According to the projections and simulations, the computer hypothesised that the creature was buried in the moon. It could either burrow its way out or destroy the moon from within. The size of the moon in the system was just the size for either way. If it was larger, the creature would have been buried closer to the surface and the burrowing would be the way it emerged. If the moon was too large the second method would not be possible as it did not seem possible for the creature to utilise enough energy to destroy a larger body from the inside. In this sense, the size of the moon was not relevant to the size of the moon.

GM

“I know that on a lot of ships it is customary for the counselor to be on the bridge. I wondered if my presence was required or of it is preferred for the counselor to stand by until called for? I am fine with either decision, but did not want to be remiss in my duties.”

V’Lath CNS

Not that V’Lath could tell, Marius looked about the bridge. He never had the counselor on the bridge, he did have the previous second officer who happened to be the counselor. He shrugged, =^=All opinions are welcome on the bridge.=^=

Marius

Chan was at engineering feeling a little useless there wasn’t much an engineer could do. However she made sure to keep an eye on the XO and his shuttle. He was taking a big risk. If he hurt himself he would have to worry about Chan an that was far worse then most things.

Lieut Chan (Sub-DH Robotics)

“The shuttle is away,” Marius looked at the screen. “Take us to the anomaly warp 8.5.” He didn’t intend to go slowly, but there was no reason to really task the engines too much.

Marius CO

Ben touched the console and the course and speed were immediately implemented. “On course, speed warp 8.5, aye sir.” The Genesis turned slightly and disappeared in a flash of light.

Ben SO

As the anomaly was about 10 light years away, the Genesis would reached it in approximately 2 days and 22 hours at Warp 8.5

GM

“Commander Brennan take this shift, be sure we are secure. Then set up a bridge rotation that has both of us on duty when we reach the anomaly.” Marius stood up and walked to the ready room.

Marius

She looked up from reading on the screen in her lap. “Aye, Captain.” Staying in the chair she currently occupied, Sage watched her husband retreat to his office. While she pulled up a duty roster for the bridge, she spoke to the officers that were manning the positions. “Let me know the moment something changes. I know it all appears to be pretty standard at this stage, but remember we are dealing with an unknown life form with capabilities we aren’t sure about.”

—Sage

The ship soon went ahead of the creature, who was travelling at a speed slightly short of light speed. With the creature behind them, they moved quickly ahead. Then, after about half a day’s journey, the sensors detected a surge of energy in the creature and an increase of speed. Then, for about a minute, the sensors could not detect the creature. Then it came back on the sensors, this time considerably nearer to the Genesis. It had travelled a distance of about one light year. It had travelled in about a minute what the Genesis had taken almost 7 hours to cover. Although still behind the Genesis, it had ‘jumped’ forward as it travelled. The speed of the creature when it appeared again on the sensors was about 70% of light speed – lower than the speed it was before the energy spike and burst of speed.

GM

The comms at the engineering station chimed. =^= Dagen to Chan. Did you get any data on the creature’s … leap? =^=
Thor, CE

V’Lath exited the turbolift and surveyed the bridge, noticing the absence of the Captain, he moved to stand next to the vacant security console, and spoke to Cdr. Brennan who was occupying the command chair. “Cdr., where would you prefer that I sit, or I can remain here if you wish ?” V’Lath wasn’t really sure what input he could provide in the current situation, but he could be another pair of eyes, observing and evaluating.

V’Lath CNS

OOC: Sage is sitting in the XO’s chair, not the Captain’s. I believe the bridge has three chairs for command. One on either side of the CO’s.

IC:
She looked over her shoulder at his entrance. “Ahhhh, Ensign V’Lath, suit yourself.” The mystery of the creature they pursued increased greatly with its last movement. =/\=Captain to the bridge. The entity might be more than we bargained for.=/\= With its new demonstration of speed, it was possible the Genesis could lose track of the space baby.

—Sage

“Thank you Cdr., I believe where I am is sufficient.” V’Lath quickly scanned those on the bridge, noting that all seemed alert but not tense. All attention was on the current sensor readings and the creature’s sudden burst of speed.

V’Lath CNS

The sensors indicated that the Genesis was moving further and further ahead of the creature due to the differences in speed.

GM

On the engineering station, the sensors were able to get some data on the ‘jump’. There was an increase of energy in the creature. There was a build up of gravitons about 10 metres in front of the creature. Then there was what seemed to be a magneton pulse just before the creature ‘disappeared’. All this happened within a span of 5 nanoseconds.

