible to determine what these differentiations were for.

GM

“I think we can safely predict it’s course based on the sensor data,” David said. “Sending the data to helm now.” He pauses. “There appear to be several different energy modulations happening within the creature but without knowing more about this species…” his voice trailed off, it was clear they were witnessing something new and he didn’t have any more answers.

Reia was looking intently at the viewscreen.

“Butterfly? That doesn’t look like any Golden-Rayed Blue I’ve ever seen.” she murmured without realizing it.

  • Reia

Magnus turned to the Intelligence chief and smiled “That’s why I added the -space. Makes everything sound grander doesn’t it”

XO

Reia realized she had spoken aloud which was very unprofessional for an Intelligence officer but she merely nodded and smiled in return to his comment.

“it sounds like it’s sentient. It’s making decisions on it’s own.” Ben wondered what long range scans were saying about what’s up ahead. For all he knew, the Genesis could be surrounded by more of these creatures. That alone feeling of uncertainty made him feel uneasy about following the creature.

Lt. Ben Park, BO/Tactical

Siobhan has been so absorbed in the readout, she was hearing what was going on around her, but it wasn’t quite registering. She was trying to figure out if the various signatures were possibly both part of the creature or residue from it. The idea of ‘sentience’ hit her ears and she smiled. “Simply being born and moving in a direction doesn’t denote obvious sentient life.” She turned to the one who had spoken. “I don’t mean to belittle the observation, but some creatures that are ‘created’ act on instinct. Since we don’t know if it’s heading to food, family, or a flame, like moths, we can’t assume it is sentient. But then again, we can’t dismiss the fact, either. Moths go to flames on instinct, despite it being destructive. Until we know where this thing is going, I believe caution is the best answer. We certainly don’t want to use the ship to see what happens if its path is disrupted.” It was then she had an idea, “Though if we can get close enough to toss something in its path, we can see if a ‘single minded’ thing to get where it’s going, or willing to go around obstacles.” She glanced at the Captain then to see if that was possible.

Siobhan
Xenobiologist

As she was speaking, the creature started accelerating agin and yet was expending less energy. It would enter light speed in 20 minutes. Although at this speed, there was no indication that it was going into warp.

GM

“What kind of relativistic effects are we going to see as it approaches warp speed this way?” Marius turned. It could take years for the creature to get there while moments passed for them… if he did his math correctly.

“Do a course projection extend it out 1000 light years.”

Marius CO

The time dilation effects from the creature’s point of view is that time would remain fixed in one point as other points move on in time. From the sensor information gathered and the computer’s extrapolations, the creature would encounter a spatial anomaly that was about 10 light years away. There were stars and systems that it would encounter should it move on from the spatial anomaly.

GM

“What happens when that thing enters the anomaly?” Marius was a shooter not a scientist.

Marius

Magnus looked at the results of the scans, in his mind he went through possible worst-case scenarios, most involving the ship and some annoying science-fiction crap they dealt with all the time, he was hoping they’d be able to make contact with some sort of sapient or at least sentient life.

XO

The Genesis’s sensors did not have enough data to make a fair analysis of the anomaly. At their maximum sustainable warp, they could reach there under 2 days 10 hours.

GM

“I don’t have enough data to form a decent hypothesis sir,” David said. “That anomaly is 2 days 10 hours away at maximum warp.” He had never encountered a creature like this before, so all they could do at this point was wait and see.
