=^=I’m transmitting our sensor data. We took some samples and the results were, shall we say interesting. It seems to be either a birthing husk or a shell formed after death, in any case, Lieutenant DeNaris informs me that it’s comprised almost entirely out of unknown material originating from Subspace=^=

XO

=^=Okay, sounds reasonable, anything else?=^= Marius had presumed as much. =^=Although there is a difference between, death and birthing husk.=^=

Marius

As the information came in, the computer began to create possible scenarios with respect to the nature of the creature. It would take a little more time as there were parameters that needed to be set by a sentient being to narrow down the more realistic possibilities.

GM

“Keep us ahead of that creature. No matter what.” Marius nodded towards the helm.

Marius

The computer link with the runabout showed the results from the analysis. As the ship moved closer to the anomaly, sensors were able to make out that it was some kind of spatial tear. Sensors would show that the special matter that made up the creature’s species was also present from within the tear in the fabric of space at the anomaly.

GM

“The anomaly appears to be a spatial tear,” David announced. “I’m detecting the same matter from the creature within the tear.” He paused. “Maybe this is the creatures home?” He asked curiously.

-David Michaels, CSO

Ben kept watching the tactical display and relaying course and speed adjustments to the helm to keep them ahead of the creature. He thought to himself, “Surely we aren’t going to follow the creature into the anomaly.”

Ben SO

Reia glanced at David, his supposition made perfect sense but, then again, she wasn’t a scientist.

  • Reia, CIO

“Makes sense,” Marius agreed with the general theory, “but it isn’t proven. Can we get a little more fact with that theory.” Marius looked off. “If baby is going home, then I don’t see why we need to do anything aside from watch and report to Star-Fleet science.”

He looked to Sage, “Want to send a probe through too… get some information on what’s on the other side of that thing.”

Marius

8 hours from the last ‘hurried jump’, the pattern of the increase of energy within the creature and the building up of energy to produce a magneton pulse, the sensors alerted the crew to the next jump.

15 minutes later, the creature disappeared from sensors. This time, the sensors were able to detect the formation of a wormhole that the creature snugly went into. A minute later, the creature appeared one light year ahead from its last position. It was still trailing behind the Genesis.

OOC: I am sorry for the absence. Family matters needed to be taken care of. I will be declaring an LOA until 8 Jan.

GM

OOC: This has been the season of crisis. Hope things are well.

Luke

OOC: Things have settled down. My mother was suddenly taken ill and was hospitalised. They suspected COVID and we were all placed on alert. It turns out the tests were negative and it was her weak heart. She’s still in hospital but at least she’s out of ICU.

IC:

The ship was just about 18 hours away from the anomaly. The creature was still trailing behind. The next jump (in 10 hours), according to the computer’s projection, should put it ahead of the Genesis and about one hour away from the anomaly.

GM

OOC: Welcome back, (non) relaxed posting season has ended lets see everyone pick back up on this thread.

Luke

Ben kept checking the tactical screen and the information displayed there. “Captain, course and speed projections show the creature will be ahead of us if the jumps it’s been making continue. I’ve projected where it will be in relation to us as the red and blue lines on the viewscreen, blue being us and red the creature.”

Ben SO

David didn’t have anything of importance to add at the moment. It felt as though they had just been watching a creature travel in a unique manner through subspace. They’d collected quite a bit of sensor data on the travel method, whether or not such a method could be adapted for a starship was another question entirely. He wondered if the creature was indeed going home, or was this something else entirely?

-David Michaels, CSO

“Lets get a class 7 probe to get a peek at the spacial tear.” Marius nodded towards Michaels. “Do we have something else?”

marius

Ben’s fingers flew over the tactical console. “Sir, probe is ready to launch on your command.” Ben was somewhat relieved that they were going to send a probe into the tear, his initial fear was that they might attempt to follow the creature themselves.

Ben SO

<After the launch of the probe>

The probe reached the coordinates programmed into it and began to stream data back to the Genesis.

The other side of the tear was a subspace domain. The tear was relatively stable but showed that it was gradually getting smaller. From the rate, it would close completely in 4 days. If the creature were to follow its present course, it would reach the tear in less than a day, and the tear was still large enough for it to enter.

