Ben took T’Lora’s hand and started towards her quarters, when a thought occurred to him. “Have you told Dr. Brennan about the wedding yet ? She is married to the Captain and might be the one to approach about the ceremony.”

Ben

OOC: Yep! She sure is!
IC:
T’Lora ducked her head. “I haven’t.” She hadn’t even tried actually. “What if she’s concerned? Or if she doesn’t approve?” She needed to, of course, Doctor Brennan would find out sooner or later, but she wanted some sort of confirmation first. “It was very fast for humans.” Not for Vulcans. But for humans… “My parents were engaged three hours from their first meeting. Humans usually take months.”
-T’Lora

Ben took both of T’Lora’s hands. “It’s ok to be nervous, but she needs to know. As for the fast part, I knew from the moment I first saw you that you were it for me. C’mon I’ll go with you and we’ll tell her together.” Ben reversed direction and headed back toward Sickbay.

Ben

T’Lora nodded, laughing silently. “And I’m meant to be the one with total control,” she murmured. “Let’s go.” She took a deep breath as the two walked into the sickbay she had just left. Squeezing Ben’s hand for a moment, T’Lora stepped up to her DH. “Doctor Brennan? May we speak with you?”
-T’Lora

Sage was just finishing up a turn around the bay, checking on the three patients present. She gave a nod to the shift nurse, turning over responsibility and then smiled at T’Lora and her friend. “Sure, let’s just head into the office where we can have some privacy, okay?” She led the two inside, gestured to the chairs in front of her desk and then sat down. “What can I do for you?”

—Sage

“We’re getting married.” T’Lora spoke so quickly she wasn’t even sure Doctor Brennan could understand her. “Or, we want to get married anyway.” She knew what her family would say, what her father would say, even what other Vulcans would say, but Doctor Brennan was a complete mystery.
-T’Lora

Ben reached over and grasped T’Lora’s hand. “Dr. Brennan, I think what T’Lora would like to say is that we are engaged and would like for your husband, the Captain, to perform the ceremony. Neither of us know much about planning a wedding, but would like to have something small, open to all, with a reception after. We were hoping maybe you could advise us.” Ben sat back in his chair, waiting to see what Dr. Brennan’s reaction would be.”

Ben - A bit nervous

Surprise showed on the CMO’s face. “Well…congratulations, but wasn’t that a little fast?” She leaned back in her chair. “Neither of you have been on board very long, have you?”

—Sage

T’Lora let out a soft sigh and looked at Ben. “I told you so,” she muttered, then turned back to her DH. “No, we haven’t.” She debated what she was going to say for a moment. “It would not be unusual were we both Vulcan. Many Vulcans plan unions within hours of sensing a compatible mind. I was prepared to wait, having been raised on Earth, but I certainly wasn’t going to say no when Ben asked.”
-T’Lora

Ben took a deep breath. “Dr. Brennan, my parents were only engaged for a couple of months before they wed, and their marriage lasted over forty years until their deaths. I have never been more sure of anything in my life. T’Lora is the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. Would you please help us ?” Ben was passionate about what he had said, and as a SO wasn’t given to emotional outbursts, but he had neve been more passionate about anything. He interlaced his fingers with T’Lora’s, on the hand he was holding and felt the engagement ring on her finger.

Ben

Sage looked from the two seated figures down to the top of her desk and tried to compose her words carefully. “I understand love and passion. I’m not just an officer or a doctor, but a woman and a wife.” Here she raised her gaze back to the couple. “I’m not going to try and talk you out of your decision to marry each other. What I said was a curious observation. That’s all.”

In truth, she felt an unwanted pang of jealousy for the intensity of their feelings for each other and all the discoveries to come in their relationship. She and Cal had been together a long time now and it wasn’t the same as it had been starting out.

“I’m not sure how much help I can be—I’ve only planned one other wedding, to the Captain, but I’ll do what I can.”

—Sage

Ben sighed in relief. “We really don’t want anything big or fancy, neither of us have any family. Just a simple ceremony, and a small reception after. Oh, and if you could check if and when the Captain would be available, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.” Ben gave T’Lora’s hand a gentle squeeze, he knew she had dreading telling her DH.

