After having left the Counselor’s officer, Thomas had made a quick query to the computer as to the Captain’s location, relieved to learn he was still in his ready room. That was good, it would be awkward having to do something like this in the man’s quarters.

Making his way up to the Bridge, he walked over to the Ready Room door and pushed the chime.

“It’s not locked.” Marius replied as means of invitation. In fact he can’t remember if he every locked the door. Then he shrugged, there was one time, when he took a nap. He locked the door then because he didn’t want his crew to see him sleeping. It was a weird thing that he wanted to hide. Everyone needed to sleep, but he just thought it would make him look weak.

Marius.

“Hello, Captain,” Thomas said, stopping just inside the door and letting it close behind him. “Do you have a moment?”

COS

“Of course Commander, what can I help you with?” Marius having a bunch of marriages happening. He looked up hopefully.

Marius

“Nothing fun for either of us, I’m afraid,” Thomas said, wincing at the Captain’s hopeful look. “I need to take some emergency personal leave. The Counselor has diagnosed an issue that I can’t resolve without direct confrontation with the cause, which is currently back on Earth.”

COS

“Nobody ever visits me with cake.” He continued, “Hi Captain, Great job.. here’s cake.”

“That sounds vague, and exactly what can a counselor diagnose 1000 light years away? I don’t like sending my officers off to deal with political intrigue… even if I know what’s going on, which I don’t.”

Marius

“The diagnosis was of me, Captain,” Thomas said. “I’ve been feeling off for a while, and a holiday message I got from my father just set off a cascade of feelings I’ve been trying to hold down for more than three years now. It’s nothing political, I just need to go punch my father in the face, then shout at him for being a selfish ass and killing my mother. The Counselor thinks only direct, personal confrontation will sort everything out, probably because if we tried to do it via subspace comm we’d both just end up hanging up on each other and never actually finishing the conversation.”