GM

Marius re-entered the bridge in a moment, he looked at the screen and then towards Sage, without a reference point there was no way for him to tell visually that something was unexpected. “Report.” He asked.

Marius

Reia wondered if the creature was playing some type of game.

  • Reia

David had been monitoring the sensor data. “I have no explanation for the erratic movements the creature is making,” He said aloud. It was truly remarkable and something he had never seen before.

-David Michaels, CSO

Sage stood and clasped her hands behind her body. She’d reviewed the sensor readings in the minute between the creature moving and Cal re-entering to take command of the bridge.

“It seems the ‘baby’ might be more than a just a simple life form. It has its own kind of faster-than-light ability to travel. It just happened. We were hours ahead of it and in less than a second it closed that distance. Sensor logs show there were gravitons and a magneton pulse just before the FTL happened.”

—Sage

“The shuttle wont be able to keep up.” Marius looked at the screen. If he stopped to recover the shuttle craft then the creature could beat the Genesis to the the anomaly. He stared at the screen for about a second.

OOC: Sorry. I thought the shuttle was going to the nebula to study the origins of the creature …

OOC: Well they are now.

=^= Marius to away team please investigate the nebula. We won’t be able to recover you.=^=

IC:

“Put us at warp 9.”

“Michaels see if you can figure out a way to disrupt a graviton field.” He took his unoccupied captain’s seat.

He looked over at Sage, “Didn’t even try the big chair?”

Marius

In a voice so soft only Cal could hear, she spoke. “I’ve had the pleasure of trying the man who sits in the big chair. I’m sure the seat wouldn’t live up to my expectations after that.”

—Sage

“Apples and oranges, the experiences certainly would be different.” Marius looked at his second officers who also was his wife.

Ben glanced down at his console and made the appropriate entries. “Captain, we are now at warp 9.”

Ben SO

As V’Lath continued to watch and observe the happenings on the bridge he noticed that now there was a certain amount of tension beginning to show in the crew’s body language and facial expressions.

V’Lath CNS

After about another 12 hours, the Genesis was 6.2 light years and about 10 minutes short of 36 hours from the anomaly. The creature who was about 0.7 light years behind the Genesis after its jump, had now trailed to about 2.8 light years from the Genesis. There was the usual build up of energy in the creature, the graviton build up outside the creature and the magneton pulse nanoseconds before the creature disappeared from sight and appeared one light year from its previous position about one minute later. The creature was now about 1.8 light years away from them.

GM

“Has the rate of the creatures jumps been consistent?” Marius did a little math in his head and found that that they were about 3 minutes ahead of the creature, that probably wouldn’t be enough time on station long enough to figure out what was going on.

“We have a maximum time of 12 hours at warp 9.2. We are going to need every second that we can buy to make an analysis.” He could wait to use it at the end of the trip, or now. If he used it now, he would have another 12 hours to regenerate his power reserves. =^=Engineering we need warp 9.2 for as long as you can hold it.=^=

Marius

Ben checked the readouts on the Tactical console and made the necessary inputs to raise their speed to warp 9.2, when Engineering gave the OK. He knew that speed was at or near max for the Genesis, but trusted the Captain’s experience and wisdom.

Ben SO

=^= We can do twelve, sir. And push it longer if we nurse it =^= Dagen replied. It was not like it was 9.5. That .3 made a lot of difference. They weren’t damaged so the stressors and factors were less. But, hopefully, not too many more hours.

V’Lath had been observing and evaluating, but so far had been quiet. “Captain, have you considered that the creature may be far more intelligent than we first thought, and is either playing a game with us, or testing our abilities ? This is merely a supposition, I have no factual data.”

V’Lath CNS

Marius pursed his lips… “Counselor, perhaps you just earned your pay for the week.”

“Open hailing frequency, standard communication protocols… Lets see if Baby answers any of our signals.”

Marius

Reia had been wondering for quite some time if the creature had been herding them somewhere but hadn’t gathered enough data herself to voice such a suggestion to the Captain. The Counselors statement had definitely caught her interest though.

  • Reia, CIO

OOC: Engineering reply to Chan …
IC:
=^= Hoy, that is quick, =^= Dagen responded. =^= And 10 meters? =^= How could they focus a graviton beam that close without damaging the ship. Would it be farther if it was a larger vessel like theirs? =^= Wow. What do you make of it? The forces on the creature must be incredible. =^=