There was a low frequency - small amplitude subspace signal that was being transmitted through the tear. This signal was that which was detected by the Genesis. The amplitude of the signal was also decreasing very gradually. When the Genesis used the same frequency to try to communicate with the creature, it caused the creature to increase the rate of its movement.

From sensor data, the computer hypothesised that there were a few creatures similar to the one that was behind them on the other side of the tear. It was 70% certain, based on the amount of similar matter detected through the tear. The matter was not stationary but moving about. The energy signatures were similar as well.

There was also the presence of two additional energy signatures that the computer did not have any records of. They were linked to subspace but the computer was unable to determine what function these signatures had.

GM

bump

“What’s your opinion of pushing the probe through and sending out generic friendship communication codes?” Marius questioned.

Marius

OOC: NB Remember what happened the last time?

GM

“That didn’t seem to go so well that last time we tried that,” David said. “I’m detecting two energy signatures but they are of unknown origin. My best guess is that the creature is simply trying to return home.”

-David Michaels, CSO

Some time later, the creature began to raise its energy levels. It was preparing for another jump.

GM

“We are doing a lot of waiting.” Marius opined. “They don’t give you any lessions in command school about taking it easy and letting the universe come to you.”

Marius

=^= Engineering to bridge. Thor here. The creature is readying for another jump =^= Which was rather stating the obvious. =^= This will put it ahead of the Genesis in this jump. Our current speed will allow us to catch up to it, but if you want to get ahead we’ll need to increase speed. =^=
- Thor, CE

=^=I don’t know how much rpm’s we have left in those engines=^= Marius countered.

“Put the drives against the firewall, Helm.” Marius ordered.

The sensors were indeed picking up the changes. As per the last ‘jump’, the sensors were picking up the energy buildup that would eventually become a magneton pulse.

GM

“What’s going to happen with this Magneton Pulse?”

Marius

OOC: Read https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Magneton_pulse for details …

IC: It did not take very long but there was a burst of polarised magnetic energy from the creature that created what might be called a ‘tear’ in the fabric of space and created a small wormhole big enough for it to go through. The burst of energy seemed to come from the foremost tip of its body. It was not as large in magnitude as that which is caused by a damaged warp core, but its energy was intense enough to create the wormhole.

Moments later, the creature entered the wormhole, which was amazing to behold. The creature seemed to be there one moment and gone the next. Ahead of the Genesis, about 54 billion kilometres, the creature emerged. First there was a disturbance in the fabric of space and then a burst of energy at the point of the disturbance. A tear formed, and the creature emerged and the tear closed. The energy detected from the burst was a magneton pulse. A lot of data was received by the sensors. Including the magnitude and amplitude of the energy burst as well as the magnetic intensity of the burst that caused the ‘tear’ or wormhole.

GM

Reia maintained her position on the bridge. Her eyes were the 5th or 6th pair to look over whatever science was bringing in but it couldn’t hurt… Could it?

  • Reia, CIO

The computer crunched up the data and certain things were clear: The creature was able to produce a magneton pulse to ‘tear’ space to form a wormhole. Then it went through it to get to another part of space. The magneton pulse was smaller than a warp core breach and so the wormhole formed was small and temporary. The sensors retrieved enough data to form a hypothesis regarding the energy needed to open an artificial and temporary wormhole. What the data could not decipher was how the creature was able to direct the wormhole to open where it wanted it to.

GM

“If the creature can just open subspace, why doesn’t it ‘go home’ from where it is as opposed to traveling to another point in space to push out of our dimension?” Calvin asked the assorted scientists who should know more than him.

Marius

Reia wasn’t a scientist by any means but the answer seemed obvious from her perspective.

“Have we determined that this is a young one? If so, it’s probably not strong enough Captain.” Reia spoke up.

  • Reia

“We found material that looked like an egg in the nebula… ”

Marius

OOC: Just pasting my post and adding …

OOC: Some one from science could explain that the wormholes created are not entrances in subspace. Rather it is a link between two points in space. Its iike the ladders or snakes in the old board game, “Snakes and Ladders”. The tear into subspace is a totally different matter.

IC: As the creature went nearer to the spatial anomaly, the sensors began to pick up various energy signals from the other side of the tear. The strongest of those signals was similar to the signal that the Olinski had used to try to communicate with the creature and resulting in it moving faster. Although same in frequency, the signal pattern was slightly different. This caused the creature to slow down. It started to build up energy within itself. In so doing, its mass was slowly decreasing.

