“Oh hello… I’m reading organic material similar to the creatures. Either it brushed against one of the planets,” she smiled knowing that wasn’t the case, “or there is something more here.” She pointed towards the source of the readings. “See if you can head that way. Let’s see if this is just a blown off residue of some kind or the material is about to make a baby. Shall we?” She glanced at the XO. “You do realize as the self proclaimed good looking one, you are gonna be named daddy if we get one while out here. You know that, right?” She nudged his shoulder with her own as she joked.

Magnus smiled at the scientist’s joke “Now, now, I’d be perfectly happy to be mother hen to a giant space cloud, I’ll just have to put together a larger football to kick around the cosmos with” He said as he tapped the coordinates into the system for Ben to follow

XO

“Aye Sir. Moving closer to the planets.” Ben pressed a few commands to activate impulse power to the engine.

There were remains about 20 metres below the surface of the nearest planet. That planet had neither moon nor atmosphere. Sensors showed that there was something like a fossil of a creature with some organic material still present.

GM

“Ok, hold here… that’s it.” She moved to let others see the screen. Something is just below the surface. There is still organic material present. So now the question is… is it deteriorating, or growing?” She frowned and moved a couple paces away to stare at the back wall of the shuttle. She stood there for a good moment or two before turning back around. “Ok.. so we take a reading of the percentage of organic material now. Then we wait, perhaps 30 minutes to an hour, and see if the readings change.” She moved to one of the rear consoles to begin doing just that. With any luck, they would only need one hour to know if it was materializing, or dematerializing. And deep down, she prayed this wasn’t something that took years to grow. Much as she liked the shuttle, she didn’t want to spend THAT much time it in. She doubted the guys would, either.

Sensors showed no life signs and that the material was actually deteriorating.

GM

“Hmmm well there goes that theory. I’d hoped we were seeing the start of what we saw finished earlier. But the material is deteriorating. Though I am still curious how the bones and material got there in the first place.” She leaned back against the wall, crossing her arms, one hand rising to play with an errant strand of hair around her neck. “Although, maybe the death of this one prompted the birth of the other. Damn! I wish I knew… Are we getting any other strange readings from the area?” She bit her lip and looked at the floor wondering if it would give her any insight to how the creature came to be, or how its counterpart ended up trapped in essentially its ‘egg’ and died.

In another planet, about 20 million kilometres away, about 8 minutes at full impulse, sensors detected similar material but also no life signs.

GM

“Sensors are showing similar materia on a nearby planet exactly million kilometers from our current position. It’ll take us 8 minutes at full impulse to get there.”

Lt. Park

Magnus looked at the readings “Do you think this implies other similar creatures were born here, could this be a breeding or hatching ground for this species?” He asked the scientist “Set our course, Park, let’s try and get as much information as we can.”

XO

Ben nodded and tapped several commands and plotted the fastest course to the nearby planet. ” Aye Sir. Activating full impulse…now.”

Lt. Park

Siobhan continued to monitor the rocks and asteroids an stars and anything else she could get a reading on, to see if there was a pattern or path that seemed stronger. Once at the new site, she scanned there as well to see if the material was increasing or decreasing. “A breeding ground. That seems logical. Someone see if there is any other system in the database where either this has occurred before, even if it’s just the Vulcans who know, or if there are systems known with similar readings. Planets, stars, etc. Maybe the other locations just haven’t ‘hatched’ when someone was around to see.”

It seemed a bit far fetched, but then again, so was a creature erupting from a planet.
