Magnus relaxed his shoulders, he hadn’t realised he had tensed them to the point of near-shaking. He wasn’t sure if he was still outraged at the planned invasion of this system, astonished by their decision to start firing or amused by their absolute lack of technological capabilities, perhaps all options. He turned to the Captain “Commander Dagen’s enthusiasm aside I believe we still have Directive 010 to deal with. I recommend a firm final warning that they are seriously outmatched. I believe that would satisfy any and all attempts to achieve a nonmilitary resolution”

XO

Marius looked over at him. “I’m not going to engage them in battle. I don’t like bullies that includes being one.”

Power spiked at the Lesscoo ships. One of them lowered shields. The Genesis’s computers were able to predict where the lasers were aiming at. They were aiming at the deflector shields. Then the lasers discharged. It took 0.75 seconds for the shields to be raised after the shot.

As it was expected, the lasers merely dissipated once it came into contact with the Genesis’s shields.

GM

=^= Aye, sir.. Oop. =^=

Kesh’s response to the chief engineer is jostled by the flash of energy discharge having at least some effect on the ship’s systems. It was not much of an affect, but it still got her inner ears a bit flushed. They just fired at us!

A short puff of breath took the edge off that immediate surge of anger that came with being attacked, though Kesh already knew it was going to take more than breathing exercises to lower her hackles entirely. Hopefully, no one does anything that might further agitate her.

=^= Mmmnnm. Even at minimum stable power output on the phaser arrays, the computer predicts hull penetration within point five seconds. =^=

Of course, having low power output and completely ineffectual weapons does not preclude these aggressive aliens having particularly good defensive capabilities. But, it’s very unlikely.

->Kesh, Engineering

=^=Lesscoo ship, please disengage.=^= Marius had a dozen things to say to make the situation worse, but he already gotten what he wanted and act of war that pretty much gave him permission to stay here and do whatever he wanted. =^=We mean you no harm, we are an exploratory vessel on a mission of peace. But we will defend ourselves if forced.=^=

“Lets give them some space… pull back 30,000 kilometers.”

Marius looked about, “My guess is a shuttle craft would be able to win an engagement with these ships?”

Marius.

Tom had never actually been in an encounter with an aggressive opponent, who’d already started attacking, where stepping back while talking actually got them to cease hostilities.

“If back pedaling doesn’t work I suggest gaining position to align at least two of them and calculate a firing resolution that will strip both of their shields without making contact with their hulls.” Tom said quietly to Marius, “Or tuck out tail, run, and monitor them from a distance.”

Tom had wanted to say bark at them from a distance but he didn’t want to antagonize anyone that much at that moment.

  • Tom, IntSec

Reia was about to laugh but stopped herself.

“Actually I’d love for them to do that again. Then, perhaps, we should just beam one of them over here and show them exactly what they’re up against, close and personal. Show them how easily they can be subjugated, if you will, sir.”

Reia had never spoken this harshly on the bridge before. She was used to going in quietly, getting her job done, and being back before anybody noticed she was gone. Of course, that could work too.

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

Although Magnus did share the Intelligence Chief’s attitude towards the situation the Captain had made his thoughts on the matter clear, he slowly turned to her, a slight frown on his face “We are not here to harm these beings and imprisonment is an injury beyond our scope” He did speak softly making sure that he wasn’t truly admonishing her “But I think Commander” He looked at the face of the man who he could never remember, only knowing who he was because of a notebook he kept in his quarters “Jarvis” He said hesitantly “has the right of it, disabling their shields without damaging their ships is a good option, Commander Thor recommended a 20% Charge”

XO

Reia returned the XO’s slight frown. She understood him but thought her idea still had merit. They would still be talking with the other species after all, just in a completely different fashion. However she really didn’t feel like arguing with her superior today so, she nodded and turned back to her station.

  • Reia. CIO/Comms

Marius nodded as the XO spoke, “When the time comes weapons, shields, and propulsion. I don’t want them wandering away when they are no longer in a position to be assaultive.” He was going to get some answers and now he had the excuse to do so. “Zero casualties, Number 1.”

marius

OOC: I am assuming that helm obeyed the back peddling order …

IC: At 30,000 kilometres retreat, the Lesscoo ships remained where they were.

=/\=We will not pursue if you leave the system. We merely do not want you in our space. Please continue to retreat or else we will continue to fire. Consider this a friendly warning.=/\=

GM

=^=You left friendly after you fired on us. We expect to speak to your superiors, while we assess our options.=^=

There was silence over comms. Sensors also indicated that they were beginning to power up their weapons again.

“Take us about the reverse of the planet. I want to be in position to put a landing party down and to investigage. Do we have any information on whether or not they have transporter tech or the ability to detect a beam down?”

Marius

Adam turned to the Science and Comms station for the reply. The situation was almost as grim as it was amusing but he knew that even a mosquitos sting could be dangerous and these beings were certainly the mosquitos in this.

XO

The reverse of the planet was currently at dusk. One of the two ships broke formation to trail the Genesis. It kept the Genesis at line of fire but also at a distance.

