Ben had gone to the crew lounge and obtained a table for two near one of the large viewports. He sipped on a coffee as he anxiously awaited T’Lora. He wasn’t sure what she would order, she had mentioned she liked omelets, but he didn’t know what kind. He did know she liked tea, so he had ordered a pot and it sat steeping on the side of the table. He checked the time display, she wasn’t late, but she wasn’t early either. Mentally he chided himself, “I’m nervous as a teenager on his first date.”, then the irony of what he had just thought struck him and he smiled broadly.

Ben SO -Nervous as a teenager.....

T’Lora stepped into the Lounge, punctual as always, and spotted Ben sitting at a small table. She smiled and walked over, stopping besides the empty seat. “I assume this is reserved for me?” she teased. She noted the pot of tea and smiled. “Very thoughtful of you Ben.” T’Lora sat down across from him, and looked out the viewport. “The stars are quite aesthetically pleasing.”
-T’Lora - nervous but hiding it.

Ben stood and went around to hold the chair for T’Lora. “Yes it most definitely is for you.” He slid her chair in for her and then seated himself. “I wasn’t sure exactly which kind of omelet you would like, but I checked and they said they could whip up most any kind.” He motioned for the waitress, so they could place their orders. In response to her comment about the stars, he said, “Yes, they are. When I was a kid in Texas I used to lay out in our yard and watch the stars and wonder what was up there,........ now here we are among the stars.” He turned and gazed out at the millions of specks of light as they flew past.

Ben - Something about “Star crossed” comes to mind.

T’Lora set her hand on the table in an invitation for Ben to take it. “I first traveled the stars at eight, but my father loved to tell me that there is someone waiting in the stars for everyone.” She looked at Ben and smiled. “Yet another thing he was right about.”
-T’Lora

Ben noticed T’Lora’s hand and after a quick look to see if it was ok, took it in his own, her hands were small compared to his, and his were callused from the years of martial arts, but she was Vulcan and probably had a grip equal to, if not greater than his own. He squeezed her hand gently, marveling in the softness. He supposed doctors didn’t build up many calluses. “Are you absolutely sure about this, because I certainly am. You’re like no one I’ve ever met and I want to spend a lot more time with you.” He noticed the waitress standing by the table with a big smile on her face. “We should probably order”, Ben said, slightly red faced. The NE waitress just kept smiling and said, “Oh no hurry, you two keep right on, I’m enjoying this.”

Ben - Over the edge and gone for good

T’Lora smiled at Ben, even as her face flushed from the waitress’s comment. “I am certain.” She squeezed his hand back and whispered. “We should definitely order.”
-T’Lora

Ben thought the stars had exploded in his universe, and food was suddenly the last thing on his mind. T’Lora’s comment brought him back to reality. “Yes, we should. What are you having?” The NE waitress just grinned and prepared to take their orders.

Ben

T’Lora turned to the waitress. “A mushroom omelet please.”
-T’Lora

Ben straightened in his chair. “I’ll have a veggie omelet please, and could I have sliced tomatoes as a side?” Order placed and waitress departed, Ben turned to T’Lora, “I understand you’ve met the new counselor, what’s he like ?”

OOC: Don’t want to mix characters, but thought it would be something Ben would ask, being a SO.

Ben

T’Lora smiled. “He is interesting.” The smile disappeared. She didn’t want to talk about Pa’nar, but it seemed like something he ought to know.
-T’Lora

Ben could tell the counselor was a topic she didn’t want to discuss, so let it drop. There was so much about her that he wanted to know but thought that in time she would tell him. Their omelets arrived and Ben had his coffee freshened, he picked up a fork and looked at T’Lora, “So we both know that we care deeply for each other, so where do we go from here? Neither of us have any family really, so there’s just the two of us.”

