Marius looked over to Magnus… “What do you think about Warping out and meeting their reinforcements away from the planet? The ships here would have to follow, to support their buddies. And we would find out what they are going to do earlier away from the planet… then if we want to pull our away team back we out run them back?” Marius considered, of course that would leave the landing party on their own… but what could go wrong....

“Opinions” He opened the idea to questions from the bridge.

Marius

Tom fed navigation data to the helm to precisely align with the sensor ghost before dropping the ruse.

  • Tom, IntSec

?

“It could work, in case they don’t follow we can drop the Fighter we have and leave it to keep them occupied, they shouldn’t be aware of us dropping the away team anyway but better to have an escape for them if they need it” Magnus said

XO

“That is a concern,” Marius paused. “Any evidence of a transporter system on the Lessco?” Marius questioned.

“We can go a few minutes and see what they do. If they don’t follow we can always double back.” He nodded to the Magnus. “Go ahead.”

Marius

A check on the sensors show that there was no system that would resemble a transporter system. They had a considerable number of escape pods, though.

GM

After receiving the report on the Transporter systems or lack thereof Magnus turned to the Captain “No transporters mean that we don’t have to worry bout our people being taken” He turned to the Conn “Set intercept course for the incoming Alien reinforcements, make sure they comprehend wich course we’re taking and that we’re starting up our Warp drive then keep us slightly ahead of them if we can” He turned back to Marius “We can see how fast they are when pressed” He said with a mischievous smile.

XO

<After helm sets the course and speed>

The Genesis started at Warp 1. The Lesscoo ships took about a minute to realise the course the Genesis was taking. The Lesscoo ship started at Warp 1.5 and was catching up. At Warp 2, the Lesscoo ships followed at Warp 2 as well. When the Genesis moved to warp 3, the Lesscoo ship was only able to move up to 2.2.

GM

“Don’t get too far ahead. I don’t want them to lose hope. Nor do I want to reveal what we have under the hood.” Marius shook his head. You’d think a race that is completely out classed by an alien ship would be a little more cautious and less aggressive. If they were another race, virtually any other race, they would have vaporized the Lessco ship and done whatever they wanted.

“Maybe the other ships would be a little more friendly.”

Marius

Magnus stood, hands behind his back. He nodded at the Captains words, he’d had the same idea, make them see that they were faster but not by how much. No sense in scaring them much… yet “It’s going to be interesting at least. It’s not often that I’ve thought of new Alien ships as fragile. Then of course I don’t recall last when they immediately opened fire without understanding what they were doing.”

XO

Helm matched the speed at warp 2.2. The ships then hailed.

=/\=Hostile ship, you will be engaged for not leaving and instead moving further into our territory.=/\=

The two ships ahead of them and the two ships behind them moved to come to contact. The two ships ahead would take 3 minutes before contact. Sensors also showed that there were four more ships leaving the Lesscoo system.

GM

^=You fired on us during diplomatic discussions.=^= Marius said flatly. =^=The Federation race Maltore’s would demand reparations. I request you send to us a person who will negotiate in good faith as opposed to firing on us for asking a question. If you can not,” Marius stopped himself. =^=You will respond to our demands now as opposed to making more.=^=

Marius

=/\=You were warned to leave our territory. We did not want any dealings with you. You were within our territory and it is within our rights to defend what is our own. It is you who have violated the sovereignty of the Lesscoo; and you dare to claim that we were at fault? You should be grateful that the Lesscoo has not pressed for reparation from your federation for invading our territory! You have our final warning … Leave now!=/\=

Magnus returned to his seat, if these aliens did not start a dialogue soon there would be little more they could do than simply disabling their ships and forcing a conversation. It would end that way either way but avoiding embarrassing these Lesscoo further would be best.

