Once V’Lat had approached the office of the chief engineer he looked over his clothing, he tried to find any sign of mess or untidiness to find it his uniform was fine and he may just be feeling uncomfortable. After a few seconds, which felt like a lifetime to V’Lat he knocked on the door before asking,
“Ensign Morton Sir.”

He closed his eyes in wait of a reply.

Dagen was like his predecessor and mentor from long ago. He didn’t like his office door closed but always open. At the knock he looked up and saw a tall, young Vulcan standing there. Morton. That didn’t sound like a Vulcan name. There had to be a story there. In his calendar he knew there was transfer crew coming and he had just glanced at the list.

Dagen stood and brought up his fingers in a Vulcan gesture. “Live long and prosper Ensign Morton. Come in. Lets go over your file and see where you’d best fit. Are you familiar with the Genesis layout?” he asked. It was likely a mute point; Vulcans tended to have that sort of thing ‘filed’ away by now.

On the vulcan gesture V’Lat Attempted it but instead had is Index and Pinky finger extended with the ring and middle finger together “Eh, I never learned the hand movement. and yes to the question. I am relatively familiar with the Genesis’s layout, still trying to acquaint myself though” After saying this V’Lat smiled yet still concerned he may hear all the questions he had heard before a thousand times. He looked around the room, “May I have a seat sir?”

‘A dyslexic Vulcan?’ Dagen wondered. “She’s not a big ship but she’s a good ship. And still pretty new.” He withheld the statement that he had helped in her construction. That wasn’t relevant. He gestured to a chair, then bent to take off it a small nanocalibrator and deuterium injector panel that he had been tinkering with. Setting them on the desk he said, “Of course.”

V’Lat in response took a seat, “Thank you very much sir.”

“Have you had a past assignment?” he asked. The Vulcan looked young. Real young. Did he ever look that young? “Did you go through the Vulcan Science Academy or Starfleet?” He knew they were cross functional and Vulcan had certain .. leeway.
- Dagen, CE

He smiled and gave a response that seems quite rehearsed “Starfleet Academy, I have never been to Vulcan. I bet there will be a few questions linked to that statement.” V’Lat analysed nanocalibrator and deuterium injector and looked at them with familiarity.

Pulling a chair around so that he’d not be ‘behind’ it looking all officious, the pale Trill took a seat and pushed aside his unruly mop that had slumped to his forehead. “Oh, only if you do not otherwise continue. Please do. Where then did you grow up?” V’Lat would note that several components had been removed from the injector and were strewn about the top of the desk in a fashion that would drive anyone remotely OCD to distraction.

OOC: Going to get you into the main sim soon ..

“Oh of course!” V’Lat Exclaimed “I was born on and raised on a starship, the USS Tauri. My biological parents died in a shuttle accident, a simple malfunction, something that could have been avoided with simple oversight. Well, enough of that for now, I was raised by human parents in the ship until I was 11 when they retired and moved to Earth. I loved Earth, it became home very quick, and everyone there is so nice.” The vulcan smiled with nostalgia, “But I think ships is where I belong.”

OOC: Thank you, hope I’m doing well at this. This is my first assignment at all.

That was a lot to take in. Was Morton ‘gushing’? Not to mention exclaiming various terms that in all Thor’s hosts had never known expressed from a Vulcan. His story was similar to but different from Reia’s on being raised by humans. But how he was taken in by humans and not returned to Vulcan to relatives was a story in itself he supposed. And perhaps the episode brought in a ‘logical’ - or ‘emotional’ reason for his going into engineering. He put that aside for the moment, really not sure what to do with his ‘smile’ at the end. Asking him about all that background and all was likely more for the counselor to sort out and understand. Not to change mind you, but to understand.

“I find Earth to be ..” he shrugged, “.. okay.” The Trill smiled. “The blue sky always looks strange to me.” His fingertips tapped the tabletop lightly. “The Genesis is new, or pretty new and still considered state of the art for a small science exploratory ship. She’s a good ship for you to cut your teeth on and practice all those things from the Academy. Do you have any particular areas of interest or specialties or things that you want to work on while here?”
- Dagen, CE

He gave a bright smile in reply, “Oh yes, Cryogenics. I study cryogenic storage and quantum containment.” He tapped his lip as he tried to think of more fields he was good in, “I also worked on an alternative fuel, instead of Deuterium, Anti-Deuterium anti matter reactors we could use Tralphium, Anti-Tralphium reactors. It’s only seventy two percent as efficient I know, but it’s safer and cooler” he thought for a moment before he corrected himself, “Cool as in temperature of course.”