The other signals were different in that they were like ‘drifting’ through the tear. The strong signal almost seemed to be being transmitted. These ‘passive’ signals changed in that their amplitudes were getting more intense, as if they were having more movement. A few signals that matched that of the creature itself. The others were significantly different.

GM

OOC: I apologize for my absence. Ive been dealing with some health issues. I’m a bit confused as to what we are supposed to be doing here I really am sorry.

IC:
David looked up. “The wormholes aren’t exactly entrances, but these tears in subspace is a different matter.” He paused, looking at the data coming in. “I’m detecting a bunch of signals from the other side of the tear. One is very similar to the one we encountered earlier that I guessed might be some kind of communication. There’s other signals as well but they’re moving and changing.” He sighed. “I’m sorry, Captain, I can’t make heads or tails of any of this. I haven’t seen anything like this before.”

-David Michaels, CSO

“Stick it through the auto–translator… see what happens.” Marius didn’t have any great ideas either.

Marius

The computer was not able to translate it into words. However, it was able to find the pattern of the modulation of the frequency. It had similarities to the earth’s bird calls. The creature itself was also responding with a different signal pattern, although at the same frequency. It also noted that the amplitude of the signal was gradually getting weaker as the creature moved nearer to the spatial anomaly, whereas the creature’s signal remained the same.

GM

Ben scanned the tactical display and adjusted the course plot just a hair. With the drives at max they should catch up to the creature shortly. “Captain, I’m certainly no scientist, but all our data seems to indicate an adolescent creature returning to it’s home environment after hatching in a remote nesting site. I hope that if there are adult creatures inside the anomaly they don’t think we’re chasing their youngster or endangering it in any way. Just as a precaution we might want to raise shields.” Ben also checked that the phaser and torpedo systems were operational and in standby mode, all though not armed. He certainly hoped this was just a peaceful scientific scenario, but as a SO he would rather err on the side of caution.

Ben SO

Just at that time, the away team sent some information they had gathered. Their sensors detected two unknown particles, and tachyons and tetryons. The patterns showed that the ‘hole’ which the creature traveled through was something between a subspace rift and a subspace corridor. From the data obtained, it was possible to begin thinking about an engine that could make use of subspace to go even faster than warp.

GM

“is it just because the distance is decreasing that signal strength is going down? Or is something going wrong?” He glanced over to the science and tactical stations?

Marius

According to the sensor records, the decrease of the signal was proportional to the distance of the creature from the anomaly.

GM

Marius rubbed his chin… That was information, but not exculpatory information as it didn’t really tell them something they didn’t know.

As the creature neared the tear, about 500 thousand kilometres, it slowed and its body began to increase in energy. The sensors were reading more of one of the unknown particles and tetryons being produced as part of its body. In fact, according to the sensors, the body began to ‘glow’ with those particles. It took about 15 minutes for the creature to be completely converted. As it became completely converted, there were tendrils emitting the other particles stretching out from the tear. As the tips of it came out of the tear, there were bursts of energy, disintegrating those tips. According to the sensors, the energy signatures were consistent with subspace incursions into normal space. The creature had a final burst of energy and moved very quickly into the tear. The sensors were able to track it. The tendrils tried to catch it but the creature was too quick for them. The creature completely entered the tear and for some ten seconds, the Genesis’s sensors were able to track it.

Then the tear started to close. As it closed, the probe that was relaying data to the ship was sucked into the tear. As it entered, one of the tendrils made contact with it and it exploded. Before it did, there was a wealth of data that was transmitted about the tear and what was in it. According to the computer’s calculation, the tear would close completely in seven minutes.

GM

Marius watched mesmerized. It was like watching a birth… for this creature a second birth or at least a home coming . “I presume we got all of that on tape right?”

Marius

As the tear closed, an NE at the auxiliary science station said, “It was lucky we decided to send a probe, just imagine if one of our shuttles were there trying to do reconnaissance!”

GM

Seven minutes later, the tear closed completely and the surrounding space remained quiet. There was no clue as to what had happened except for the tell-tale signs of tetryons being present and slowly dissipating.

OOC: With this I declare the sim ended. As the Genesis is exploring unexplored space, the next sim would also be something unknown. I have it already set up.
