V’Lath thought it best to talk to the doctor in person. “Doctor, I am in the midst of preparations for a rather delicate mind meld with Ens. T’Lora, if you wouldn’t mind could you come to the counselor’s office. I will attempt to explain what we are about to do, and would like you to observe as well.” V’Lath hoped the CMO was familiar with mind melding and would understand this was T’Lora’s chance for a normal life.

V’Lath - Seeking inner calm

=/\=I’ll be right there, Ensign.=/\= What were they thinking? A mind meld? V’Lath had only been on the ship a few days and T’lora was going to trust her future to his abilities, just like that? Sage stopped by the nurse’s station and let them know she was going to be out of the loop for a couple of hours unless a real emergency came in that they couldn’t handle. She let them know where she was going to be, too—just in case.

A few moments later, she was palming the chime at the counselor’s office.

—Sage

OOC - Assuming Rollo is another character of yours. Been there done that myself.

OOC: OOPS! Fixed it.

V’lath rose from his cushion and faced the door. “Enter, please doctor, and make yourself comfortable.” He gestured to the chairs. “This could take a bit of time.” He turned and sat back down and faced Dr. Brennan. “Doctor, how familiar are you with Pa’ Nar disease and it’s effects? T’Lora has had this disease and a cure was implemented that was less than complete, leaving residual side effects.” V’Lath sat back and waited to see what the doctor’s response would be.

IC:
It was easy to slip into her ‘medical’ mode. As Sage seated herself, she spoke. “It’s a Vulcan neural disease, the result of an improperly handled mind meld and it causes deterioration in the synaptic pathways. I believe it also affects the immune and endocrine systems if I remember my biology correctly.”

—Sage

V’Lath sighed inwardly,........ he was glad Dr. Brennan was familiar with the disease/syndrome. “Exactly. T’Lora not only was the victim of an improper mind meld, but the attempted cure was not done by someone who was trained to make it effective. T’Lora’s synaptic pathways are compromised and she suffers from side effects. Surely you must have noticed her reluctance to touch anyone, what might seem to be aloofness is actually her fear of not being able to control her empathy.” He motioned to the model of the Kir’Shara. “While I was on Vulcan I was able to study the writings from this artifact, and they specifically mention the dangers of Pa’Nar and what must be done to cure it. I have cured several cases of Pa’Nar in the past. I must remap T’Lora’s synaptic pathways so the neuroelectric impulses in the midbrain are not degraded. We have talked and she wishes me to do this.” V’Lath considered a moment, then continued. “The reason I asked you to be present, doctor, is that the procedure is very taxing and there is a slight risk of seizure or cardiac malfunction in the one performing the procedure, the recipient would not be affected.” He sat back on his cushion. “Now all we need is T’Lora.”

V’Lath CNS

T’Lora took a deep breath, then rang the chime. She hoped V’Lath was ready for her. It was the correct time, and she did not want to wait.
-T’Lora

V’Lath stood “That is T’Lora, prompt as usual. Please come in and make yourself comfortable. I have asked Dr. Brennan to observe and be in attendance, and I’m sure she has questions for you.” V’Lath seated himself and motioned to the cushion across from him to T’Lora. He hoped this would not be an extensive meld , as he was usually spent for several hours afterward.

V’Lath CNS

T’Lora nodded and took the indicated seat. “V’Lath, Doctor Brennan.” She smiled slightly. “I would be happy to answer all of your questions doctor, but first,” She turned her attention to V’Lath. “Are you certain you wish to do this?”
-T’Lora

“T’Lora, my certainty is not the question,..... . are you certain ? I would not have offered to do this if there was the slightest doubt about the outcome, or my ability to effect a complete cure for you. ” He turned to Dr. Brennan. “Doctor, I surmise you probably have several questions you would like to ask, and I would like to begin as soon as possible, as the preparation was quite tedious.”