GM

Reia glanced at one of the side monitors and wondered what that ship was hoping to accomplish.

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

“I’m going to need you on the bridge, Number One. Let’s get Brennan up here and up to speed so she can put the landing party together.”

=^=Commander Brennan to the Bridge.=^= When she arrive Marius would put her up to speed on the information so far.

Marius

Magnus quickly suppressed a grimace that was about to form on his face, it was the Captain’s privilege to set the Away Team. He simply nodded and spoke “Yes, Captain” His voice hadn’t changed from its almost cheerfulness.

XO

OOC: I’m going to assume someone called her

IC:
Sage came onto the bridge after being called there. She still wasn’t used to spending time up there, especially if she wasn’t just observing. Walking up to the command chairs, she addressed Marius. “Captain, you wished to see me?”

—Sage

Magnus flashed a friendly smile at Sage and stood to the side getting out of her way, this would be her first official mission as second officer, a better idea the more he considered it.

XO

Marius ran through the deals, “We have pushy race Lessecos who have already taken a pot shot at us, because we didn’t move fast enough when they claimed this space, and this planet… of another race as their own to ‘subjugate’ their words. I want to get a team down there and figure out what they know, if they are an offshoot of Lessecos or if they have some other claim to the planet. I don’t believe the prime directive forces us to leave a planet to get subjugated by another warp power race so we are on pretty good footing there… less so about playing inside another race’s territory… so find something useful.”

He paused for questions… “Get your team together.”

“So there’s no problem with us being armed or with them seeing us? Or would you like us to stay in the shadows?”

“Armed is fine, I’d rather you keep your identities to yourselves as best you can. They only reason I’m clearing contact is if we don’t say hi now, they are going to be on the receiving end of an alien invasion.” If they are lucky, the Lessco ships could destroy the planet from orbit… it would take a while, but they could do it. “So we not breaking the prime directive, we are just being pro-active against someone whose about to.”

:Number One, find a way for us to break sensor contact for a few seconds so we can get the team down undetected.”

Marius

Sage looked to the officer running coms. “Send a notification to Cmdr McGregor to meet me in transporter room one with hand phasers for himself and three others. Lts Shandy and Park, you’re with me.”

=^=Lt. McGregor report to transporter room one with phasers for three.=^= she commed quickly.

As she prepared to leave the bridge, she sent the following text down to engineering.

‘Away mission. Don’t hold dinner.’

  • Reia, CIO/Comms

A note came from Engineering regarding the Lescoo ships =^= Inertial dampers developing. Likely need hand holds or straps on maneuvers. Estimate their maneuvering ability to be limited. Likely no cup holders. Still sussing out what they have. =^=
Dagen, CE

“That’s something,” So despite their relatively small size the Genesis could out maneuver and out run them.

Kesh takes a certain amount of pride in her understanding and mastery of the common human language used by Starfleet as its primary tongue. Despite decades of using it and only activating the Universal Translator when absolutely necessary, there are still moments when a word or phrase just… doesn’t click.

The felinoid’s head tilts to one side, then the other, staring down at her console as if it had all the secrets laid there upon it, after hearing her CO’s words.

Rather than risk misunderstanding, a quieted inquiry is spoken. =^= Kesh to Dagen. What is ‘sussng’? =^=

=^= Um exploring, figuring out =^= Dagen replied =^= Like you trying to ‘suss’ out what I just said, sorta. =^=

That… makes… sense? Kesh opens her maw, shuts it, then rattles her head, realizing this was too unimportant to pursue right now. “Yes, ah… Thank you, sir.” And then she lets the channel close while getting back to system monitoring.

Never mind the whole ‘cup holders’ quip. That much she did understand.

-> Kesh Engineering

Tom stepped forward to stand near the Captain and XO.

“I can help with the sensor issue. I can have them chasing a sensor ghost of us while we drop the away team. We’ll just have to keep them within one hundred thousand kilometers. It should give us enough time to dip down, beam the landing party down, then return the the ghosts position before dropping the electronic deception. Alternative sensor feeds are a trick I learned in Internal Security and have made good use of.” Tom said with confidence.

  • Tom, IntSec

The sensor display on the tactical station showed that the Lesscoo ship was trying to probe the hull of the Genesis. However, their sensors was not able to penetrate the durum and titanium alloy.

GM

Sage left the bridge and headed for transporter room one.

—Sage

Communications with the Lesscoo ships, being monitored, revealed new communications. The ships were asking when the reinforcements would arrive.

GM

“We can out run and use the sensor ghost to break contact…” He nodded. “Maneuver and project as needed.”

Marius

Dagen sent a note up =^= If they are asking when reinforcements would arrive, it might unnerve them if we told them what their ETA was with how many ships =^=
- Dagen

Marius laughed.

Kesh just quietly listens to the progress of the encounter, coming up with no good ideas how else to approach it. So, good thing no one’s going to ask her for advice.

-> Kesh, Engineering

The reply from the Lesscoo system was that the two ships they had sent out as reinforcements were estimated to arrive at their position in 70 minutes.

