Ben started down the passage way, then realized he wasn’t sure where T’Lora’s quarters were. “Maybe you should lead the way.” He let T’Lora guide him as he held her hand and they proceeded. In his mind he was wondering what her quarters would be like, he knew his were pretty spartan. Maybe doctors had larger living spaces than other crew members. He was also anticipating the mind-meld, wondering what it would be like to know someone’s thoughts and dreams. The idea seemed so very intimate, he quickly scanned his thoughts, was there anything he wouldn’t want T’Lora to know, he couldn’t really think of anything. If he was willing to share his life, his mind was also part of the deal.

Ben

T’Lora laughed, stopping at her door. They stepped inside and she closed her eyes for a moment. Her quarters, although warmer than the rest of the ship were a standard temperature for Vulcans. There was a picture of herself and her father when she was young. The 10-year-old T’Lora was looking at her father and stifling a laugh, but he was grinning widely and openly. There was also a picture of her parents together, her father laughing while her mother rolled her eyes with a grin.
-T’Lora

Ben stepped through the door to T’Lora’s quarters, he immediately noticed the warmer temperature, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. He glanced down at T’Lora, he was enjoying this laughing, smiling side of her. He felt she hadn’t had a lot of laughter in her life. The room was basically the same size as his, an Ensign was an Ensign after all. The only real differences were the decor, the pictures intrigued him, he too had pictures of his family displayed. It was really the only way they both had to help remember those they had lost. Ben pulled T’Lora close, into a hug and looked into her eyes, “I really want to do this, to share my life, my memories, my hopes and dreams, but I just have one question,......... Will it hurt ?”

Ben - Nervous

T’Lora shook her head. “Not in the least. I have heard it described as a magical experience…” She trailed off. “My father once said that it allows two people to transcend from the physical plane.” Her father had also been a poet, so his descriptions were often fanciful.
-T’Lora

Ben grinned, “I didn’t really think it would hurt and even if it did I’d still do it”. He still held T’Lora in a close hug, “I’m ready whenever you are, let’s do this.”

Ben

T’Lora nodded swiftly, suddenly feeling a lump in her throat. How long had it been since she had melded with someone simply because she wished to? She turned the lights down manually and gestured to the floor. T’Lora took one of the cushions from a pile against the wall and passed it to Ben, then grabbed another and sat down. “It’s been a long time.” She smiled sadly, thinking of the touch of her father’s mind.
-T’Lora

Ben took the cushion and sat down cross legged with his hands in his lap. He took a deep breath and tried to relax, realizing he was about to experience something that he knew very little about. He smiled at T’Lora and reached out and took her hand, “I’m a little nervous, but go ahead, I’m ready.”

Ben

T’Lora nodded and settled her right hand on the side of Ben’s face. She took a deep breath, and as she released it she opened her mind. Her mind was well organized, and she would allow Ben to choose where to go. There were memories of her mother, her father, even memories of being told she would have a younger sister. Memories of injuries were categorized together, as was all her medical experience. Her schooling was a section of its own. To him, each topic would appear as a filing cabinet, bookshelf, or some other piece of furniture used to organize.
OOC: Her mind is based on the organizational techniques my family uses. It really does work!
-T’Lora

Ben was suddenly in a room with floor to ceiling bookshelves. He saw that each bookshelf was neatly labeled and all the books appeared to be leather bound with gold lettering, he selected a book from “Childhood Memories ” and suddenly a comfortable chair next to a sunlit window appeared. He sat down, opened the book and began to read. His own mind was a bit less organized, memories of childhood, his parents, his brother, his time at the Academy all appeared as boxes with the topic written across the top, these appeared in a room across a hall from him. He looked and saw T’Lora enter.
OOC: I am retired military and pretty much OCD where organization is involved, but having moved some 26 times, the moving box scenario suggested itself.

Ben

OOC: Highly suggest the bookshelf/filing cabinet structure.
IC:
As Ben opened the book, rushes of memories began to pass. There were flashes of T’Lora’s parents standing over her, memories of being carried by her mother. The book finally settled on a memory of her father teaching her how to write the long curling Vulcan script. Her own looked blocky and clumsy, completely unlike her father’s elegant handwriting, and the three-year-old T’Lora sighed, seeming almost like her adult version. “Don’t worry Lorrie! Skill comes with practice, and we’ve only been at it a couple of hours! You’ll get better. I promise.” Her father had noticed her frustration, and as he spoke her took her small hand in his, helping her to write the artistic letters she would one day master.

T’Lora brushed her hand along the tops of the boxes, feeling echoes of emotion from each. She settled on one, feeling distinct pride and success. She opened the box gently, not even glancing at the label.
-T’Lora

T’Lora had opened the box containing memories of his family, especially his brother. His parents were very loving but due to their jobs had been absent often and Ben and his brother had spent a lot of time with their grandparents on the small ranch his parents owned. These were happy times for both boys, then there was the sadness of the passing of the grandparents, and as Ben grew older he and his brother stayed alone at the ranch while his parents were away. As a result he and his brother were very close, sharing nearly all the secrets of boys growing up. Then there was the Academy and of course the separation there, there was pride in his accomplishments as a martial artist and in becoming a Starfleet officer, then the shock and grief of his family’s death, and the ensuing failure to save his brother by medical personnel. Memories good and bad appeared.