XO

A message came to Magnus in his chair from Engineering. =^= Commander. It doesn’t appear they are talking. Why don’t we just run around their ship, warp to their homeworld and see who answers? =^=
Dagen, CE

Magnus tapped his chaircom and spoke =^=You ever try to herd Geese Commander?” He asked with wry amusement “These geese can’t do much to us but we have a planet where they can do something and a gaggle on the way. When we have all of them nipping at us we can run to the nest=^= Ok so maybe he ran that analogy into the ground but the point still stood =^=But you’re not wrong, if they don’t start conversing civilly we’ll be forced to deal with them then head to their home system and have a very different conversation.=^=

“Not the animal I’m used to hearing when that technique is used.” Marius used to play a game where you pulled multiple creatures then ran them in circles until they got closer and closer to each other and then they could be hit by a single area of effect weapon - Kiting or something like that.

Tom felt Marius was handling the situation more diplomatically than he, but then Tom wasn’t a diplomat.

  • Tom, IntSec

From the sensors, the other two ships would reach in 90 seconds. The ETA of the four ships was 42 minutes.

GM

=^=The Federation requires you to prove your boundaries. We were in the midst of that clarification when you acted. We could easily say that this is our territory… If you would like.. I can make that claim right now.=^=

Marius shook his head. =^=Nor do I think you know what defend and aggressive means. I wish to speak to your superior.=^= Marius was going to Karen his way to the top. =^=I’m sure you can tell by now, we could find whoever that is by ourselves. So it would be better if you just connect us.=^=

=^=And I suggest you stop shooting at us, or you well see the actual definition of defense against aggression.=^=

Marius

Magnus nodded at that, the Captain didn’t have much experience as a diplomat but he took to it well and he was unusually patient. It would seem he really didn’t like bullies at all.

XO

=^= Yes, sir. Remember their inertial dampers are very primitive and they can’t make quick turns or acceleration. In short we can literally run circles around these … nipping gaggles. =^=
- Dagen

Ensign Kesh had been just passively observing while continuing to ensure ship systems were balanced to meet current demands. But then Dagen makes that comment and she just has to pivot her head up and stare at a crook in the ceiling as if his face were there to study.

Nipping gaggles?

All her years in Starfleet and suddenly she’s having to figure out human dialect again.

-> Kesh, Engineering

Magnus snorted at the Chief Engineers comment =^=Copy that Commander, be ready incase we decide to get nipped. Magnus out=^=

XO

Dagen sent a note up to Kesh. =^= Kesh, keep an eye on their power outputs. They may seem to be what they are - a developing people just new to space but that doesn’t mean they don’t have any surprises. I’m not expecting any death rays but the universe has many possibilities and we’ve not thought of them all yet. =^=
Dagen

A part of Kesh’s thoughts begs to do some kind of Vulcan thing where she flatly points out that this is about the tenth or twentyth time she has taken part in first contact with a less-developed civilization, but that would not be productive right now. Instead, with a deep inhale, she aligns with the ‘I’m just an ensign after all’ direction of approach she has been trying (and probably failing) to do since she started her shift.

=^= Aye, sir =^=

The deadpan of her felid voice is particularly flat for that one, but hopefully it just comes across that she’s trying to focus on doing just that.

-> Kesh, Engineering

It took a whole for the Lesscoo to answer, =/\=We do not need to prove anything to you. You act as if you are the law in the universe. This is your last warning. Leave or else we will hold back our fire.=/\=

=^=If you can not prove something then it by definition isn’t a fact. So you now have actually stated that you are a bully whose rights come from the end of the barrel of a gun. We happen instead to be peaceful explorers… something we have proven despite being fired on and having superior weaponry.=^=

Marius deactivated the main screen.

As the reply came in, the other Lesscoo ships arrived. There were now four ships in the same space as the Genesis. There were four ships going to arrive in 43 minutes.