V’Lath CNS

T’Lora nodded, reassured. She also turned to Dr. Brennan, somewhat hoping to avoid awkward questions, but knowing they would be asked regardless. “If you have many questions, if may be best if you ask them after.”
-T’Lora

V’Lath reached across and took T’Lora’s hands, he sent nothing but feelings of peace and calm. “T”Lora I am about to begin, you will feel nothing but perhaps a mild numbness which will quickly pass.” He released her hands and gently placed his fingertips on specific places on her temples and face. Gently he began to probe, seeking the neural paths of the midbrain. He continued to exude feelings of utter peace and calm as he gently moved his fingertips over T’Lora’s temples. The neural pathways would appear to him as light blue lines with red pulses traveling along them. Several minutes passed as he sought the areas that were still compromised, and the strain of keeping the feelings of peace and calm flowing from him to T’Lora caused him to begin to sweat profusely. He took deep, calming breaths and continued. Several more minutes passed and at last he saw where the neural pathways had been damaged and an attempt at correction had been made. Several of the synaptic pathways were distorted and the red impulses were not passing to the midbrain. Sweat was pouring off him now and dripping on the small table between the cushions. There were other pathways which were not in use and what he must do is carefully remap the pulses from the still damaged pathways to new healthy ones. Slowly he began to move one pathway at a time, being careful to not disrupt any healthy synapses in the process. One by one he rerouted the damaged pathways until finally he saw a complete neural network functioning smoothly and efficiently. Still sending feelings of peace and calm he began to withdraw until he was finally back to himself. “T’Lora, it is done. The ineffective cure has been remediated.” His hands dropped into his lap and exhaustion overwhelmed him as he slumped sideways to the floor.

V’Lath CNS - Totally exhausted

T’Lora relaxed, careful to keep her own mind peaceful to ease the strain. As soon as she felt his V’Lath’s mind leave hers, she opened her eyes. When he began to fall, she reacted quickly, catching him just before he hit the floor. “Nemaiyo V’Lath. Nemaiyo na’nash-lo’uk ta’an.” After she had said her thanks, she placed a hand over his own meld points. If you ever do that again she directed to him, You ought to have someone ready to catch you She had a large smile on her face. “One thing I thought I would never be able to do again,” T’Lora said quietly. She looked up to Dr. Brennan. “He will be well. He is merely exhausted.” She grabbed one of the assorted cushions and placed it under his head. “You have questions.”
-T’Lora - unbelievably grateful, and luckily, possessing very fast reflexes

V’Lath slowly came to himself, aware that he was laying on a cushion. He raised himself up to a sitting posistion.”Doctor’s, I assure you that I am quite all right, just very tired at the moment.” He stood and went to replicator, “Vulcan coffee, large, hot.” While the replicator was working he went to the small basin in the lavatory and washed his face and hands. Turning to face the doctors, he said, T’Lora I am glad I was able to help you and you should suffer no more side effects from the bungled cure, and you are more than welcome. Please, Dr. Brennan, I am sure you have questions.” He went and sat in the chair opposite Dr. Brennan.

V’Lath CNS -Very tired and needing a shower.

OOC: It has only been three days since my last post but the two of you have completed the thing you wanted Brennan there for. She would have had questions and would have made sure she had resuscitation equipment for V’Lath since he said his heart might stop. Since it all went alright, I’ll just get her out of there.

IC:
Sage stood. “No, I don’t have any questions. I’m glad you’re both alright and that the meld was successful. Since I’m not needed here, I’ll be heading back to sickbay now.” She nodded to both of them and headed towards the door.

—Sage

OOC : Very sorry. Did not intentionally mean to leave you out. Apologies.
D.S.

OOC: Also extremely sorry. We both need to work on waiting.
-Leonora

OOC: I only mentioned it here because in your STF careers you will have threads with many other characters. You need to give them time to post as for a lot of us, life gets in the way sometimes. Everything is fine. Don’t worry about it.

D…

V’Lath turned to T’Lora after Doctor Brennan had exited. ” I am very glad that everything worked as expected, and hope you will be pleased with the results as well. I am very tired now and in great need of a shower and an hour or two of rest, but please feel free to visit anytime, and know that I consider you as T’hy’la and hope you would feel the same. One sometimes needs a special friend.” He turned and sank into one of the chairs, resting his feet on one of the cushions.

V’Lath CNS

T’Lora smiled. “I will leave you to sleep. Thank you.” She was about to tell him of her engagement but she paused. “I will come back later.” She turned and left.
-T’Lora

V’Lath smiled and settled deeper into the chair. The fireplace, though giving off no heat at the moment was comforting. “Computer, dim lights.” The lights dimmed until they were just a faint glow. He closed his eyes and sleep claimed him. He dreamed of a time on Vulcan, many years ago, and a young Vulcan woman who looked amazingly like T’Lora.......................