Ben

T’Lora smiled as she watched Ben and his brother, imagining what her own sister might have been like. She began to relax into the memories, lessening the distance between the two. She flinched violently as his brother died, and she was wrenched out of the memories.
-T’Lora

Ben took down volume after volume, some he read through completely and others he merely scanned, he felt T’Lora’s pain at the loss of her mother and sister, He felt the love she had shared with her father, As he read and shared love, pain, and loss he came to know T’Lora in a way few if any ever would and his love for her was now sealed deeper and more securely than any words or ceremony could ever accomplish. He felt her flinch and pulled himself back in concern.

Ben

OOC: I’m going to merge this one and the V’Lath one.
OOC: That’s perfectly fine, I’d been thinking about it myself.
IC:
“I’m fine. It surprised me, that’s all.” She had fallen into the experience, and the rush of emotion had startled her. T’Lora paused, noting some sort of outside influence. “Ben, someone is at the door.”
-T’Lora

Ben sat back. “Is there more we need to do here ? I feel as if I’ve known you since childhood, I heard your father call you Lorrie, a pet name he had for you. I like that, it sounds so much more ..........., well more, than just T’Lora, I mean I love your name, but would you mind if I called you Lorrie, in private of course ?” Ben took T’Lora’s hand and held it. There was so much that they had just shared, he hoped this was the start of a long, happy life together. He squeezed her hand gently, “maybe we should see who’s at the door.

Ben

T’Lora grinned and ducked her head. “I don’t mind being called Lorrie. Even in public.” It had been common on Earth, so she was certain she’d respond to it. “We should definitely see who’s at the door.” She gently disconnected their minds, then opened her eyes and removed her hands. “Let’s go find out, hm?” T’Lora got up and walked to the door. She was surprised to see who was on the other side.
-T’Lora

As V’Lath entered he noticed the young man who was rising from a cushion on the floor. “Ah, you must be the young man that all the rumors are about.” V’Lath had noticed the ring on T’Lora’s finger. “Congratulations to the both of you. I would like to extend an invitation to the both of you to meet me in the lounge for tea, coffee, or whatever you’re preferred beverage is. We can celebrate your engagement, and I would like to quickly check T’Lora for any lingering effects from our recent procedure. It would only take a few seconds at most.” V’Lath stepped forward and extended his hands, his left to T’Lora and his right to Ben. “You are most fortunate to have captured the heart of this young lady, I feel as if she were a daughter to me.” The thought in V’Lath’s mind was, “In more ways than you’ll ever know.”

V’Lath CNS

T’Lora looked at V’Lath, mildly disconcerted. She hadn’t realized rumors would spread so quickly. “I would freely guarantee there are no effects.” She closed her eyes, locking her mind down once again. “Go ahead.”
-T’Lora

V’Lath looked at T’Lora noticing her slight discomfiture. “There is no need for a joining, sometimes there are headaches or bouts of dizziness and disorientation. If you are not experiencing any of those then the procedure is complete and so is the cure.” V’Lath released their hands and stepped back, he had been tempted to probe the young man’s mind, but had resisted it as being unethical. Turning to the young man, “I am V’lath, the counselor on board, and it is a pleasure to meet you, please feel free to drop by my office or find me anywhere on the ship. I would like to get to know you better. The invitation for drinks and conversation still stands, just let me know when.” V’Lath turned to go then turned back, raising his right hand he spread his fingers in the Vulcan greeting, “Peace and long life to you both. I must go, duty calls.” V’Lath exited the door and headed for his office.

V’Lath CNS

Ben stood where he had been during the whole brief encounter. The tall Vulcan counselor had seemed a bit menacing at first, but that may just have been Ben’s reaction to seeing a 6’ 4” tall, bearded Vulcan male for the first time. He had seemed friendly and earnest there at the end. He turned to T’Lora, “What procedure and what cure was he talking about? He seems to be very protective of you, and I wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley if he didn’t like me. I really don’t know what to think of him.” Ben took T’Lora’s hand and drew her close. “Are you all right ?” As Ben held T’Lora the thought occurred to him, “He didn’t even ask my name.”

Ben

T’Lora turned to Ben, taking her eyes off the door. “He is… unusual. He seems to have formed a strong attachment quite quickly. I will admit it is… strange.” She wasn’t quite sure what to think of him either.
-T’Lora

Ben looked at T’Lora closely. “Now what’s this about a procedure and a cure ? I wish we could just get married and get it over with. Did Dr. Brennan ever say anything about talking to her husband ?”

Ben