GM

Magnus turned to the Captain “I recommend either forcing a confrontation here, disabling their ships and towing them to their homeworld or doing as Chief Thor recommended and simply outrunning them to their homeworld and speak with whoever is in charge. This posturing of theirs gets us nowhere.” He said quietly

XO

Marius nodded. They weren’t getting better odds as time wore on and even an elephant could be taken down by enough wolves. “Helm bring us about, One quarter impulse. Forwards shield at full, phasers at 20% target weapons, shields and engines only…”

He paused. “Zero Casualties.” He looked about the bridge. “Zero.”

He reactivated the main screen…

=^=Until you can prove your rightful possession of this area of space. I claim it for the Federation and request third party arbitration of our conflict. What are you going to do about it..=^=

Marius

Magnus tapped the Com on his chair =^=Magnus to Thor, get your analysis of the enemy vessels to our tactical station, I want the best way to disable their vessels without lasting harm, no casualties acceptable=^= He stood up and moved a few steps back so he had a view of the Tactical console. He nodded to the Tactical NE.

XO

=^= Sending =^= Thor replied, then, to Kesh, he messaged =^= Your calculations show a much less powered strike to their ships than initially considered. Work with Tactical in that. You’re the one up there and have the best view. =^=

=/\=Enough of your stalling! Our ships’ presence is proof enough!=/\=

Then the four ships powered up their weapons as they began to move around the Genesis.

The first burst of fire came forth as torpedoes. They were nuclear in nature.

GM

Magnus snorted “Masters of diplomacy them” He clasped his hands together “Target and disable weapons, let’s also see if we can take down those torpedoes before they touch us” He looked to the Captain, this was their first Combat mission together and he was curious as to his style in Ship to ship combat.

XO

Marius nodded his assent. “Tactical dedicate one battery of phasers for counter-missile uses.”

“Full reverse, back off....” Marius was going to go for range where the Genesis superior weapons would have all the advantages. “Nukes. Filthy weapons.” He shook his head. Dirty weapons but still fairly dangerous.

“Take surgical shots from where they can’t touch us.”

Marius

Dagen sent up notes to both Kesh and Tactical =^=- Their inertial systems are weak. Start at a 5% strength on phasers. Kesh, plot payload on the torpedoes and work optimal distance to neutralize them. =^=

Dagen, CE

OOC: Is any one at tactical to fire the phasers?

IC: As the Genesis reversed, the missiles altered course. These missiles were tracking their target …

GM

Oh, Marius looked at the screen. There was a good chance the Genesis was just flat faster than the missiles… “Phansers?” He pointed at the missiles on the screen.

Marius

NE Cannons at the Tactical console did as ordered. One phaser bank targetting the incoming Nuclear missiles and two other forward banks aimed at the nearest ships set at 5% power as directed by engineering. He targeted the weapons systems. “Opening fire”

NE Cannons

Kesh could say for certain that calculating the explosive yield of missiles currently incoming to the ship she is currently occupying and determining the safest possible means of detonating them was not on her list of things she enjoyed doing nor hoped to do today.

But, circumstances.

“Aye, sir.” Again she replied to Dagan quite flatly, but her focus was on ensuring the frequency of the phasers being fired by Tactical was going to have the best-possible outcome at the moment.

-> Kesh, Engineering

=^= You focus on the battle items. I’ll keep my eye on ship’s power. =^= he replied up. =^= You’re doing the work of engineer and scientist. You’re doing well. =^=
Dagen

The phasers caught the missiles. The Genesis shook and the radiation from the missiles was considerable. The shields of the Genesis held back the radiation.

The other phasers easily took out the engineering on two of the ships. However, the ships were in danger of being irradiated because engineering was keeping an energy barrier to repel the radiation. The other two ships fired another volley of missiles …

GM

OOC: Hi Kenson, clarification question .. is the energy barrier interior on the ships to keep the radiation away from the rest of the ships that originated in engineering? And if so, was that caused by the hit? Or, is the radiation the same as that plaguing the Genny from the detonations and those ships being in the area and the energy barrier was shielding that the ships were powering from engineering that went down? .. sorry, that’s a very before coffee question here .. Gene