Ben

T’Lora nodded gratefully to Ben, glad he had done the majority of the explaining. It was illogical, certainly, but she spent much of her time locked into maintaining a delicate balance between her species and her culture, and she wasn’t quite sure where to fit a relationship into her balancing act. She knew what she had to do now. “Ben, do you mind if I speak to Doctor Brennan alone?” She was grateful for his presence, but she had to do some things on her own.
-T’Lora

Ben was somewhat taken-aback at first, but felt that if T’Lora needed to speak to her DH privately then it must be important. He squeezed her hand again gently. “No, not at all. I’ll step out into the ward for a bit.” He rose and exited the office, passing several nurses and technicians as he made his way to the far side of Sickbay.

Ben

Sage watched the interaction curiously. Once Ben had left the office, she leaned in to prop her elbows on the desk and fold her hands at chin height. “What’s up, T’Lora? Do you have something in mind you don’t want Wilkenson to know about?”

—Sage

T’Lora shook her head. “Nothing so scandalous doctor. He would simply try to shield me from my blunders if he remained, but I am well aware they will be made.” She twisted her hands in her lap, a nervous tic that could easily be disguised as her thinking. “As I said earlier, I realize it seems sudden. I grew up on Earth, I know how long it can take for a couple to even begin dating, much less become engaged.” She gestured towards the door Ben had exited through. “we made mental contact, accidentally. I sensed the compatibility instantly, but I was prepared to leave it. I have a very long lifespan, and there are a great many beings in the galaxy. If I was not certain that he truly means it, I would not have come before you today, with or without him.” That was more impassioned than she had intended, yet more logical than she had expected herself to be. Perhaps she could continue her balance after all.
-T’Lora

“You don’t need to explain yourself to me, T’Lora. This is a personal decision and I truly wish the two of you the best of luck. Marriage can be really difficult sometimes, but when its good, its life affirming. Cal and I knew each other for several years before we got married, and sometimes I don’t think even that was long enough. You and Wilkenson being willing to make that kind of commitment after only a few weeks is just, scary to me. That’s all.”

—Sage

T’Lora nodded softly. “I admit to being surprised as well.” She stood up. “I should probably go get him before he starts worrying.”
-T’Lora

Sage watched the young Vulcan go and as the doors closed behind her, she sat back in her chair to think. It was true she didn’t believe the young couple should be getting married so soon after meeting, but it was their decision. Thinking back on how long she and Cal had waited, Sage still wasn’t sure it had been long enough or that they had known each other well enough. But did anyone? really?

She drew in a deep breath and let it out as a sigh. Calvin. Their relationship didn’t feel the same as it had before she became the second officer. As always in times when life wasn’t leading her in a positive direction, Sage thought about putting in for a transfer. It wasn’t that she didn’t love her husband, but she couldn’t stand to be stuck in a situation that didn’t have much hope of getting better. She’d been on the Genesis for so many years now that it held no surprises, and her hubby was the CO so even that wall had fallen. The one challenge she wanted to face was motherhood, but there was no chance of her carrying a child and she had no ova to contribute to their offspring. So, what did that leave? Sage picked up her coffee, now cold, and took a drink. She didn’t even grimace at the temperature because her mind was far away.

—Sage

Ben leaned against a vacant bio-bed and crossed his arms. He hoped that T’Lora and Dr. Brennan were making wedding plans, but he doubted it. He sighed and nodded at a passing nurse.

Ben

Ben looked across the room and saw T’lora appear in the office doorway. “Finally”, he thought. Just the sight of her eased his mind somewhat, he was beginning to wish they could just get this over with, get married and begin their life together.

Ben

T’Lora smiled lightly and reached her hand out. She had no doubt tripped over her own words, and in all likelihood, she had left too early, but she was accustomed to such social blunders. Hopefully, her fiance would be forgiving of them.
-T’Lora

Ben grasped the out stretched hand and felt much relief. He had been worried that maybe Dr. Brennan had tried to talk T’Lora out of the marriage, or to wait longer.
“Did you two have your girl to girl chat ? Did Dr. Brennan say she would talk to the Captain ? I just want us to be married and start our life together.” Ben took T’Lora’s other hand and drew her close. “You were talking about a mind meld before, do you still want to do that ?” There were a hundred questions running through Ben’s mind right now and he needed some answers.