GM

Magnus smiled at the Chief Engineers suggestion “I like it, it might make them wary of sending ship-to-ship communiqes, throw that in with the Sensor ghost and we should be able to get the Away team to the surface with relative ease.” He offered to the Captain.

XO

He shook his head. “No lets keep the fact that we are inside their secret communications to ourselves… if anything I want them to talk to each other more not less. We are deriving more intelligence from that then the amusement of the chaos we would cause by letting them know. In fact we are learning more about them this way than any talk we actually had with them..”

Marius

Tom had moved to tactical and pulled communications functions to the same station. He began monitoring and parsing communications among the Lesscoo as he set up the sensor ghost. He cross checked the sensor information on the Lesscoo ships with his adjustments on the sensor ghost he was creating to create a perfect ghost for the Lesscoo to chase as they deposited the away team.

  • Tom, IntSec

The Lesscoo communications showed that the sensor ghost worked. The fact that they had to move their ships according to where the ghost seemed to be, showed how primitive their sensors were.

Magnus nodded “I did have that thought but I do believe that that cat’s out of the bag on that one, Sir” He said quietly “When you asked them about the word ‘subjugation’ and they thoroughly freaked out” He looked at the unfamiliar officer do his work as they prepared for this moderately daring plan, overcomplicated just so they wouldn’t harm the less advanced aliens, possibly the most Starfleet plan he’d ever seen in action.

XO

Lesscoo communications showed that they ships had ignored the real Genesis.

GM

“Good, good.” Marius always was amazed when they could basically make a ship disappear. “Lets drop the landing party off and then double back to the sensor ghost. I’d like to keep that one in the pocket just in case we need it later.”

Marsh

Magnus nodded then took a step forward “Conn, get us in orbit, the Transporter Chief should have coordinates picked out and on your console” He looked back “Keep a close eye on their comms” He’d given his advice and now it was time to execute the Captains will.

XO

Marius looked over to Magnus… “What do you think about Warping out and meeting their reinforcements away from the planet? The ships here would have to follow, to support their buddies. And we would find out what they are going to do earlier away from the planet… then if we want to pull our away team back we out run them back?” Marius considered, of course that would leave the landing party on their own… but what could go wrong....

“Opinions” He opened the idea to questions from the bridge.

Marius

Tom fed navigation data to the helm to precisely align with the sensor ghost before dropping the ruse.

  • Tom, IntSec

?

“It could work, in case they don’t follow we can drop the Fighter we have and leave it to keep them occupied, they shouldn’t be aware of us dropping the away team anyway but better to have an escape for them if they need it” Magnus said

XO

“That is a concern,” Marius paused. “Any evidence of a transporter system on the Lessco?” Marius questioned.

“We can go a few minutes and see what they do. If they don’t follow we can always double back.” He nodded to the Magnus. “Go ahead.”

Marius

A check on the sensors show that there was no system that would resemble a transporter system. They had a considerable number of escape pods, though.

GM

After receiving the report on the Transporter systems or lack thereof Magnus turned to the Captain “No transporters mean that we don’t have to worry bout our people being taken” He turned to the Conn “Set intercept course for the incoming Alien reinforcements, make sure they comprehend wich course we’re taking and that we’re starting up our Warp drive then keep us slightly ahead of them if we can” He turned back to Marius “We can see how fast they are when pressed” He said with a mischievous smile.

XO

<After helm sets the course and speed>

The Genesis started at Warp 1. The Lesscoo ships took about a minute to realise the course the Genesis was taking. The Lesscoo ship started at Warp 1.5 and was catching up. At Warp 2, the Lesscoo ships followed at Warp 2 as well. When the Genesis moved to warp 3, the Lesscoo ship was only able to move up to 2.2.

GM

“Don’t get too far ahead. I don’t want them to lose hope. Nor do I want to reveal what we have under the hood.” Marius shook his head. You’d think a race that is completely out classed by an alien ship would be a little more cautious and less aggressive. If they were another race, virtually any other race, they would have vaporized the Lessco ship and done whatever they wanted.

“Maybe the other ships would be a little more friendly.”

Marius

Magnus stood, hands behind his back. He nodded at the Captains words, he’d had the same idea, make them see that they were faster but not by how much. No sense in scaring them much… yet “It’s going to be interesting at least. It’s not often that I’ve thought of new Alien ships as fragile. Then of course I don’t recall last when they immediately opened fire without understanding what they were doing.”

XO

Helm matched the speed at warp 2.2. The ships then hailed.

=/\=Hostile ship, you will be engaged for not leaving and instead moving further into our territory.=/\=

The two ships ahead of them and the two ships behind them moved to come to contact. The two ships ahead would take 3 minutes before contact. Sensors also showed that there were four more ships leaving the Lesscoo system.

GM

^=You fired on us during diplomatic discussions.=^= Marius said flatly. =^=The Federation race Maltore’s would demand reparations. I request you send to us a person who will negotiate in good faith as opposed to firing on us for asking a question. If you can not,” Marius stopped himself. =^=You will respond to our demands now as opposed to making more.=^=

Marius
