Thomas strolled up to the door to the Counselor’s office and rang the chime. If the message he’d received (and sent) the night before had revealed anything, it’s that he was not in the best mental place, and hadn’t been for a while now.

V’Lath had just freshened his coffee and sat back down behind his desk when he heard the door chime. He had let his aide NE PO Wixen have the day off, so he called out “Enter”. Looking up as the door slid open, he saw LCdr McGregor, “Mr. McGregor, please come in. How can I help you today ?” V’Lath gestured to the two comfortable chairs next to the fireplace. “Can I get you anything, coffee, tea, juice?” V’Lath saw from the look on the Cdr’s face that this probably wasn’t a get acquainted visit.

“Not for now, Counselor,” Thomas said, taking a seat but leaning forward, elbows resting on his thighs just above his knees.

“I’ve got a family issue,” he began, slowly.

V’Lath quickly pulled up COS’s medical and psychological profiles. “I gather that since there are no siblings, and you are single that this is most likely a parental issue.” V’Lath noticed an almost purple aura surrounding the Cdr., which he had learned meant emotional distress to some degree. “Cdr. I see here that you rarely take any leave and the last councilor mentions extreme devotion to duty.” V’Lath took a sip of his coffee. “Why don’t you tell me what the problem is and we’ll see if we can’t come up with a solution.” Experience had taught V’Lath that many times just being a good listener or sounding board had a beneficial effect.

OOC: He’s got three siblings, it’s in his bio.

IC: “It’s… mostly a parental issue,” Thomas said. “I haven’t been home since my mother’s funeral, and it’s mostly because I blame my father for her death. But he sent me a holiday message with my brothers and sister, and their significant others, and a gentle admonition not to separate myself from them, at least, regardless of how I feel about him. And I felt bad, because I have been ignoring them, too, but also angry that he would use a message like that to send that kind of message in the first place.”