Ben

“Although I do not have any direct family, there is a small village worth of young men who would be happy to give you the… shovel talk?” T’Lora wasn’t quite sure what that meant, but she had been told to say it to any of her boyfriends. “When we end up back on Earth, I would be happy to take you to my home village.” She smiled at Ben. “In the short term, I believe you are more versed than I am in romantic relationships.”
-T’Lora

Ben took a bite of his omelet, thought a minute, and after swallowing stated, “I believe the shovel talk is where a bunch of young men who think highly of you, threaten to beat me with shovels if I ever mistreat you.” He took a sip of his coffee. “My parents had small ranch in Texas, which is now mine, and I’d love to take you there some day, but no one’s going to shovel talk you.” He grinned. “I don’t know about being more versed in romantic relationships, but we need to decide on what we want to do. I want to spend as much time with you as I possibly can, and I want us to share our hopes and dreams for the future. I need to know what your expectations are.” Ben sat back, food pretty much forgotten for the moment.

Ben

T’Lora’s eyes grew wide. “If they beat anyone with shovels they’d have to answer to me.” She ducked her head slightly, but when he mentioned expectations, she met his eyes again. “Plans… have never been my strong suit.” She gestured around her. “I am in Starfleet because my father wanted me to be. I am a doctor because it was the first available internship I found enjoyable.” She shrugged. “There are three logical outcomes to my life. I will be promoted, I will quit, or I will die. Admittedly promotion is the most likely, and the preferred option, but I have few solid plans.” She really only had two solid plans, but the notion still stood.
-T’Lora

Ben took another bite of his omelet and a sip of coffee, which gave him time to think a bit, “I think the shovel thing is meant figuratively, and just means these people care about you, besides I think think I could handle up to about four guys with shovels.” he grinned. “I have some questions about our relationship and need your input. .......Have you considered marriage, or possibly children later on ? Do we get married or just live together? All I know is that I want to spend the rest of my life with you, however long that may be. ” To try and lay aside the seriousness of his questions he said, “By the way, did you know I find your ears sexy as the dickens.” He hoped he hadn’t dumped too much, too soon on her.

Ben

T’Lora had opened her mouth to reply, but she closed it and put a hand over her face to hide her blush. “I have always wanted children.” she admitted. “And although Vulcans do not have marriage in the same way, I grew up in a human village. Marriage is expected, and that is one expectation I am happy to indulge.
-T’Lora - who always secretly wanted to be a mom

Ben noticed the blush rising above T’Lora’s raised hand. He hadn’t meant to embarrass her in any way, but these were things he needed to know. The omelet now pretty much forgotten, he slowly reached across the table and took both her hands. “I know doing this over an omelet isn’t very romantic, but I think I asked you to marry me in a roundabout way, and now I’ll say it directly. T’Lora will you marry me? I know we haven’t known each other very long, but I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.” The NE waitress who had come to refill Ben’s coffee and check on them, stood there and was crying into a towel she was holding, blubbering about “Sure seemed romantic enough to her.”

Ben - Wowser’s

T’Lora nodded enthusiastically. “Ah! Taluhk nash-veh k’dular.” She stopped. “That was in Vulcan.” The waitress laughed and bent down to Ben’s ear and whispered. “She said yes.”
-T’Lora - Who always thought she would never get married

Ben was absolutely gob-smacked, not sure what to say, and not quite believing that T’Lora had said “Yes.” “I guess I need to get you a ring, or do Vulcan’s wear rings ? Do we want to have the Captain perform the ceremony now, and maybe have another ceremony at your village when we get back to Earth ?” Suddenly there were a million questions running through his mind, and he had no clue as to the answers, those would come as time progressed. Other people in the lounge were starting to notice. The NE waitress turned and announced to all, “He just asked her to marry him and she said yes.” There were congratulatory shouts and polite clapping from several other couples seated nearby. Ben stood up, still holding T’Lora’s hands, drawing her with him. “I believe this occasion calls for a kiss.” He realized he had never kissed her before. “Must have been the touchy/feely thing”, he mused as he drew T’Lora close.

Ben - The hopeless romantic
