It was now several days past the holiday celebration and both T’Lora and himself had been busy with regular duties and making arrangements for the reception. A wedding announcement had been sent out to the whole crew and Ben realized that in just a couple of days he would be married to the most wonderful woman in the entire universe. As he wandered down the passageway on deck 8, he was greeted by several crewmembers who congratulated him or teased him about his days of freedom were numbered. He continued to check various areas of the ship in a random manner, as developing a pattern was often detrimental to his job. As he poked into a cross passage, he thought about his DH LCdr McGregor, he had seemed a little “off” the last day or so and Ben had tried to take on more of the routine office work in an attempt to ease the pressure a bit. He sighed as he headed back to the Security office, then smiled when he thought of T’Lora as he felt the engagement pendant with his fingers where it hung around his neck, under his uniform.

Just then the tall auburn haired CSO came around a corner, almost barreling into Ben.

“Excuse me Ensign but please pay attention to where you are going!” David grumbled, his tone a little snippy. Then man gave an exasperated sigh and shook his head begrudgingly.

“I apologize,” David said. “I didn’t mean to snap at you.” He paused, eyeing Ben. “You seem rather distracted.”

-David Michaels, CSO

As Ben rounded the corner he was nearly run into by someone, his immediate reaction was to fall into a ready stance, prepared to either defend or attack, this was just muscle memory not anything he consciously thought about. He recognized the CSO and relaxed. “Sorry sir, I am a bit distracted, I’ve got a wedding coming up and my DH seems to have a problem of some sort, not quite his usual self. ” What bothered Ben the most was the fact that he hadn’t been aware of the CSO approaching around the corner, something he normally would have caught. He would have to pay closer attention to his surroundings,

“Wedding… right…” David said, his expression softening and his eyes getting a faraway look in them. “Riley would have loved a wedding…” He looked sad for a moment, but then seemed to snap out of it, shaking his head.

“I can understand being distracted,” David said. “I’m sure you have a lot of preparation to go through.” He paused, looking at Ben curiously. “Have you tried speaking to Lieutenant McGregor about your concerns? I have always found him to be an excellent department head and a rather reasonable man.”

-David Michaels, CSO

“I haven’t approached him directly about anything, I’ve just tried to take over some of the more mundane tasks we do to try and let him have more time to deal with whatever is bothering him.” Ben sighed. “I can’t really put my finger on anything, he just seems a bit preoccupied at times.”

Ben SO

“I’m sure he would welcome the conversation,” David said. “Taking initiative is always welcomed from a department head, trust me.” He gave Ben a quick smile. “So, feeling the wedding jitters are we? Maybe there’s some way you can let go of your nerves and clear your head a bit. What are some of your hobbies?” David didn’t know too much about Ben, but helping people to have a good time was always something he was good at. Maybe it was the part of Riley that he still kept inside him, but lately he had been feeling very intuitive about people’s emotions. If there was some way he could help Ben, he would do his best to try.

Ben reflected for a moment on what the CSO had said. “I think I will talk to him about it, just tell him that I’ve noticed that something has been bothering him and can I do anything to help.” Ben felt relieved to have made a decision, his DH might tell him to mind his own business, but at least he had tried. ” I don’t know if you’d call it a hobby, but I’ve studied martial arts since I was around five and try to collect antique weapons on a limited basis.” Ben was beginning to like the CSO. He seemed like he genuinely cared.

Ben was back in his quarters going over what he felt was necessary before the wedding, which was only a day or two away. He and T’Lora had sent a general invitation to the entire crew and Ben had made arrangements for the reception in the lounge. He still didn’t know what to wear, as he had no idea what T’Lora was going to wear. He needed to talk to her, so he headed for sickbay.

Ben arrived in sickbay and began looking for T’Lora. Several of the nurses and medical techs knew him by now and he exchanged greetings as he delved deeper into sickbay.

T’Lora smiled to Ben with a slight sigh, having taking two duty shifts in a row. “Hi Ben.”
