As the transporter beam solidified it revealed a tall Vulcan male holding a small bag. V’Lath had made it to the Genesis at last. The journey had been a long one with many side trips to a ship here or a shuttle there, trying to catch up to the deployed Genesis. Eventually he had gotten close enough to beam aboard. He stepped off the transporter grid and was greeted by the transporter tech. “Welcome aboard. Your personal gear was beamed directly to your quarters. Anything I can help you with ?” V’Lath looked down at the tech and raised a questioning eyebrow. “NE Petty Officer Fal, sir, I meant no disrespect.” V’Lath didn’t know why he elicited such a response, perhaps because he was Vulcan, or being normally taller than most everyone else. “Not a problem Petty Officer, and thank you. Getting me here was quite sufficient.”
V’Lath pulled a PADD out of his bag and synced it to the Genesis. His quarters were on deck 4, and the counselor’s office on deck 8. He headed to his quarters to unpack a few things, then he had to start the check in procedure. Medical would be first on his list.

OOC - Sorry, post should be credited to V’Lath, not Ben.

After a short stop at this quarters to unpack and distribute his personal gear, V’Lath planned to visit the Counselor’s office, and then Medical. Other than uniforms and a few images of his parents and his siblings, there wasn’t much. There was a chess set, that was a gift from his parents, a few books on psychology and counseling, a carved bust of Sigmund Freud who was supposedly the father of psychology and psychiatry on Earth, that his chief instructor had given him upon graduation with the admonition, “Remember clinical detachment!”. Far too many counselors fell prey to becoming too empathetic and involved with their subjects, and allowing themselves to “be a part of the problem” not the solution. Neatening up his desk, he then turned and headed to Sickbay and Medical.

As the Vulcan left his quarters a human male was there to greet him. By most standards, he’d be considered tall but next to the Vulcan he was almost ten centimetres shorter. He wore a red uniform with rank pips of a lieutenant commander. He had blond hair that was slightly greying at the temples, his eyes a faded blue. He was smiling widely at the new arrival “Counsellor V’Lath, I apologize for not meeting with you in the transporter room, I was delayed on the Bridge” He placed a hand out in the normal human greeting “I’m Lieutenant Commander Magnúss Pétursson” He spoke in a slightly accented Federation Standard “I’m the Genesis’ first officer, welcome aboard.”

V’Lath was somewhat surprised by the immediate meeting of the human male upon exiting his quarters. After the friendly greeting< V’Lath took the extended hand while automatically damping his empathetic sense. “Greetings Commander, it’s a pleasure to meet you” V’Lath replied. “I surmise by your name and accent that you are of Norwegian descent. I visited many of the Norse counties during my time on Earth.” While V’Lath attempted to not use his empathetic abilities except in a clinical setting, he had learned to read body language and facial expression to a fine degree. The Commander was extremely fit, and his uniform was obviously tailored to fit his muscular form. V’Lath got the impression that the Commander was a bit vain about his appearance, but otherwise his greeting was genuine. Releasing the hand, V’Lath continued,”Perhaps Commander you could answer a question for me. Does the Captain require the presence of the counselor on the bridge when he is there, or only on request ?” V’Lath raised a questioning eyebrow while waiting for the response.

Magnus smiled at the Vulcans comment on his heritage “Icelandic actually” He shook the hand with firmness before letting go “I don’t know if he requires it your predecessor was a valued member of the crew, you’ll have to ask him yourself but I think you’ll be welcome on the Bridge, especially when meeting with new species” He turned to the side, indicating to the hallway “You heading for your evaluations next?” He asked.

XO

“Yes, thank you. I was headed to medical to check in and also meet Cmdr. Brennan as she will be my Department Head.” V’Lath released the Commanders’ hand, glad for the firm grip. “I will also be sure to check with the Captain, and look forward to serving on board. If you’re also heading that way I’d be glad to accompany you.” V’Lath had formed an opinion on the XO, but would wait for more details to expose themselves before making a final analysis.

V’Lath decided to head for his office first and see what was needed there. He excused himself to the XO and headed off to the turbolift. Upon arrival he found several plants and items apparently left by his predecessor. V”lath didn’t particularly care for plants or the decor, he made arrangements to have the plants and other items removed and replaced with several pieces of Vulcan sculpture and landscape paintings from several different planets. He had the walls redone with pale pastel colors of blue and gray, and as a final step had a replica fireplace installed on one wall. He placed the two comfortable chairs in front of this facing each other, with a small table between them. For some reason certain species, especially humans found the scene comforting and it put them at ease. In fact he had found that the effect was not lost on him as well, he envisioned himself meditating in front of the flickering fire with a mug of coffee at hand. Smiling slightly he exited the office and headed to sickbay.

As he was heading to sickbay, V’Lath decided to put the XO’s suggestion into action, he tapped his comm-badge. “Counselor to bridge.”

=^=Yes counselor, how can I help you?” Came the very customer service sounding voice from the bridge that had failed to identify itself.

Marius CO

“I know that on a lot of ships it is customary for the counselor to be on the bridge. I wondered if my presence was required or of it is preferred for the counselor to stand by until called for? I am fine with either decision, but did not want to be remiss in my duties.”
