Captain's Ready Room - Personal Request

“Nothing fun for either of us, I’m afraid,” Thomas said, wincing at the Captain’s hopeful look. “I need to take some emergency personal leave. The Counselor has diagnosed an issue that I can’t resolve without direct confrontation with the cause, which is currently back on Earth.”

COS

“Nobody ever visits me with cake.” He continued, “Hi Captain, Great job.. here’s cake.”

“That sounds vague, and exactly what can a counselor diagnose 1000 light years away? I don’t like sending my officers off to deal with political intrigue… even if I know what’s going on, which I don’t.”

Marius

“The diagnosis was of me, Captain,” Thomas said. “I’ve been feeling off for a while, and a holiday message I got from my father just set off a cascade of feelings I’ve been trying to hold down for more than three years now. It’s nothing political, I just need to go punch my father in the face, then shout at him for being a selfish ass and killing my mother. The Counselor thinks only direct, personal confrontation will sort everything out, probably because if we tried to do it via subspace com we’d both just end up hanging up on each other and never actually finishing the conversation.”

COS

“Oh my,” Calvin paused. “Start with the jab, a hook or uppercut is so slow even if you have surprise they can counter. Then when he’s stunned go to the big swings.” He tilted his head.

“More seriously, physical aggression might make you feel better for the moment, it doesn’t actually solve anything. Your therapist probably has said the same.”

“He didn’t actually recommend I hit him, being a Vulcan and all,” Thomas replied. “But since he’s a Vulcan, he probably isn’t capable of understanding the need to hit someone in the first place.”

COS

“Vulcan therapists.... ” He shook his head. “I never got it. Sometimes you just want someone to b#tch at and Vulcans… I always felt that they were judging you for the need to vent…”

“I think he probably does get that urge. I just think he doesn’t think highly of the need. Like its a weakness.” He looked at McGregor, “Well of course you can go.”

Marius

“Thank you, Captain,” Thomas said. “It really shouldn’t take too long, hopefully just a month, and most of that will be travel time. Besides,” he said, with a small smile. “With you and the XO both being former Security chiefs, it’s not like I’m leaving the ship completely unguarded, right?”
